Cat: YAYHF 06. Rel: 27 Jun 18
  1. Aggravate (8:55)
  2. Acatenango (8:12)
  3. Surumu (7:26)
Review: After obsessing about Sascha Funke's tracks for a long time, Rebolledo finally got the chance to release some music by him on his new label You And Your Hippie Friends - a sublabel of Hippie Dance which he runs with Superpitcher. Funke, a veteran of the Berlin, scene only recently came back to solo production after years of working on the Saschienne project together with partner Julienne Dessagne (AKA Fantastic Twins). He has had some terrific releases on Endless Flight, Turbo and Multi Culti. The Acatenango EP features three fervent tracks: from the neon-lit Italo disco groove of "Aggravate", to the esoteric trip going deep into the exotic that is the title track - this one will hypnotise truly you into submission.

Cat: MALONIAN 003. Rel: 13 Mar 17
  1. Calimero (14:02)
  2. Handicap (11:31)
  3. Dalailoop (0:17)
Review: Jon Voickmer and Michael Salsal's Fusal project was worthy of a home like the Malonian label, and we'd been looking out for the duo's next release ever since their debut for 87 Records back in a now distant 2015. "Calimero" picks up where they left off, and we're back with another fine assortment of post-minimalistic glitch and neo-classical experimentation - a true head-spinner in all senses of the word. "Handicap" is no less entrepreneurial in its choice of sounds and melodic constructions, except that the groove feels a lot more dance-centric here, which is revved up one step further on the frantic patterns of "Delailoop", another intriguing minimal excursion that will undoubtedly please the electronic shut-ins.

Haze Phenomenon EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: EQV 06. Rel: 23 Apr 18
  1. Shelf Cloud (7:40)
  2. Halo (6:30)
  3. Haze Phenomenon (8:30)
Review: Rising Greek producer G.U.S. steps up on Equivalence with some pumped up vintage techno sounds that take more than a few cues from the UK. "Shelf Cloud" strikes a fine balance between tough and dreamy, using a twitchy set of drums moving at a decent pace and flooding them with atmospheric pads and a slice of vocal that forms a central hook to the track. "Halo" goes even deeper into British territory with its chopped up breakbeat funk calling to mind the dexterous sample magic of Stasis, and then "Haze Phenomenon" heads into deep tech house territory riding a pumped up shuffle beat and swooping pads.

  2. Four For Four (16:18)
Review: "Rituale is a brand new label for 2016 setting off with a beautiful structured EP called (Bury Me Where I Fall) by the talented producer known as G76. This EP is made up with 2 original track's lasting up to a good 16 minuets each. A1 - Youth Riot & B1 - Four For Four. The heart and soul of this EP is represented by the rioting youth struggling for a better future in a society riddled with corruption and selfishness."

909's & Petty Crimes (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ALB 009. Rel: 16 Apr 18
  1. Indecent Exposure (5:48)
  2. Drunk & Disorderly (7:49)
  3. Fraudulent Cheque (7:32)
Review: Parisian producer Gab Jr has been active for a couple of years now, mainly appearing on Automatic Writing with a quirky strain of minimal house that harks back to the fine legacy of leftfield 4/4 oddities that have hailed from the French capital since the 90s. Albion Records clearly dig that sound, having previously welcomed Ark into their ranks, and Gab jr sounds right at home slapping down the chunky rhythm and spannered sound bites of "Indecent Exposure." "Drunk & Disorderly" pares the beat down and ramps the freakiness up with a killer synth hook and some oddball vocal processing, and then "Fraudulent Cheque" bowls across the B side in a fit of tough drums and screwy micro sampling.

Ambulate (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ROG 2. Rel: 12 Mar 18
  1. Ambulate
  2. Dover Calling
Review: After an excellent first release featuring Freerotation lynchpin Steevio, Russ Gabriel's Rivers Of Groove label returns with a pair of excursions into lush, bubbling techno from Gabriel on his own. As a first generation UK techno stalwart, it's little wonder that he can turn out productions as accomplished as these, but there's no sense that he's treading water. "Ambulate" bears the hallmarks of modular production, all twinkling, morphing synth tones chiming around a delicate beat, while "Dover Calling" favours a snappier electro palette, but both stand out from the crowd for the sheer quality in the production, the warmth in the composition and the needlepoint focus given to every shred of detail in this crucial cuts.

Cat: SUB 007. Rel: 30 Nov 18
  1. PK Fire (7:15)
  2. Thunderbird (6:54)
  3. Fore (6:27)
  4. Leisure Suit (5:23)
Review: Gene On Earth's first two releases, both of which were released on his Limousine Dream imprint, showcased a retro-futurist production style rich in audible nods to vintage styles of electronic music. He's at it again on this latest outing, first wrapping bleep melodies and bowel-bothering sub-bass around elastic breakbeats on "PK Fire", before dousing a crunchy two-step rhythm in spacey tech-house electronics on "Thunderbird". You'll find more saucer-eyed nods to dance music's halcyon era on the flipside, where the modified early drum and bass skittishness of "Leisure Suit" follows the deep UK-garage-meets-ambient-techno flex of "Fore". While the nods to the past are obvious, there's enough quality contemporary flavour in each track to avoid accusations of hollow revivalism.

