  1. Love Letters From Sicily (9:35)
  2. Hope (John Digweed & Nick Muir remix) (7:38)
Review: Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburger Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by the legendary John Digweed takes the track into much more adrenalised and entrancing territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

  1. Going Places (7:36)
  2. Fly (6:52)
  3. Going Places (Franco Cinelli remix) (7:39)
Review: MFDP is a project by Frankfurt scene stalwarts Markus Fix and Dorian Paic. They've released a handful of EPs thus far on the likes of La Pena and FA>lE - and this new one is on the always impressive Savor Music out of Argentina. They've even got homeboy Franco Cinelli on the remix. The Going Places EP features the spaced-out and bleepy minimal funk of the title track, plus the dubby liquid tech-house of "Fly" which is perfect for rocking the afterhours. On the flip, the aforementioned Cinelli takes A1 into even trippier and reductionist territory and works the original elements really well - creating a really hypnotic atmosphere.

  1. Liues Midav - "Retroviseur"
  2. Pap Inc - "Ralf Beckett"
Review: If you don't recognise either of the Pap Inc or Liues Midav names that line this latest release from the Eklo label don't worry. It turns out Eklo founder Seuil is responsible for both tracks here, which according to the label are the "fruits of a diverse collaboration" with compatriot and rising producer Vadim Svoboda. Listen carefully to both "Retroviseur" and "Ralf Beckett" and that much becomes apparent anyway, with the former notable for the jittery funk that keeps trying to escape the stripped back groove that keeps matters on a forward trajectory. Those wanting something with a bit more swing will love "Ralf Beckett" which pays subtle homage to the filter house that French producers excelled at.

Dark Fader EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: TLR 006. Rel: 16 Apr 18
  1. Corridors (12:13)
  2. Mutual Contemplation (11:06)
Review: Mihigh hails from the ever-productive Romanian minimal scene, having first appeared alongside Arapu back in 2013 before releasing a few solo EPs that cemented his presence amongst the big hitters from Eastern Europe. Now appearing on Trapped Ldn, he kicks off his Dark Fader EP with the appropriately murky tones of "Corridors". It's a brooding piece shaped out by clanging delay and reverb tones that echo into infinity, creating a perfectly trippy and evocative atmosphere. "Mutual Contemplation" is a quirkier affair that gets all kind of lopsided, pitch bending antics going on, with a sturdy beat carrying the experimental tones in the direction of the dancefloor.

Review: Surely one of the finest operators in the UK underground, Miles Atmospheric released his last album under his own name Miles Sagnia back in 2014, and now he finally returns to the long player format to unfurl his vision of deep, driving techno. This time he's appearing on Finale Sessions, and it's the perfect home for his thoughtfully sculpted cuts. There are more outwardly mellow moments such as "Mensura," and the utterly gorgeous "Peace," but there is also plenty of space afforded to the sharper end of his creative transmissions. "Elysium" is a dense, rippling throwdown that touches on many different aspects of contemporary house and techno, while "Rise" offers up a refreshing variation on the acid house template. Once again, Miles Atmospheric demonstrates why he's such a vital, if sometimes overlooked, force in the UK underground.

Cat: CMD 004. Rel: 21 Nov 16
  1. Heal (8:29)
  2. Plight (8:27)
Review: From his appearances on Aesthetic Audio and Ornate through to his own Atmospheric Existence label, Miles Sagnia continues to be one of the best kept secrets of British deep techno, and that's no more apparent than on this stunning release for Common Dreams. There's a looped up insistence to "Heal", but it's offset by emotive movement in the synth lines and an overall spiritual quality that escapes much cyclical techno. "Plight" takes a slightly slower path, amping up the early UK electronica tones for an immersive experience shaped out by interlocking rhythms and snaking melodies. It's a truly classy statement that stays true to techno while saying something original.

