Celestial Consequence (heavyweight vinyl 12" + sticker)
Cat: SL 016. Rel: 10 Jul 18
  1. Consequence (6:53)
  2. The Wheel (6:07)
  3. This Is The Universe (7:04)
  4. Celestial (6:42)
Review: Like many of Saverio Celestri's releases, this return to regular home Slow Life is a collaborative affair, with production duties shared by debutant Late Consequence (in reality an experienced Italian producer operating under a new alias). The duo kicks things off with the spacey bounce of "Consequence", where computer beeps and bleeps rise above heavy analogue bass, locked-in techno drums and flotation tank chords, before offering a subtle nod towards early UK bleep techno on sub-bass heavy workout "The Wheel". Turn to the flip for some deeper, purist tech-house vibes (the deep house influenced warmth of "This Is The Universe") and the sparkling, head-in-the-clouds tech-funk of "Celestial".

Deyo (12")
Cat: ACRE 071. Rel: 24 Oct 17
  1. Deyo (7:15)
  2. Kasoa (6:18)
Review: Founder and leader of the Banana Hill parties out of Sheffield, Cervo has started churning out some seriously bad-mannered house music as of late. Interestingly, his devious blends of 4/4 dance recall the same sort of experimentation and freedom as Toddla T's tracks, the main star to have come out of Steel City. The man debuts on London's Black Acre with these two spicy rave bangers, kicking off with the smooth and liquid-like "Deyo", before turning everything into a bumpy stomp on the more acid-laden "Kasoa". The main thing about these two tunes is the funk running deep in its veins - boom!

  4. Seuil - "974 Tool" (6:35)
Review: 'Grooving fragments of imagination, automatically written on wax' Automatic writing is a record label founded in Paris in 2016 by Darween, Jacan and Nico Dee. Their first various artists EP gathers the core members that contributed to the imprint's discography so far. On the A side we have got Charonne with the old school bump and shuffle of "Saule Moqueur" followed by Murphie Cooper delivering some reductionist mini-funk on the infectious "Speak Twins". On the flip is none other than hometown hero Seuil of Eklo Records, who delivers some absolutely neon-lit electro-funk on "974 Tool".

Cong Burn 03 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CB 03. Rel: 16 Jul 18
  1. Chekov - "Spring" (5:34)
  2. Duckett - "Lost In Israel" (5:06)
  3. Lack - "Track 3" (8:21)
  4. Haddon - "Anabiosis" (3:00)
Review: Cong Burn continues to exercise one of the most promising instincts for future-minded music on this, their third release. It's surprising they haven't done more previously, considering the maturity of their curation, but either way the quality remains at an all time high here, leading in with some light and liquefied 4/4 sonics from Chekov before pirouetting into one of Duckett's illustrious abstractions around the techno blueprint. Label regular Lack is back on side B with the stern and punchy "Track 3," and then Haddon finishes the record off with "Anabiosis," a densely textured, slow creeping trip of a track.

Lobster Club (limited gatefold double 12")

  1. Wald 1975
  2. A New Beat
  3. Warhol
  4. Orchestra Rehearsal
  5. Fiction
  6. Cauldron
Review: Known most for his TC Studio work alongside Matei Tulbure, Traian Chereches has latterly taken to working in a solo capacity and demonstrated an equal degree of aplomb for unique rhythms and joyful sensations. Fans of the Romanian's work will delight in this double pack on his and Tulbure's prospering TC Studio label with the six tracks on Lobster Club really showing Chereches' full production range. Proceedings begin on an abstract note with "Wald 1975" memorable for some bold vocal sampling, though tracks such as the tumbling "A New Beat" and "Orchestra Rehearsal" will provide more than enough dancefloor satisfaction.

  2. Blondie Brownie Beat (7:18)
  3. Each One Teach One (7:32)
Review: Lorenzo Chiabotti resurfaces on FUSE's vinyl-only INFUSE offshoot with what may well be his most high profile release to date. The former Moscow Records and Monologue Music man starts in confident fashion on side A, unfurling the quietly melodious, rolling tech-house-funk of "Esc One", before diving deep into murkier waters via the creepy electronics, foreboding chords, heavy UKG bass and skipping beats of "Blondie Brownie Beat". It's on the flipside, though, where you'll find the strongest dancefloor moment: the buzzing bass, punchy tech-house beats and metallic electronics of title track "Each One Teach One".

