Review: There is a colour TV program which airs nightly which is called: "The Most Beautiful Train Routes Of Germany"! During the show a locomotive travels over the tracks and the person on-screen is via the camera perspective at long last the conductor. It's a wonderful idea, where you seem to be somewhere between monotony and fascination. With this scenario in mind, you will be taken into the night and this is the soundtrack. The conductor must stay awake, and this music is the caffeine to get it done. The thoughts are freely suspended without the concentration having to suffer! The pillars of this music are melancholy: power and volition (will) which is thus paired with tenderness and passion. This is in connection with an irresistible swing of effortless movement out in the open revealing confidence in the darkness. Confused thoughts are with only a few ingredients steered to a specific determination of the sound cosmos helped by freely breathing. The concept all formed by a certain Douglas Greed who has a solid reference with two releases on the Combination Records. This one is actually well-known as a drum & bass activist in Thuringia. However, as it always is with the music "Schizo-Aficionado", the type must be stamped with a synonym for the crowds to put a face to, in this case powerful yet at the same time tender odes. It's for nothing for musical needs to be dimmed with psycho-pharmaceuticals, only because the ol'doc doesn't understand the split personality is an essential element. Mr Greed accompanied in the future by his familiar 'Live-Laptop-Action' handle spreads his musical seeds of dance fertilization over the speakers. When there 3 tracks don't comprise a proper bid there is only one alternative: migrate to an island and just play the bongos and didgeridoo! "Curie" from the darkness awakes the driving power of the gloom which within, brings light to the depths. Therein lies the guttural hovering of a bat of steel covered in soft golden feathers sauntering about. The further you descend, hope that all mourning has been defeated and the belief of positive in all is rekindled. "Fresh and Clean" the immaculate conception inside of an enormous machinery building! The devices are all dumfounded, only life matters - everyone experiences the resurrections of happiness. Through the milky glass streams the driving power of love. The intense ecstasy can be danced to! "Let's Roll" picture the docks at sunset. Everything moves along slowly, the will of the sea has been conquered on arrival just the effort needed. Everything is rhythm and melody, every finish and activity even the raising up the anchor and the drone of the propeller creates a sound of vastness. The dance on the water can now begin!

  1. Bigger Than Prince (original)
  2. Bigger Than Prince (The Martinez Brothers remix)
  3. Bigger Than Prince (Hot Since 82 remix)
Review: ** Camera's ready. Prepare for the Repress ** Curtis Jones is never one to rest on his laurels, as his staggering back catalogues as Green Velvet and Cajmere can attest but such is the force of his personality that a new release still feels like an event. "Bigger Than Prince" capitalises on Jones' knack for a vocal that lambasts the less earnest quirks of the dance music industry, while creating the hook to make the track a bomb in the same instance. Production-wise, there's a measured strut to the track with some choice growling bass synths and an underlying disco flavour that suits Jones just fine. On the remix front, Circus turn to The Martinez Brothers to hammer out a rolling, percussion focused version perfect for big room mixing, while Hot Since 82 turn out a similar line in boompty peak time damage.

  4. Sequence (Dan Farserelli remix) (7:17)
Review: Berlin-based Miami man David Gtronic has been busy these past few years, working closely with Randall M, Chad Andrew, Dudley Strangeways and many more besides. He's going it alone with this inaugural release for Black Wood, relishing the opportunity to explore his craft across three original productions. "Ardl Dub" is a dense, shuffling minimal house production primed for working into a long and flowing set, while "Lexiwedin" showcases a more reflective side to the producer with sweeping synth tones and a whisper of electro worked into the rhythms. "Sequence" takes the minimal vibe to the next level, folding dubby subtleties into the mix to great effect. Dan Farserelli then steps up with a remix that injects a little boompty bass into the track for a wholly different, dancefloor friendly kind of jam.