  4. 444 Marjorie (6:52)
Review: UK tech house heroine Miss Jools is still going. Since relocating to Berlin like many others she has since been closely affiliated with the Sol Asylum imprint run by good friend Julie Marghilano. It has proven to be a reliable imprint, backed up by some solid releases by the likes of OdD, Anton Zap and Dutch collective Dilated Pupils. It's over to Jools again for her second appearance for the label. Starting off with the dusty and bleepy reductionist groove of "Stepping Inside" it then gets a tougher and more swinging: remix courtesy of Berlin legend and Brouqade boss Dana Ruh. On the flip "Sorry Not Sorry" is a deep, dubby and atmospheric groove with some wonky/tripped out modular synth textures which will appeal to fans of the S.A.M. or iO Mulen sound. The sublime and hypnotic "444 Marjorie" is the EPs strongest moment by far and closes out the EP in style.

  1. Porcelain (Timo Maas & James Teej Broken China dub) (9:14)
  2. Porcelain (Sebastian Mullaert Transformation mix) (12:59)
Review: Record Store Day 2017 is sure bringing some interesting surprises. Other than the fact that American pop-tronica legend Moby is getting one of his biggest mainstream hits reworked by some of the key players of the underground, the collaborations are interesting too. To make our our point: German techno legend and the man behind the legendary and 'wompy' "Dooms Night" remix (among other things) Timo Maas teams up with My Favorite Robot alumnus James Teej on a remix of "Porcelain". Keeping up with contemporary trends, they swap 'womp' for some 'wonk' that would make even the Life & Death crew stand up and notice on this brooding journey track, which is optimised for proper dancefloor drama. The well known piano solo and symphony section make their dramatic entrance into the track at just the right time. On the flip Swedish hypnotic techno hero Sebastian Mullaert appears, would you believe: his rendition is equally as worthy an effort which makes for a great revision of this classic but not what you'd usually expect from him either.

  3. Porcelain (Julian Jeweil remix) (6:30)
  4. Natural Blues (Reinier Zonneveld Homage remix) (7:22)
Review: Spanish imprint Suara are a force to reckoned with at the moment and continue to bring the heat with his fine collection of remixes by US electronica icon Moby. Brazilian Victor Ruiz kicks off proceedings with his rendition of "Go" and he sure had his work cut our for him, trying his deft hand at such a defining rave classic: it's pretty good and gives a fresh perspective while staying true to the original. Also on the A side we've got French hero Oxia who stays on the same vibe as the original with his deep and emotive rendition of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad". On the flip, the m_nus affiliated Julian Juweil delivers an absolutely stomping peak time weapon with his version of "Porcelain" which blows the bloody doors off as always. Reinier Zonneveld's homage to "Natural Blues" goes for some sunny uplifting deep house: Kater Blau style.

  1. Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (Enrico Sangiuliano remix) (7:17)
  2. Go (Manic Brothers remix) (9:09)
Review: Moby's back catalogue has been reworked rather a lot lately, with Drumcode following the lead of 2DIY4 in releasing a string of contemporary remixes of the Vegan beat-smith's classic productions. This 12" - the second of four the Swedish imprint is releasing - begins with a storming version of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" by Enrico Sanguilano. It makes good use of the original's famous vocal sample, working it into a banging techno track that looks to the riff-heavy world of trance for inspiration. On the flip, the Manic Brothers offer their interpretation of "Go", combining the original's evocative chords and vocal samples with heavy new techno beats.

The Return (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ENLIGHTENMENT 001. Rel: 09 Jul 18
  1. Baku
  2. Return
Review: Moca skirted around the house music underground back at the turn of the century, never quite finding fame but over the years amassing the cult status that comes with highly sought-after records. Now this mysterious producer makes their return with a fresh two-tracker that builds on the legacy of the old records while offering something new. The A side is given over to "Baku," a lean, tracky jam that comes to life with some mellow chords pitched directly at the warm up. On the B side "Return" keeps the same principles of stripped-back beats at the heart of the matter, but makes great use of an arpeggiating synth to sprinkle some colour across the track.