Are You Losing My Hearing? (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: MSN 017. Rel: 04 Sep 15
  1. Are You Losing My Hearing? (5:19)
  2. Moneychangers (6:59)
Review: Tom 'Dam Mantle' Marshallsay and Rich McMaster from Golden Teacher were first granted an outlet as General Ludd through Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter's Mister Saturday Night last year with the breathless pair of house burners that made up the Woo Ha 12". Since then the General has brought the Luddite house sound to Clan Destine, 10 Thousand Yen and Autonomous Africa among others and now lands back on the Mister for the keenly anticipated Are You Losing My Hearing? Another two-track exercise in 12" dynamism, the title cut finds GL in sprightly house mood with a rubbery feel not too dissimilar to Gerd's Geeeman output. Flip it over and "Moneychangers" veers off into more dystopian, heads down territory with some killer modular squiggles throughout.

  2. Difid - "The Dream Place" (7:35)
  3. Boniface - "Dentelle" (8:10)
  4. Robert David - "Pas Parol" (8:48)
Review: Previously, Yoyaku Distribution's deep house-minded Aku imprint has delivered in-demand EPs from the likes of Janaret and Varhat. Here, the label serves up its first compilation style outing, showcasing tracks from a quartet of artists new to the imprint. Tartouffe type Roger Gerressen kicks things off with the tech-tinged spring deep house positivity of "Simian Acres", before Difid adds jammed-out, lo-fi keys and lucid electronics to a bustling bassline and swinging beats on "The Dream Place". Over on the flip, you'll find a metallic but funky analogue box jam by Boniface ("Pentelle") and the driving late night hustle of Robert David's tech-house-inspired "Pas Parol".

  3. The Key (6:41)
  4. Beyond (5:47)
Review: Having shared his last two releases with fellow rising star Henry Hyde, Chris Geschwinder finally gets to showcase his wares over two sides of wax. He hits his stride straight away with "Foxfeeder", a rather fine slab of dreamy tech-house underpinned by a deliciously hooky bassline, before diving deeper into early UK tech-house waters via the elongated chords and dreamy, glassy-eyed pads of "Axur". Over on the flip, Geschwinder first raises the tempo (and our energy levels) with the rolling goodness of "The Key", then daydreams about personal space travel on the acid-flecked deep electro shimmer of "Beyond". As first full EPs go, the young German's is a bit of a gem.

  3. Robotalco - "No More Disco" (4:51)
  4. Klubbhuset - "SS0817" (6:11)
Review: The high grade, leftfield approach to house music Lyssna have set out as their MO continues in fine style on this new Colours series, starting with the Yellow EP and a strong cast of characters from the outer reaches. Riciar Ghir opens up proceedings with the tumbling deep house of "Cargo", making the keys dance with distinction and injection a subby rumble where it counts. Minimal Afrika follow that up with a percussive tryst entitled "Drakma Queen" that blossoms into a sumptuous ambient excursion. Robotalco takes a very different approach with some classically pumping sample-powered house music to shake feel-good fists to, and then Klubbhuset finishes up with an impassioned romp through peak time disco licks for the peak of the night.

  3. Balfrin (7:12)
  4. Balfrin (Vincentiulian remix) (8:01)
Review: This rock solid tech-house four-tracker marks the return to Norse Projekt of the brilliantly named Bertalan Bagylas, better known as Giash. The well-regarded producer begins his first NP 12" for three years with "Lyskamm", a gently undulating late night roller rich in glitchy noises, ricocheting percussion hits, strange noises and subdued orchestration. Bagylas serves up some deeper, darker and dubbier fare in the shape of "Urban Landscape", before alternating between Romanian style minimal techno grooves and spooky breakdowns on bleary-eyed cut "Balfrin". To round off the EP, Vincentiulian gives that track a loose, dreamy and gently positive tech-house makeover.

  1. Inner Voices (Terry Francis remix) (7:05)
  2. Inner Voices (8:13)
  3. Blackstar (7:33)
  4. Special One (7:16)
Review: Andes Music is a label based in Santiago, Chile, owned by Francisco Allendes and Marcelo Rosselot. Previous releases have come from Alejandro Vivanco, Mariano DC, Felipe Valenzuela and Alexi Delano. Their latest comes courtesy of duo One + 1 comprised of Ruber Solar and Alexander Necaa with Gil One. They provide some deeply hypnotic minimal house for the afterhours on "Inner Voices" which also comes with a nice remix by Fabric resident Terry Francis: his version going down an even tripper and reductionist route: that's equally geared for weirdo moments down at Club Der Visionaere on a Sunday. On the flip, things get a bit dubbier on the rolling and tough stomper "Blackstar" and things get even more flanged and drenched in reverb / delay with the euphoric closer "Special One".

Cat: EQV 04. Rel: 03 Oct 16
  1. I (11:28)
  2. II (7:03)
  3. III (9:17)
Review: Four years on from the release of Glacial's debut album - a favourite of Ricardo Villalobos, who clearly appreciated its blend of electronic minimalism, dub and woodwind instruments - co-producer George Laimos has decided to get some remixes done. This time round, he's turned to Dutchman Ion Ludwig, who delivers a trio of long, winding interpretations. A-side "I" is a 12-minute exploration of intertwining saxophone solos, clarinet lines, and jazzy textures, underpinned by a sparse but solid techno groove. He explores Glacial's dub influences a little more on the darker, chunkier "II", before rounding things off with the smoky saxophones, sustained note chords and hypnotic grooves of "III".
