Soft Focus EP (feat Gasometric Run remix) (140 gram vinyl 12" + insert)
Cat: WSR 003. Rel: 11 Jun 18
Techno
  1. Echo Chamber
  2. Set Point
  3. Soft Focus
  4. Soft Focus (Gasometric Run remix)
Review: Well Street have been mightily impressive with their first two releases, presenting relatively unknown artists exploring some fertile liminal zones between deep techno, broken beat, ambient and many other shards of on point electronic music. Robert Fleck is now drafted in for the third release, making a debut appearance with a sound that further shapes out the vision of the label. "Echo Chamber" unsurprisingly deals in dubby textures, taking classic dub techno chords and matching them with delicate, crafty percussive flex outs. "Set Point" follows a similar path, but with a more delineated 4/4 backbone to the track that emphasies Fleck's techno tendencies. "Soft Focus" heads in a more UK-minded direction, using ample space and snagging beats with poised touches of Reese-ish sub bass without ever over-cooking the broth. Gasometric Run then comes on board to remix "Soft Focus," channeling Rhythm & Sound loud and proud to create a wonderful slice of ambient dub techno.

Stepping Back EP (140 gram vinyl 12" limited to 200 copies)
Cat: WSR 001. Rel: 03 Apr 17
Techno
  1. Moon GZ (7:26)
  2. Ocean Drums (4:56)
  3. Stepping Back (6:58)
  4. You Wouldn't Understand (6:09)
Review: Hailing from East London but otherwise shrouded in mystery, Loop LF makes a strong first appearance with this opening gambit for Well Street Records. There's a diverse array of sounds presented across this 12", with the intricate minimalisms of "Moon GZ" matching glitchy percussion with ethereal pad tones to great effect before "Ocean Drums" opens the sound out into a broader, fuller broken beat context. "Stepping Back" is an audacious production that makes full use of the space between the drum hits before "You Wouldn't Understand" heads into an overtly reduced, dubstep-minded headspace perfect for all lovers of the original FWD vibe in a modern setting.

Carousel EP (140 gram vinyl 12" + insert)
Cat: WSR RC1. Rel: 12 Nov 18
Techno
  1. Siren (7:03)
  2. Innocent (7:06)
  3. Carousel (6:42)
  4. Keeper (7:22)
Review: Irish producer Ruff Cherry has so far left a small trail of breadcrumbs for any seekers switched on enough to follow, from an early 12" on A Sagittariun's Elastic Dreams to a pair of singles on Midgar, but now the mysterious artist lands on the increasingly intriguing Well Street label and the results are fantastic. "Siren" is an ear-snagging trip through driving but non-standard beat formations shot through with a dubby melancholy, while "Innocent" heads into weirder territory with more audacious sound design and plenty of voluminous bass swells. "Carousel" keeps things fractured and bleepy, while "Keeper" focuses on tribal percussive intonations and a brooding atmosphere to get fully immersed in.
