  3. Will Saul & Kommon - "Two For One" (original mix) (5:23)
  4. Will Saul & Kommon - "Two For One" (Appleblim remix) (6:29)
Review: As a follow-up to Will Saul's exclusive-packed - and generally well received - DJ Kicks set, !K7 has decided to reissue two of the most celebrated tracks, with fresh new remixes. On the A-side you'll find Jabru and Joel Culpepper's "Church" - a decidedly organic, soulful chunk of deep house/UK garage fusion - with accompanying Zed Bias rub. The UKG veteran gives it a bouncy, bassy two-step makeover, wisely retaining Culpepper's brilliant vocals. Flip for Will Saul and Komon's spacey "Two For One", where dreamy flourishes rub shoulders with throbbing electronics and delicate house beats. The remix is provided by Appleblim, who adds a new layer of percussive toughness - in a bruk-meets-two-step style - whilst retaining the warmth of the original.

  7. Dog Day Afternoon (7:46)
Review: Having made his debut on Roots For Bloom back in 2013, Michael James was made to wait for another opportunity to impress. That came last year via a trio of highly regarded releases on Constant Sound and its Constant Black offshoot. Things are clearly going well, because he's now served up his most expansive collection of tracks to date: a seven-track double-pack featuring a variety of club-ready treats. Check, for example, the low-slung, bass-heavy tech house creepiness of "Catch Me If You Can" and "Winds of Change", the gently spacey bump of "Stormy Skies" and the fluttering late night dreaminess of "Dog Day Afternoon", where stretched-out chords recline over a chunky, dub-influenced bassline.

  1. Aexn I O
  2. Aexn II O
  3. Aexn II I
  4. Aexn II II
  5. Ha Isle
Review: Operating out of the same Netherlands scene that fosters the likes of Roger Gerressen, Alex Jansen can be found contributing to the Dilated Pupils project amongst other ventures that orbit around the city of Nijmegen. On this release for UGold he takes his predilection for minimal house to the next level with some patient and subtle studies that reward the attentive listener. "Aexn I O" and "Ha Isle" in particular drift off into mystical territory where delay and reverb rules the day and the beats fall subtly. Elsewhere though there are plenty of meat n' potatoes grooves to be enjoyed across the three parts of "Aexn II", which thrusts out an uptempo beat offset by calming pads.

Review: Hut Vibez Records is a London based vinyl label, with a focus on house and techno.. HV002PT1 is designed for the club systems: the second instalment in the Hut Vibez Records series is a rhythmic release, sure to work the crowd. Jase is now delving deeper into the analogue world, creating music with a organic sound.Through this latest production he delivers two intuitive tracks, which capitalise on the sound vinyl can offer. Resonant and complex, these tracks demonstrate Jase's adept fascination with seeking out new ways to work, bringing a satisfying and exploratory sound to the techno realm.

  1. Katalox (6:08)
  2. Del's Kicks (6:10)
Review: Although he's only on his third release to date, Christian Jay is an Idle Hands boy, through and through. This return to the imprint places him in a convenient position, now able to show the world what 'bass' means to him, and exactly how he likes to construct his hybrid cuts. The lead tune "Katalox" is a suave, minimalistic garage stepper with a two-step stance, wrapped in all sorts of airy ambient waves; "Del's Kicks" is a similar sort of groove, this time breaking out yet more percussive glory. Cold, calculated, and utterly excellent.

  3. Florist - "Blacky" (5:59)
  4. Christian Jay & Crump - "GG3" (7:14)
Review: Bristol's Banoffee Pies are back with their 11th edition. But as far it goes musically: this certainty ain't Bristol! Starting out with the smoothly reduced tendencies of local lad Christian Jay's "Rhotic" which sounds inspired by the sounds of Trelik, there's more of the same (albeit much dubbier and smoked out) on "Starry Nite Life" courtesy of Utrecht's Larry de Kat; very paranoid afterhour vibes on this one! On the flip we've got some more dubbed out fare courtesy of Christian Jay, again, who enlists a bit of help from Crump on the rusty and dust coated "GG3". All Caps artist Florist adds a touch of Vancouver to proceedings with the squelchy DJ tool "Blacky."

Cat: RISQUEE 28. Rel: 19 Dec 16
  1. Troublermxshort (6:14)
  2. GTI (5:56)
  3. Bob In Motion (8:34)
Review: Munich minimal prankster Jichael Mackson is back! The producer known to his Mum as Boris Steffen appears for the third time on Vincent Lemieux and Stephen Beaupre's Musique Risque and it's his first return since 2010's fabulous Just In Time EP. The Catch 22 EP starts off on the A side with the deep and driving and, dare we call it: progressive house groove of "Troublermxshort" which is reminiscent of older tracks like "Hokus Pokus". There's also "GTI"; equally deep and on the proggy side but using an adrenalised and suspenseful sidechained melody which pumps away gloriously. Finally on the flip we've got the deep and immersive ambient house of "Bob In Motion". There's always a mellower and dubby track on Mackson's releases and for many they're favourites; this ethereal stunner does not disappoint.

