Review: The White Material label could hardly be called prolific. Three years in, they've released just six EPs, though each of those was something of a gem, with multiple calls for represses. The latest White Material offering throws the spotlight on one of the collective's lesser heralded names in Alvin Aronson. Like much techno coming out of The Big Apple right now, Aronson seems inspired by the dual delights of bleak, industrial-influenced bangers, and more atmospheric, IDM and ambient influenced fare. Over the course of six tracks, he explores both thoroughly here, moving from the crystalline ambience of opener "Aevus", and eyes-closed electronica of "Fog City", to the metallic hits, buzzing electronics and hypnotic grooves of "Drone Techno" and "City 2".

Review: Having taken time out to deliver a range of home listening releases under the Road Hog alias, Galcher Lustwerk is back to doing what he does best: lo-fi deep house workouts with plenty of added fuzz. Dark Bliss is, of course, his debut album, and happily it's a rather strong collection of cuts that's arguably more aurally attractive than many of his releases. Highlights include the lo-fi Balearic deep house warmth of "What U Want Me To Do" (which, intriguingly, features his own Mr V style half-spoken, half-sung vocals), the chunky-but-dreamy dub house positivity of "Yeeno", the spacey synths and bustling drum machine beats of alien-sounding workout "Lithuanian Water" and the subtle ghetto-house and Seven Davis Jr influences of glassy-eyed peak-time treat "Red Rose".

Review: To date, cult 'working man's techno' label White Material has given Young Male, DJ Richard, and Galcher Lustwerk the chance to shine on their own 12" but they've long promised to provide a platform for further members of the collective to show what they are capable of. Having previously contributed one of the tracks on the fourth White Material release, Morgan Louis steps up to deliver his formal debut which features four productions and three B-side loops. While undeniably deep, the EP touches on a number of techno styles, from the melodious, atmospheric and metronomic title track, to the paranoid creepiness and rolling rhythms of "Donnoo". Arguably best of all, though, is "3Sex", a chunk of almost claustrophobic minimal techno full of barely audible voices and dusty textures.

  3. Drug Deal Videos (6:21)
Review: Back in 2012, Young Male had the honour of serving up the first release on White Material, the hyped imprint he runs with DJ Richard. Surprisingly, this is his first solo effort on the label since. Opener "Hot For Destiny & The Street" is a surging, forthright affair, with clandestine, pitched-down spoken word vocals occasionally making their presence felt over a distorted, no-holds-barred techno groove. "Grey Gotham" is an altogether darker and moodier affair, with horror-influenced chords and pulsating electronic surges wrapping themselves around a deeper techno rhythm, while "Drug Deal Video" hustles and throbs to the sounds of drum machine handclaps, spacey synthesizer chords and intricate cymbal patterns.
