  1. Maria (5:56)
  2. Maria (Acid Pauli & Nico Stojan remix) (7:44)
  3. Nyla (9:10)
Review: From Berlin with love: Ouie is the label from local heroes Martin Gretschmann aka Acid Pauli/Console and Nico Stojan. Up next on the label are Kerala Dust: a London based trio who count influences as disparate as Tom Waits, Four Tet and DJ Koze, but somehow join the dots. Mixing jazz, indie and club sounds, here is the perfect introduction to their vibe. The hazy and somewhat esoteric "Maria" features some hypnotic male and female vocal duets over its lo-slung groove. Label head honchos Pauli & Stojan provide a deep and trippy remix up next - that's perfect to watch a Berlin sunrise on the River Spree. Finally on the flip is the second original offering "Nyla" which is the winner on here: a straight-up, slinky tech house groove that's infectious as hell and perfect to lead in to the peak time.

  1. Sexspurt (Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer remix) (12:12)
  2. Techno Disco (KiNK remix) (8:16)
  3. Come On Kerrier (Head High remix) (5:02)
Review: Having coaxed a new Kerrier District album out of Luke Vibert last year, Bristol's ever busy Hypercolour return to the project with a 12" sporting some truly high profile remixers. Ricardo Villalobos seems in the midst of a new wave of popularity right now, so it's a canny move for Hypercolour to enlist the Chilean for a trademark extended remix of "Sexspurt" alongside trusted companion and long-term collaborator Max Loderbauer. 12 minutes long, there is an equal emphasis on groove, micro detail and psychedelic expression demonstrated by the pair. Complementing this, the B side sports remixes from KiNK and Shed's Head High with the latter's take on "Come On Kerrier" quite sublime fun. What a way to toast your 50th release!

  3. Swept (5:23)
  4. Swept (Tale Of Us remix) (7:08)
Review: Kiasmos are a Reykjavik based duo comprised of BAFTA awarded composer Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen from the band Bloodgroup. The sounds of classical music and electro-pop collide fantastically on this release. First track "Drawn" is a sublime and emotional serving of trip-hop with Arnald's signature piano style floating on top of Rasmussen's immaculately programmed beats. And then that lush string section comes drifting in, its magnificent! "Gaunt" features some mutant pan pipes accompanied by a bleepy melody and sub-bass pulsations, but once again balanced out by Arnalds' lush piano and strings arrangements. On the flip "Swept" is a dreamy and melancholic deep house cut that could have come out on Kompakt, it's that good. There's even a remix of it by men of the moment Tale Of Us, who revise the track into one of their signature dark and adrenalised journey tracks, it's well done!

  1. Dampia (6:08)
  2. Scheme & Plot (5:29)
  3. Da Gatekeeper (6:08)
  4. Novoline (6:08)
Review: KMR are a house trio split between Frankfurt and Berlin, two powerhouses of dance music each with their own sounds and artistic tendencies. This is the group's first outing, a fully-fledged debut in all senses of the term, and it comes through the relatively established Sensual Records, home to peeps like Vid Vai and, of course, the trio themselves under their respective names of Dario Reimann, Michael Melchner and Patrick K. "Dampia" is considerably closer to Detroit electro than house, and the same can be said for the metallic, broken beats of the acidic "Scheme & Plot". "Da Gatekeeper" is the first tune to lay down a 4/4 beat structure, helped here with all sorts of deep melodies, leaving "Novoline" to provide the funkier, more jazzy moment of the four tunes. Big up, KMR!

Review: The mysterious Knowone imprint presents a collection of dusty, smoked out, dub techno journeys. This is the real deal; for those of you who aren't familiar, this label is highly recommended for fans of Basic Channel, Echospace or Meanwhile. Enough said, right? This collection comes in a limited edition, handmade wooden box with 5 x 12"s and 2 CDs. It's hard to pick a highlight from here because all the tracks on here are so damn good. But we do particularly enjoy the glacial and cavernous vibes of Track 3, the hypnotic and dubby deep house on "Track 5" while "Track 8" sounds like Jeff Mills and Stephen Hitchell going on a stoned UFO journey over the Arctic.