  1. Modern Sublime (10:25)
  2. Landing (6:38)
  3. Landing (Ernesto Ferreyra remix) (6:51)
Review: The long awaited third edition of Swiss imprint and party brand Mdrnty comes courtesy of Quebecois minimal veteran Guillaume Coutu Dumont, following up fine editions by Richard Wolfsdorf aka Ricardo Villalobos and Visionquest's Ryan Crosson. Coutu Dumont has kept a fairly low profile in the last few years, but came back with a vengeance in 2018 on his local imprint Musique Risquee - and much like that release we see him pursue a much deeper and contemplative side. But rest assured it doesn't take itself too seriously, as per usual. From the hypnotic A side cut "Modern Sublime" awash in filtered disco loops, funky bass and assorted analogue blips and blurps. On the flip, we have subtle yet rolling deepness of "Landing" a hypnotic cut that's perfect for a Romanian afterhours session - it also gets a groovy and uptempo remix next by Ernesto Ferreyra of Cadenza fame.

  1. Histoires Vraies (6:29)

  3. Whatever's Inside (12:22)
Review: Guillaume Coutu Dumont returns! The Quebecois minimal maestro serves up his first release in three years since his Revolution In The Cycles EP for London's Freerange Records. Entitled Shouts Moans & Significance, it comes courtesy of revered local imprint Musique Risque - which is equally as retrained on the release front, with this one following up a killer 2016 release by German producer Jichael Mackson. Opening with the deeply hypnotic affair "Histoires Vraies" with its mesmerizing bell melodies reminiscent of recent work by Thomas Melchior or DeWalta - coincidentally Coutu Dumont has previously released on the latter's Meander imprint. His rich background in electro-acoustic and avant garde music is evident up next on the oddball groove of "Far Is The Field" while "Whatever's Inside" is trippy and low-slung minimal house for the afterhours - something you'd imagine label boss Vincent Lemieux playing up at Panorama Bar on a Saturday morning.

  1. Volver (6:49)
  2. Nuevo (7:08)
  3. Nuevo (Enzo Siragusa remix) (6:37)
Review: Guti is arguably one of dance music's most enthusiastic collaborators. To date, the Argentine producer has released joint productions with an impressive list of house and techno talent, including Martin Buttrich, Shlomi Aber, Benny Rodriguez, Morgan and Guy Gerber. On this 12", he's joined in the studio by Romanian rising star Cristi Cons. The like-minded pair hit the ground running with "Volver", a stomping tech-house floor-filler whose tough, acid-flecked groove and metronomic bassline come wrapped in ghostly chords and trippy electronics. Over on the B-side, "Nuevo" is a chunky but spacey deep house affair. That track is given the remix treatment by Enzo Siragusa, who brilliantly toughens it up and drags it further towards peak-time techno territory.

  4. Dating A Comet (9:07)
Review: Argentina's Guti and Russia's Roustam go head to head on this new house-techno hybrid EP for the fast-evolving Trevisio imprint. The fourth EP in the series sees the two artists collaborate in the studio, and the results are unfailingly seductive - itchy house vibes all around! The opening "Re:Introduction" sets the scene with a deep, dub-fuelled house gem that lacks absolutely no energy in its charging percussion, and that's followed by an even more hypnotic blend of bass and beats thanks to the East Man Dubs remix. "Rude Track" strips the bass back in favour of more synths and heavier kicks, while "Dating A Comet" is the duo's most accomplished tune, meandering its bleepy waves to a sway of subtle delay and dubbwise flavours.

  3. Villa H2H - "Conspiracy Two" (7:33)
  4. Villa H2H - "Conspiracy Three" (4:46)
Review: Here's something to excite all those who like their stripped-back techno to come with a heavy dose of soul. It features Chilean minimal maestro Ricardo Villalobos join forces with Chez Damier and Ben Vedren's H2H project. On the A-side, Villalobos delivers a superb remix of "No More", wrapping lusciously soulful vocals and languid piano motifs around a typically bouncy and left-of-centre minimal techno rhythm. On the flip, Villalobos joins Damier and Verden to deliver a three-part "Conspiracy". Each of the three interpretations has its own distinctive vibe, but all deliver a near perfect balance between soul-flecked deep house, trippy tech-house, Chicago acid and the South American wonkiness that Villalobos does so well. In other words, it's a musical marriage made in Heaven.

