  1. Spring Dom (8:04)
  2. Spring Dom (Medlar remix) (5:51)
  3. Clubtronic (7:13)
  4. Miss You (7:19)
Review: Wolf Music are back, following up releases of late by flying Dutchman Frits Wentink, Mr Fries and Pedro & Camille, with a reissue of a golden 2003 deep house nugget in the form of BRS (British Rhythm Services) - 'Spring Dom'. The EP is a proper serving of boogie-down antics including a terrific remix by label staple Ned Pegler aka Medlar. Late night deep house with a French touch is catered for on the ultra smooth "Clubtronic", while "Miss You" will captivate with its creamy Rhodes and gentle swing-fuelled groove. Originally released on UK label Cyclo back in 2003, BRS formed in 1998 and was comprised of DJ Ben Vacara, Rob 'Twin' Evans and Mr Mulatto.

  4. Stirling (feat High Hopes - Damiano von Erckert remix)
Review: Nicholas Church and Joseph Spencer's Casino Times collaboration makes its way onto Wolf Music for the first time with the four-track Wolf 23 EP. First up is the ravey, French house and broken beat disco throwback "Principles", which leads into a rich sounding and piano sprinkled "AWD". Things become all the more low slung on a moody, rhode-driven "Stirling" featuring the Galchwer Lustwerk-esque vocals of High Hope, which Damiano von Erckert turns into a tribal, deep and dubby late night rhythm. A killer rework indeed.

  1. Carlotta (Al Zanders remix) (8:01)
  2. Oddity (Moomin remix) (6:20)
Review: The latest release from the reliable Wolf Music camp is a limited edition, hand-stamped affair, and features two previously unheard remixes of tracks from Casino Times' Familiar Circles full-length. On the A-side, Al Zanders does a stellar job reworking "Carlotta", in the process laying down a hypnotic, percussion rich deep house shuffler full of bright cowbell hits, sunset-friendly jazz guitar licks and bubbly electronic melodies. On the flip you'll find a more than pleasant surprise: a deep, dreamy and utterly beguiling drum & bass remix of "Oddity" from Smallville regular Moomin. Its expert combination of evocative musical elements and crispy, snare-driven D&B rhythms is reminiscent of the golden age of Bukem-style liquid D&B.

  6. Jonse (3:54)
Review: Manchester's Garth Be is up next on esteemed London based imprint Wolf Music. This is his latest release since last year's Law Of Fives EP on Ruf Kutz. Much like fellow homeboy and elder statesman Trus'Me, he channels the dusty, soulful and emotive sounds of the Motor City like that of Kenny Dixon Jr and Theo Parrish et al and even sneaks in a few cheeky disco edits like on the intro "Feelin To Be". On the evocative "Pashun" we have a right wicked jam packed full of tight and dusty rhythms, neon-lit synths and emotive chord progressions. The late night deepness of "Allens" is another worthy addition to this collection of fine tunes, as is the off-kilter minimal electro of "Jodisho" and the absolutely saturated lo-fi/slo-mo bliss of "Jonse".

  1. Give It To Me Slow (San Soda remix)
  2. Tief
  3. Give It To Me Slow (Session Victim remix)
  4. Give It To Me Slow (Casino Times remix)
Review: Greymatter's "Give It To Me Slow" is considered by many to be a classic in the Wolf Music canon, and further evidence of their status as one of the UK's finest house music hubs is provided here as San Soda and Session Victim get busy with giving the track some fresh sonic perspective. The effort from Belgian artist San Soda opens proceedings on the 12th Wolf Music 12" creeping from the sonic mists into a classic We Play House refrain, showing equal poise for rhythm and colourful melody. Session Victim provide an equally good revision, all low set bass warmth, intricate percussive rhythms that slowly swell into a thick set house groove rich in glowering emotive detail. Wolf Music cohorts Casino Times add some UK flavour with a further; particularly bass orientated remix, whilst South London club Tief is paid homage to on an all new Greymatter production.