  1. Taggen (5:56)
  2. Bimbo (5:30)
  3. Klimax (6:55)
Review: Sweden's Johanna Knutson has fast become one of Berlin's most celebrated selectors, with regular appearances in the party mecca's top clubs such as about//blank and Berghain plus having releases on Power Plant, Kann, and Klass Wrecks. Speaking of the latter - she went on to create Zodiac 44 with Luca Lozano and UFO Station Recordings with Hans Berg: a fellow ex-Stockholmer whom she collaborates with on this fine release for Bristol based Idle Hands. These three deep, spacey and functional cuts will appeal to fans of dustier/lo-fi Berlin sounds - as made popular by the likes of Acido, SUED or Recording. From the throbbing monosynth led grind of "Teppen" to the tunnelling and hypnotic trance induction of "Bimbo" and the deep sonar transmissions of "Klimax" on the B side: these ones are undoubtedly useful when used in combination with other reduced tracks in your record bag, or great used on their own for their subtlety.

  2. Madame Henria (Swoy remix) (8:17)
  3. Green Liquid (7:24)
  4. Aromatic (7:14)
Review: The latest release on Djebali's admirable Presents series comes from Avingon-based Kokaz, a producer whose occasional dub-fuelled techno and house records are rarely less than impressive. Opener "Madame Henria" is a gently out-there tech-house wriggler, with swishing synthesizer motifs and a chunky bassline wrapped around a crunchy drum machine style groove. Moscow-based Djebali Presents artist Swoy provides the obligatory remix, turning the original into a lazily sun-kissed chunk of dreamy deep house/acid-funk fusion. Over on the flipside, "Green Liquid" is a slightly more energetic and foreboding tech-house box jam, while "Aromatic" is a sub-heavy chunk of deep dub-house warmth.

  1. Papageno
  2. Cassiopeia
Review: Kolsch gets his freak on with this latest release on for the Kompakt Extra label which represents the Danish producer's fourth Speicher in total. We are not sure what Rune Reilly Kolsch was on when he was in the studio making "Papageno" but we sure would like some, as the production is bugged out to the extreme! Detuned synths and malfunctioning electronics collide magnificently with manipulated basslines and stripped back percussion before Kolsch introduces a most pleasant detour into a more melodic plane blessed by fluttering vocals from When Saints Go Machine's Waa Industry. On the flip, Kolsch teams up with pianist Gregor Schwellenbach for the sublime "Cassiopeia" which surely ranks as one of Kompakt's most affecting B Sides of recent memory.

  1. Push (7:22)
  2. Goodbye (11:03)
Review: Danish artist Kolsch returns on Kompakt Extra following the success of last year's successful single "Grey". Alongside launching his own BBC1 residency, he continued to evolve as a DJ which has led to residencies launching in Cologne and Ibiza. On the A side is "Push" with its powerful string symphonies powered away by shimmering arpeggios, roaring synth leads and thundering snares: this one is absolutely epic. On the flip is "Goodbye", which is a delightfully moody and experimental cut with organ-like synth textures, retro-futuristic bleeps and fragmented alien voices.

Off The Reel EP (clear vinyl 12")
Cat: PTXS 011. Rel: 21 Nov 17
  1. The Reel (12:58)
  2. Wolfshut (9:02)
Review: With this being his comeback for Einzelkind and Frost's Pressure Trax Silver Series, Andy Kolwes is surely attuned to the sort of gear that's expected form this excellent little catalogue. While most deep-minded tech-house can verge on the snoozy, we've always been big fans of these grooves and, unsurprisingly, this certainly doesn't disappoint. The A-side's "The Reel" is a sublime bit of house music, deep and soulful while still managing to push a driving groove and a seductive percussion flex - a total winner! "Wolfshut", on the B-side, flickers a wild-eyed collection of percussion patterns above a much darker, ethereal abyss of gargling vocal samples and acidic low frequencies, making this another keeper and marking what is our choice EP from the tech-house charts this week! HOT!