Cat: SUOL 068. Rel: 20 Dec 16
  1. Keep It Real Son (7:29)
  2. Wait A Minute (6:48)
  3. I Need Your Love (6:44)
  4. Strings For Fools (7:23)
Review: Chopstick & Johnjon are Chi-Thien Nguyen and John Muder; head honchos of Suol Music based out of Berlin. Versions 2 follows up the first volume which was released back in 2012 and on this one we've got some really great grooves. Take for instance the sunny, bouncy and slightly retro flavoured deep house of "Keep It Real Son" which will appeal to fans of Tuff City Kids or Kim Brown. Also there's the cowbell driven nu-disco boogie of "I Need Your Love" which is absolutely infectious and "String For Fools"; definitely the most serious track on here and will create some sure moments of dancefloor drama with those strings reminiscent of hits like "Full Clip" and, well.. "Strings For Life" of course!

  3. If You Want To (Edmondson version) (7:36)
Review: Cape Town's CTS dive straight into a new year with the show-stopping "If You Want To". Rolling on an unhurried break with rich emotional textures, it pulls you into their world with a molten persistence that never sits still. Remix-wise Gacha Bakradze adds a little Balearic charm with maintaining the spirit of the original's liquid, perpetual groove development while Edmondson brings us back to the bruk with a broken beat, slightly UKG vibe. There's no ifs about it, you will want to.

  1. Laurent Ci - "Welcome All" (7:45)
  2. Sy - "Time" (7:03)
  3. Yusuke Yamamoto - "Construction Site" (5:54)
  4. Mjog - "Camelia" (9:04)
Review: For Slovenian label HouseOnWax's third release, they've rounded up some top names. Laurent Ci hails from San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy and follows up some great releases on the likes of Ewax, Blind Vision, Moral Fiber, and Nordik with his offering "Welcome All" which is a groovy acid house dancefloor bomb. The Ewax boss from Berlin SY provided a real highlight too, on the hypnotic groove "Time" which will appeal to fans of iO (Mulen) or S.A.M. On the flip, Japan's Yusuke Yamamoto gets deep and dusty on "Construction Site" and Frenchman Maxime Garnier aka Mjog has the minimal side of things covered on the entrancing afterhours groove of "Camelia" channeling those sublime Romanian style vibes. The label says it is inspired by early white label house music releases. Vinyl only, limited copies, no digital promotion. The label has previously served up releases by Italians Re.Named, Stockholm's Niklas Andersson and Miami's Avstin Frank.

Spok (140 gram 12")
Cat: UNTLDPRO 006 . Rel: 20 Mar 17
  1. Spok (original mix)
  2. Spok (Nektar Agu remix)
Review: Leading minimal label The Untold Stories are at it again, and after their star turn from STL recently they've now invited down another legend in the shape of Franco Cinelli. The original is classic Cinelli, pivoting around crisp, clean percussive lines and the bare essential atmospherics. Nektar Agu steps up for a remix that continues the minimalist theme, but adds some looming bass tones into the mix that pushes the track into a dubbier headspace. It's another slab of refined, stripped down tackle for the reductionist dancefloor, as you would expect from The Untold Stories.

  1. Liquid Funk (13:33)
  2. Jack Bass (7:08)
  3. D-Down (6:44)
Review: Since making his debut way back in 2002, Franco Cinelli has giddily hopped between labels, releasing well-regarded material on such imprints as Ilian Tape, Esperanza, Bass Culture, Raum and, most recently, Untold Stories. This first outing on Savor is notable for A-side "Liquid Funk", a 13-minute-plus workout that fixes subtle but spacey electronics to a killer, bassline-driven tech-house groove. There are subtle changes throughout, but for the most part it's a hugely hypnotic, locked-in experience. Elsewhere, the Argentine producer wanders closer to dreamy deep house territory on "Jack Bass", and joins the dots between New Jersey organs and stripped-back tech-house-funk on the decidedly wonky "D-Down".

Strei2 (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: CPLT 002. Rel: 27 Mar 17
  1. Strei2 (10:07)
  2. Cel Putin (8:39)
Review: Since 2015, Bucharest-based producer Andrei Ciubuc's been releasing one EP per year and, while we'd like to hear more from him, they've all been similarly dope. This is no surprise, as the artist hails from what is now surely the headquarters of contemporary tech-house, but it's important to point out that he's definitely at the top of that food chain. "Strei2" comes through on the young and ambitious Cuplet label, and bursts through our charts with a powerful, wonderfully minimalistic groove that has a certain industrial flair about it, buzzing and twisting head-first into a whirlpool off strangely jazzy sonics and complex percussion patterns - a real floor burner. "Cel Putin", on the flip, oozes a magnetic, dub-filtered tone from all angles, and its bubbling drums are the perfect solution to any oversized sound system wishing to be taken to overdrive. Pressed up on heavyweight vinyl, too.