  1. Something For The Dancers (6:47)
  2. From Garage (5:57)
  3. Something For The Dancers (Kerri Chandler Dark mix) (8:33)
Review: On the one-to-watch list for those in the know, Lea Lisa has released on Mona Musique, Memories and Chez Damier's Inner Balance Recordings, alongside her role within the InnerDisc record store family. Presenting "The Legacy EP" for the ever-reliable Wolf Music here, she showcases her unquestionable talent across the two opening cuts. The soulful, emotive and near spiritual vibes of opener "Something For The Dancers" reaches near Ron Trent like moments with its weighty synth lines, dream-like pads and powerful bass tones, and the sensual late night deepness of "From Garage" which combines sultry vocals, analogue keys and thumping percussion doffs a cap to Chicago and Detroit deep house classics. Arguably best of all though, is the remix on the flip by the one and only Kerri Chandler - the Kaoz Theory chief serves up a heavenly slice of house with his "Dark Mix"; a shuffling garage house beat blending beneath sustained string synths and signature stabs. Classic Kerri style.

  3. Parkour! (5:05)
  4. Parkour! (Medlar's Timbale dub mix) (4:55)
Review: There is no producer named Manuel Darquart; in fact, it's a long-distance collaboration between two up-and-coming studio buffs, Louis Anderson-Rich and Sean Whittaker. Their latest EP, a first, high-profile outing on Wolf Music, is simply superb. It sees the pair offer-up a trio of loved-up, saucer-eyed cuts that draw heavily on the sunrise-ready colour of early Italian dream house, the ricocheting machine drums of proto-house and the tactile dreaminess of late 80s New Jersey deep house. Our pick is Don Carlos-esque opener 'Keep It Dxy', though the more Balearic 'Miranda' and bubbly 'Parkour' are not far behind. The EP also boasts a fine bonus in the shape of Medlar's extra-percussive 'Timbales Dub Mix' of 'Parkour', a more intense but no less huggable interpretation tailor-made for peak-time dancefloors.

Review: Manuel Darquart is actually a couple of Kiwis named Louis Anderson-Rich (aka Louie From The Club) and Sean Whitaker, who nowadays live in London. They are back on local imprint Wolf Music after their debut for the label last year with this 10' featuring a couple of nice reworks of the track 'Keep It Dxy'. On the A side, we have got Italian Don Carlos' remix which takes the track into sunny balearic territory, while over on the flip you can enjoy the low-slung broken beat swing of Manny D's Sleazy Sunday mix.

Review: Medlar has consistently been one of Wolf Music's biggest assets over the last three years, delivering a string of impressive tracks and singles for the growing house imprint. Here, he steps up with a debut album (incidentally, it's also Wolf's first full-length proper), a sleepy, heart-warming trip through late night deep house. Littered with atmospheric samples, jazzy skits and restless interludes, Sleep proves that house albums need not be solely focused on the needs of the dancefloor. Highlights are plentiful, from the cymbal-heavy nocturnal paranoia of "1516" and string-drenched sweetness of "Tap Spring", to the Moodymann-ish "Blues" and hazy jazziness of the inspired "Lines". Recommended.

Review: Sebastian Genz's third full length this time around is surprisingly not released via Hamburg's Smallville (an imprint he's a known staple of) nor his own Closer Music - rather, it's for London deep house merchants Wolf Music. The Yesterday's Tomorrow LP is said to see the Berlin based artist go back to his roots, revisiting his early influences such as hip-hop and jungle, mixed with the sample driven house he's become renowned for. Deep and dusty late-night emotions await you on "Daysdays" and "In Our Lifetime", a soulful/jazzy kinda something on "Maybe Tomorrow", the liquid drum & bass of "Move On" (which calls to mind the mid-'90s glory days when Alex Reece and Peshay reigned supreme) or the blunted urban blues of "949494". it's a compelling listen from start to finish.

Review: Last year, Portuguese producer Pedro Ricardo joined forces with Jenna Camille to release an assured debut single on Wolf Music Recordings. Here he returns to the Brighton-based imprint with a seriously good solo salvo. By and large, he's on a loose and language jazz tip, with free-jazz influencer opener "She Is" being joined by the cyclical clipped guitars and fluid piano motifs of the laidback "Faces Sob O Sol" and the sparkling, synth-heavy, intergalactic jazz-funk flex of "Alef". Straight-up dancefloor thrills are provided by Moomin's deep, spacey and wonderfully dreamy drum and bass rework of "Faces Sob O Sol".

