Review: While Pheek may have been in operation for as long as anyone can remember within minimal house and techno, Cleymoore has been most productive more recently thanks to his Pluie/Noir label. Following on from last year's Seikou single on Xquisite, here Cleymoore and Pheek link up to deliver some densely packed, production rich jams that keep the spirit of mid-00s clicks and cuts alive. The beats themselves may be slender slices that carry the energy of the tracks, but it's all in the infinitesimal details in between that the true magic of this music comes alive.

CLOC 01 (12")
Cat: CLOC 01. Rel: 06 Aug 18
  1. El Patchanga (10:06)
  2. El Capitano (14:57)
Review: Mysterious minimal house from Cloc, who inaugurates their eponymous imprint here. The sunny yet subtle bounce of A side cut "El Patchanga" rolls deep with a faint Latin flair that you could imagine being played DJs on the Romanian house scene. On the flip, "El Capitano" takes things into extra reduced territory, which would probably work better at a chill-out party as opposed to the after party - with its downtempo vibe and drifting balearic flair throughout.

Control EP (blue vinyl 12")
Cat: PLZ 010. Rel: 19 Nov 13
  1. Track 1
  2. Track 2
  3. Track 3
  4. Track 4
Review: The ever-impressive Pleasure Zone imprint welcome new producer Cntrl into their midst with a sassy twist on minimal techno as the label have been peddling now for the past year or so. "Track 1" on this EP rolls with the breakbeat formation that has made Pleasure Zone a distinctive label in the past, keeping the flow linear but the bass drops subby and surefooted, creating a perfect trip-out of a track. "Track 2" slips into a more wonky groove with some found sounds peppering a loping house beat while rubbery synth swells float around the mix. On the flip both "Track 3" and "Track 4" get into more stripped down territory with sparse rhythms and subtle sound design for the more minimally minded out there.

Cat: AE 06. Rel: 17 Jul 17
  1. Aerials
  2. Phased Out
  3. Exiles
  4. Dialogic
  5. Goosebumps
Review: Thule's dark doppelganger AE Recordings was revived last year with the excellent Freyja EP by NonniMal, and now the saga continues with this devastatingly on-point release from Cold. Much like the vibe on Thule, the music on Thule continues to channel the mood of the icy tundra into refined, modern club tracks, but there's definitely a more sinister intent at work in these tracks from Cold. "Aerials" is a nightmarish chugger loaded with eerie sonics, while "Phased Out" lays down some fine dubby processing over a bed of chilly chord pulses. "Exiles" is a standout track thanks to its crafty groove, coming on a little more housey than its counterparts but still heavier than the average Thule jam.

  4. When 4 Ravers Come Crashing (7:42)
  5. Pipe Pope Grape (4:24)
Review: Sleepers has been a little vague about the identity of the producer behind the Cool & Frank project, though it appears to be a newcomer from New York. Interestingly, the music on Golden Wall sounds vintage, as if it was recorded in the mid 1990s as a response to intelligent techno and "braindance" style releases. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the Ceephax Acid Crew style madness of "When 4 Ravers Come Crashing" and spacey, IDM-acid of "Golden Wall", to the intergalactic electro shuffle of "Bergone" and Polygon Window-era Richard D James loveliness of "Pipe Pope Grape". As debut 12" singles go, it's pretty darn good.

  1. Forever Gone (11:34)
  2. Big Sky (9:20)
  3. Epathia (8:31)
Review: Cornucopia aka Israeli prog house hero Guy J releases his sophomore effort on Toronto based label microCastle. The Forever Gone EP features three lush cuts which delve into more deeper, emotive and esoteric territory than the Antwerp based trailblazer is known for - with his previous releases on mega imprints like Bedrock and of course his own Lost & Found. From the deeply atmospheric and trance-inducing tribal rhythms of the title track, to the evocative acid trip of "Big Sky" or the highlight "Epathia" which will hypnotise you into submission with its enthralling melodies, blissed-out layers of pads with full tension and suspense - this one is geared for some proper divine moments of truth on the dancefloor.

Cat: ENDZ 018. Rel: 21 Nov 17
  1. Effected (10:09)
  2. Sunset Soul (10:35)
Review: Given his impressive track record and rising star status, it was probably only a matter of time before Cosmin Nastasa AKA Cosmjn popped up on East Enderz. This time round, the Romanian producer seems to be in a particularly positive mood. Certainly, A-side "Effected" - a jaunty affair built around a bold, attention-grabbing bassline, punchy drums and drowsy, sun-kissed synthesizer chords - is amongst the cheeriest tracks he's released to date. On the flip, "Sunset Soul" is a little closer to his trademark tech-house fare, with spacey pads and fizzing electronics wrapping themselves around a pleasingly rubbery groove.

Family Jubilee II: Part 2 Of 3 (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: MEANDER 0202. Rel: 26 Jul 17
  1. Cristi Cons - "Meandering" (7:51)
  2. Franky Greiner - "Klaus Grony" (11:57)
Review: Dewalta's Meander imprint has been particularly impressive in recent times, with hot releases from the best of the best in minimal techno. Celebrating a decade in the business, the label presents the second edition of Family Jubilee which features Romanian rising star (and recent collaborator) Cristi Cons. Where he and Dewalta served up one of last year's standout releases with their Space Between EP, Cons flies solo here and serves up some of his typically reductionist mini-funk on "Meandering" a truly hypnotic groove if we've ever heard one. On the flip is Berlin based newcomer Franky Greiner who has appeared previously on Perlon, Cadenza and Cityfox. His contribution entitled "Klaus Grony" is a long and tripped out journey that's perfect for bending minds at the Sunday afterhours.

  3. Crossmods - "Jive" (5:25)
  4. Edmundy - "Aurora Borealis" (9:00)
  5. J Wax - "Digits" (6:32)
Review: More from Ben Rothes and Schmitt's Dundee-based Hilltown Disco imprint, which has so far failed to disappoint since launching in early 2017. The most dominant artist on this third label outing is extended family member Crossmods. The producer makes a big impression on the A-side, serving up two bustling electro workouts (of which acid-fired opener "Visualised" is our pick) and a pleasingly spacey 4/4 number that sits somewhere between rolling deep house, Vangelis and pitched-down Detroit techno. You'll find more far-sighted space exploration on the flip, where Edmundy's surging rocket ship of a cut, "Aurorea Borealis" is joined by Hilltown Disco regular J Wax's EBM-esque late night throb-job "Digits".