  4. New Skool Acid (Matthias Tanzmann remix) (7:04)
Review: He's Hot Natured, tres Freak 'N Chic (once upon a time) but now he's gonna raise Kaoz on the dancefloor: business as usual from the UK tech house legend Jamie Jones. It's more of the smooth and slinky house you'd expect from Bangand or's finest on "Illicit Behaviour" often copied but never matched. He ups the ante on next track "New Skool Acid" which is much more fierce and funky. This dirty and druggy shuffler is definitely for the peak time. There's a bunch of killer remixes of said track too: we're particularly feeling Matthias Tanzmann's rendition where the Leipzig legend gives it a dark and atmospheric makeover for late night sleaze.

  2. Kooky Chords (6:33)
  3. Positive Pressure (feat Kevin Knapp) (6:12)
  4. Parallel Universe (6:32)
Review: Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones manages to find time for another release, in between his Ibiza residency and travelling the globe as one of modern house music's most popular DJs. His latest offering brings everything you'd expect from the Welshman and nothing less. These four Summery and pop-inflected tech house cuts are hot material on their own and make a cohesive EP. Starting off with the anthemic "Sound Of Music" covering jungle legend Nookie's track of the same name and with pop sensation Katy B on vocals. The rolling peak time groove "Kooky Chords" is absolutely the sound of not only 'The Island' but Jones' label and will bang the party just as much as recent offerings by wAFF or Phil Kieran. On the flip, there's a bouncy and sleazy early evening jam in the form of "Positive Pressure" featuring American Kevin Knapp and the druggy/minimal afterhours DJ tool "Parallel Universe".

  2. Cohesion (Trevino remix)
  3. Through The Motions
  4. Through The Motions (U-More remix)
Review: Laura Jones unveiled her new label Sensoramic in May with SAM and Karousel cutting the opening tape in appropriate style. For the second release Laura delivers her first EP since 2014. After taking time out to experiment in the studio and refine her style, The Why Question marks an evolution in the UK producer's output delivering two incendiary underground club cuts ably remixed by Trevino and U-More. Two veterans working under aliases, Trevino is of course better known as legendary drum 'n' bass producer Marcus Intalex who has more recently found a home for his 4/4 output on Klockworks, The Nothing Special and his own label, Birdie. U-More is Italian veteran and Berliner, Ivan Iacobucci, fresh from releasing on Apollonia and a slew of underground minimalist labels who delivers a late night acid laden afterhours workout to compliment Trevino's big room counterpart.

  1. Pollen 4 Life (main mix) (11:50)
  2. Pollen 4 Life (dub mix) (9:00)
Review: What a collaboration this is! Two of the modern masters of hypnotic techno (and dynamic live acts alike) team up for some elaborate, melodic and and truly entrancing auditory journeys for Hypercolour. Mathew Jonson should need no introduction: the Canadian producer bursting onto the scene in the mid noughties with releases on itiswhatitis and his own Wagon Repair imprint. Sebastian Mullaert also has a long history in electronic music; at one time part of duo Minilogue in addition to recording for Kontra Musik and m_nus more recently and running his great WaWuWe label. Strap yourself in for an epic journey across all its 12 minutes of glory on St "Pollen 4 Life (main mix)" where a medley of dreamy and gliding arpeggios dance away over subtle and minimal elements; a trademark of both respective producers. The dub version on the flip is much tougher and darker; aimed squarely at the dancefloor to get into some of those more tunnelling, vortex like moments.

Business EP (Mathew Jonson mix) (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIS 304. Rel: 28 May 18
  1. Business (Mathew Jonson Late For Work remix)
  2. Let Your Body
  3. Business
Review: 20/20 Vision welcome Nathan Jonson to the label to deliver some of his esteemed beats - he was previously known as Hrdvision, and as a member of Midnight Operator alongside his infamous brother Mathew. It is in fact MJ who gets the run of the A side with a bouncing, bubbly remix of "Business" that calls to mind some of the most wriggly threads in that unmistakable Jonson sound. "Let Your Body" strikes a different tone on the B-side, conjuring up some rave ghosts and decanting them into a thoroughly modern club burner heavy on the dramatic arrangement and sure to create wild responses on the dancefloor. "Business" in its original form is a loose and funky-as-hell electro jam with live, glutinous monosynth flex and Detroit-tinted pads to die for.

Review: Kiev based label Wicked Bass has proven to be one of the most intriguing operations in the Ukraine, operating an impeccable selection policy when it comes to its signings. Following on from the excellent Healing Force Project 12", the latest missive on the label comes from Galdoors co-founder Junes, who presents some of his strange and slippery techno variations for adventurous spinners who crave subtleties in their jams. "Of No Memory" has a wonderfully hypnotic quality to it, while "Pacing" heads down the minimal route to deadly effect. "Body Shirk" finishes the EP off with a head-turning set of drums and some tripped out synths.