Review: Something a little bit different from London deep house/nu-disco specialists Wolf Music here. Portuguese producer Pedro teams up with Washington DC based vocalist Jenna Camille. Featuring influences from jazz though to soul, R'n'B and broken beat: as heard on the sexy late night mood lighting of "Float" which you can imagine hearing in the basement of a smoky jazz club, the super sultry "Keep It H 2000" or the funky beat beneath the smooth groove of "Future Dance" (It'll Be Ok). It might be from Porto by way of the American capital, but this really nails that UK kind of vibe in the vein of Kaidi Tatham, Mark De Clive Lowe or Atjazz.

The young producer has released for Waxtefacts Records and Khasia Hills Records previously but now for Brighton based house heroes Wolf Music. On the A side, we have the dusty and disco-fied deepness of "Here I Am" and "Freshly Squeezed" respectively which utilise rusty and skittering old drumcomputer patterns with tastefully borrowed diva vocal samples to stunning effect. On the flip, the solemn and emotive "Flip The Script" closes out this fine little EP out in style.

In Love Again
Cat: WOLFW 001. Rel: 08 Dec 20
Deep House
  1. In Love Again (10:04)
  2. Latin Techno (6:51)
Review: With his release schedule operating at a gentle pace to allow for each of his twelves to sit and be considered on their own merit, Daniel 'Red Rack'Em' Berman makes just his second outing of 2013 with this pair of cuts for the ever strengthening Wolf Music. It's a record that shows off Berman's idiosyncratic approach to deep house on two very different levels. The first track, "In Love Again", is as blissed-out and heartfelt a take as you could wish for, from the sumptuous pad lines to the plastic strings that positively ooze contentment and passion. "Latin Techno" meanwhile is perhaps less predictable based on its title, opting for a jagged cut up of drum machine patterns and contorted brass sounds but rubbing them up in a non-direct way that makes for a delirious and utterly singular end result.

Review: Retromigration is the nom de plume of Malik Kassim, a DJ and producer from Amsterdam with previous releases on labels like Ravanelli Disco Club, GLBDOM and Healthy Scratch. The five tracks featured on the Bloom Street EP come to you courtesy of London's Wolf Music, featuring the sensual late night mood music of A side cut 'Brining It' and its velvety Rhodes keys that guide it all the way. Over on the flip, you have the urban influenced jam 'Free Spirit' getting that Berlin vibe going on that's reminiscent of Max Graef and Glenn Astro's work, and ending with the dusty jazz bar loops of 'Slick Walkin' that takes you deeper into the twilight hours.

  2. Medlar - "Carry It"
  3. Squarehead - "Be Withou"
  4. Ishmael - "Au Juju"
Review: Big manoeuvres as usual from the Wolf Music crew on their 18th release! Session Victim must rank amongst the most high profile inductees into the Wolf Music series so it makes perfect sense for the German duo to open proceedings with the classic slab of European deepness that is "Random Blues". Worthy of a Raw Cuts release, Session Victim weave dusty drums, sweet vocal intonations and the warmest of basslines together with the resultant laid back track likely to be much played in Croatia over the summer evenings. Complementing this, "Carry It" from Wolf Music regular Medlar adopts a similar hazy house tone whilst the flip holds a pair of newcomers in Squarehead and Ishmael - the latter's cut is particularly special!

Review: Velour's much loved album on Wolf Music gets the full remix treatment here. Four of the cuts get reworked by label associates old and new and it is mainstay Hulk Hodn who goes first. His take on 'Tom's Garage' is a noodling chords and late night seduction. South London's Footshooter then brings some big broken beat work and swirling synths to a floor facing jam, and Frits Wentink follows up his big recent Dekmantel release with a high energy stomper that bubbles with dreamy vocal charm. Last of all is super cool and jazz heavy 20/100 remix of 'Luminate' that is space age, Detroit tinged, sunset house.