Review: Hungarian imprint All Inn has done a terrific job with this reissue of US tech-house stalwart Halo's 2000 cut "Future", a rolling, percussive, late night classic that remains one of the producer's finest tracks. Alongside the original version, there's a gaggle of new remixes stretched out across the 10" and 12" package. Coldfish provides a languid, jazz-tinged, deep "broken house" interpretation, with French producer Janeret opting for a hypnotic and loopy take reminiscent of Circulation's best work. The Howl Ensemble bumps up the bass for a more dub-fuelled deep house feel, while Jaffa Surfa opts for a more metallic tech-house vibe. Also worth checking is the PolAmbient interpretation, which launches the track into deep space via heavy sub-bass and intergalactic effects.

  1. G76 - "Father"
  2. H+Dk - "Tachtagol Connection"
Review: Hamid's H+ (HPLS) label continues to plough a furrow into the freakiest corners of the minimal scene, keeping the spirit of labels like Telegraph and Minibar alive with off-kilter beats, freaky sampling and wayward synth work from lesser known operators. G76 is up on the A side with the wonky wonders of "Father", packing some seriously squelchy monosynth bass and plenty of beat trickery to wriggle under the skin of the most deviant dancers. H+DK (Hamid and Denis Kaznacheev) tackle the B-side with "Tachtagol Connection", keeping the drums as slender as possible and using a sweet but subtle pad as the focus of the track. It's a simple approach, but utterly effective.

Review: Moscow Records boss Archie Hamilton appears this time on Enzo Siragusa's Fuse London imprint with these slices of rolling, Latin-infused tech-house for the beach party. This is the kind of stuff that lovers of Mindshake and Rawthentic will be all over. First up "Mind Blank" brings the tough yet sultry attitude that you could imagine playing peak time at Amnesia. "Works On Sunday" takes the tempo down a notch or two for something more suited to the afterhours, but just as sexy. There's also a remix of this on the flip by none other than label boss Siragusa with Seb Zito keeping the afterhours vibe intact but with a druggier, minimal take on things.

Review: Moscow Records boss Archie Hamilton is a long time friend of the FUSE London family, having previously contributed to a number of releases. Driven To Distraction, though, is his first FUSE outing since 2015. Interestingly, there's quite a bit of surprising variety amongst the three tracks; compare, for example, the shuffling tech-house grooves and flamenco guitars of B-side "Channelled", with the title track's bouncy, deep house/acid house fusion. "Telegram", where wilder TB-303 acid lines and dubbed-out riffs ride an undulating, late night groove, is also rather nifty. In other words, it's a solid EP containing tracks tailor-made for different dancefloor situations.

Review: Number 7 in Music is Love's sister label MIL arrives and throws the spotlight on rising Irish producer Chris Hanna, last seen impressing for Ejeca's Exploris label. Opening proceedings on Muscle House is "Drone", a rough and distorted track that is narrated by the constant synth buzzing above the heavy groove laid down by Hanna. Complementing this, "The Colonel" maintains a peak time mood with some furiously paced drums cannoning around the mix atop a heavily sequenced bassline. Title track "Muscle House" opens the B-side, offering Hanna the chance to show off his prowess at acid lines, whilst closer "UM9" veers off into epic, emotive territory without losing any of the rugged, rhythmic physicality shown throughout the 12".

Now the Malmo-based producer and DJ readies a three track techno / house EP on HMWL's vinyl sublabel Heartbreak Records. Review: Hardway Bros is Sean Johnston - DJ, producer and one half of A Love from Outer Space with Andrew Weatherall. He's fast become a staple of James 'Fucking' Friedman's Throne Of Blood imprint with his modern take on classic house music formulas. If it 'aint broke, dont fix it we say - Johnston's winning formula is on show once again with the heads-down acid wiggle of "Friedman Deeback Loop Revision" followed by the metal dance of "The Laser" closing out the A side in neon-lit, electro fashion. On the flip, Maxime Pasquier (Sheik 'N' Beik/Kill The DJ) delivers a bleepu nu-disco rendition of the A side cut and final offering while "Afro Sirene" goes for a trippy and lo-slung Afro vibe.