Cat: MEANDER 0203. Rel: 26 Jul 17
  1. Konrad Black - "Snake Charmers" (7:22)
  2. Kamran Sadeghi - "Amber Alert" (6:49)
  3. De Walta - "Pin Tweaks" (11:53)
Review: Dewalta's Meander imprint has been particularly impressive in recent times, with hot releases from the creme de la creme in minimal techno. Celebrating a decade in the business, the label presents the third edition of Family Jubilee which features a reinvigorated Konrad Black. The Canadian is creating some his best music in years, as heard on the PAN-ish experimental bass of "Snake Charmers" where he's still pursuing a similar style to that of his Scorched Earth EP which appeared on the label back in 2015. New York City tech house hero (and one third of Soundwalk Collective) Kamran Sadeghi presents the slinky groove of "Amber Alert" that is full of the same hypnotic polyrhythms as heard on his Astral Body EP for label last year. De Walta himself gives us the eerie minimal futurism of "Pin Tweaks" which is a perfect closer for this fine EP.

Cat: KNS 002 . Rel: 23 Jan 17
  1. Track 1 (8:00)
  2. Track 2 (5:45)
  3. Track 3 (7:03)
Review: London-based, Italian-born duo Konstress may have first appeared with the Blind Box Series in 2015, but now they're really hitting their stride with their own self-titled label. This second installment sees the pair charging out into exciting territory on the experimental fringe of the minimal techno scene. The influence of the Boogizm label weighs heavy across all these tracks as intensely detailed sound design meets with chunky basslines and snappy, electro-informed grooves. This is not party music for the conformists out there, but any mutant dancers will find it hard to resist getting their freak on to these adventurous sounds.

  3. Untitled (6:07)
  4. Untitled (6:15)
Review: London-based Italian duo Konstress are back with their third release on their self-titled imprint, and it once again shows the pair progressing with a dynamic, detailed and original approach to stripped down dance music. The first track pits a stuttering groove against blown out keys and a smorgasbord of errant synth noises, and those noises jump across to the second track to plot a course through a highly textured, ominous soundscape where the drums have been left behind. The B1 track sports a tough, crooked groove and warm, sci-fi synth tones while the B2 takes a more eerie direction into deep and dingy techno. A classy, highly developed record for adventurous souls.

  2. Abduction (Benon edit) (7:49)
  3. Sun Of A Gun (Benon edit) (7:59)
Review: Launched deep into December 2015, Hannover label Malonian returns here with a second release that dips into the mid-'90s production archive of Alexander Kruger. Known for numerous aliases, among them Dub Taylor and Tigerskin, the focus here is Kruger's work as Korsakow; specifically his deep house gem "Abduction". Released as the title track on a 1996 12" for BCC Music, "Abduction" has that timeless deep house feel to it with crisp drum machine grooves, luxuriant pads and some fine vocal samples. It feels just as vibrant some 20 years on and is complemented on this Malonian edition by two edits from Romanian producer Benone, the latter a beefed up version of "Sun of a Gun," another Korsakov cut from 1996.

Review: Commonly found rocking out on Unison Wax, Constant Sound and Pleasure Zone, Diego Krause is a certified mover and shaker in the minimal house scene, and he's on fire with this latest round of missives for Blind Box. "Malice" leads the charge with a plethora of eerie synth textures flexing organically round the sturdy beat, while "Monolith" slips into a slinkier groove while keeping the tripped out tone tweaking at the forefront of our minds. "Return" brings a tougher, fist-pumping rhythm section with a snaking syn-cussion tones trickling throughout, providing Blind Box with plenty of material to sink their gnashers into on the remix.
