Review: Last spotted on Warp on the inaugural volume of their Cargaa series in 2015, Nigga Fox returns to the UK institution with his debut label EP "Cranio". As always with the Lisbon underground kingpin, fusion and ardent experimentalism characterise the project as we're shifted and beguiled in equal measure at the rising paranoid acid tendrils on "Sinistro", the thumping obese kicks on "Poder Do Vento", the jarring techno necksnap of "Maria Costa", the lucid dreaminess of "KRK", the obscenely tripped-out voodoo instrumentation on "Waaba-Jah" and accordion squeezing technoid sketch "Karma". Singular.

  3. Lux 3
  4. Lux 4
Review: The godfather of electronics, Brian Eno makes a return to Warp Records. Lux, literally meaning "light", is a delicate assortment of subtle harmonics and chimerical programming. As with all of Mr.Eno's work, all of the elements seem to share an inseparable union with each other, one which manifests a specific concept. "Lux 1" is the sound of a new day, with its gentle notes playing over a majestic soundscape beneath it; whilst "Lux 2" enters more desolate grounds, where melodies are dissolved and remoulded to create a spine-chilling sea of sound. "Lux 3" is a similarly meditative musical zone, where notes remain deserted in a melancholic whirlpool of sub-drones; but "Lux 4" is the radiating light at the end of the tunnel - atmospheric and full of emotion.

  1. Reflection
Review: As one of the founding fathers of the ambient scene, any new beat-less missive from Brian Eno should be considered essential listening. It's years, though, since the ambient pioneer has put out something quite as mesmerizing as Reflection. As critics have pointed out, the single-track structure - think 54 minutes of mostly meditative bliss, with occasional darker moments, built around chiming notes that slowly shift and change shape as the piece progresses - recalls 1985's brilliant Thursday Afternoon. It feels more minimalist in outlook than other recent Eno projects, with the "generative" nature of the music (supplemented by an app that rearranges the music depending on the time of day you listen) recalling the musician's early academic approach. Either way, it's uttering beguiling.

Review: On the face of it, this full-length collaboration between ambient legend Brian Eno and Underworld's Karl Hyde is an enticing proposition. With the duo's respective track records, you'd expect Someday World to be a bit of a cracker. Somewhat surprisingly, it's not quite as stunning as you might expect but there are enough brilliant moments to warrant further investigation. Check, for example, the slowly building sci-fi jazz madness of "When I Built This All", the jaunty, off-kilter beauty of the Different Trains-inspired "Strip It Down" and the textured, shoegaze-tinged "To Us All"; all three are simply superb.

Review: Pitched somewhere between the gritty, propulsive beats of Los Angeles, and the exploratory jazz of Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus's fourth album, Until The Quiet Comes is arguably the most delicate record he's ever produced. Described as a "collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies", it steers away from bigger moments, choosing instead to present an understated patchwork of breezy jazz samples, dusty hip-hop beats smeared vocals seemingly inspired by DMT hallucinations. While previous efforts were wildly futuristic at times, Until The Quiet Comes is confidently classicist - and seals Flying Lotus's position as one of our generation's visionary producers.

Review: Arriving with some truly mind bending artwork from controversial guro manga artist Shintaro Kago, the new Flying Lotus album You're Dead! Is quite alot to take in upon first listen. Some nineteen tracks deep, Steven Ellison uses all the available space to draw you deep into the afterlife as he sees it, veering through heavily psychedelic jazz passages and next level beat explorations that demand you pay full attention. The iconic Herbie Hancock leads a high profile cast of contributing artists to Fly Lo's fifth studio LP and his most ambitious to date with Kendrick Lamar, Captain Murphy, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat and Niki Randa also adding to what is a transcendental listening experience.

  7. Physics For Everyone!
Review: After the "next level jazz shit" of Cosmogramma, you'd forgive Flying Lotus for a taking a time out and maybe hit some clubs in LA to find his next Brainfeeder signee. Instead he's spent the past few months scouring the inner workings of his clearly impressive musical brain to deliver Pattern & Grid World, seven tracks of expansive machine funk futurism. Commencing with the hazy mist of psychedelic soul synths flourishes and intricate beat patterns that is "Clay" Ellison demonstrates an ever increasing array of beat poetry. "Kill Your Co-Workers" marries tinny drum and bass programming with an ever expanding opulence of joyous melodies whilst "Pie Face" drops outer galactic grime syncopation over kaleidoscopic bass patterns. "Time Vampires" could soundtrack the astro travelling Lord Quas referred to on the classic Madlib album The Unseen whilst "Jurassic Notion/M Theory" splays wonked out afro percussion over belly level schizoid bass lines. The final rhythmic jolt of "Physics For Everyone" replete with head first plunges into industrial bass makes this a bewitching complement to Ellison's highly lauded album.

Review: London-based singer/producer Kwesi Sey has previously impressed with his woozy, dreamlike fusions of soft-centred soul and experimental electronica, releasing a string of acclaimed singles and EPs on Young Turks and Warp. Here, he delivers his debut album, an extended exploration of his fragile, dewy-eyed sound. It's an impressive set, slickly moving between string-laden lo-fi R&B ("Hives"), atmospheric experimentalism (the intense but beautiful "Chagall"), James Blake-ish eccentricity ("Parakeet") and leftfield dancefloor pressure ("B Shf L"). Kwes clearly has talent; on the strength of LLP, expect to hear much more from him in coming years.

Review: NYC songstress Lafawndah makes her big label debut on Warp with some killer jams produced by Night Slugs lynchpin Lvis 1990. "Town Crier" is bass driven urban dance with her sweet soaring vocals backed by stuttering and clattering industrial textures. "Ally" is a full frontal and funky bass assault with exotic middle eastern instrumentation infused throughout as she declares "I'll take you like in like a firefly". "Tan" is the most restrained and stripped effort on here, with massively reverberated drums carrying the track wonderfully while "Crumb" is the most chilled track: it's pop inflected and will take you on a journey with its immaculately programmed steel drums. Big things!

So far in 2014, other than Aphex Twin's Syro, the label has released music from Squarepusher, Oneohtrix Point Never and Jackson & His Computer Band to Plaid, Nightmares On Wax and Rustie - with another album by Clark forthcoming. Now one of Glasgow's most colourful producers (check out the cover art), Hudson Mohawke returns to home base with his first official release since the Satin Panthers EP. As usual there's a kaleidoscope of sounds to be heard on Chimes alongside hip hop beats, footwork skitters and gangster 'woof' vocals, and if "Joy Fantastic" from Butter is a Hud Mo fav, then "King Kong Beaver" should fill you with hope that a follow up LP is on the way.

Review: Following up the runaway success of Crooks & Lovers was always going to be a daunting task for Mount Kimbie, and they've wisely taken their time to come back with a step forwards from a sound which gave rise to the more folky strains of the dubstep aftermath. Sounding fresh and invigorated on their LP for Warp, Kai Campos and Dominic Maker have built on their love of shoegaze indie and brought their component parts into a clearer vision where they used to hide them behind heavy editing and microsampling. There are plenty of reminders that this is a Kimbie record, not least in the winsome melodies that shape the LP, but the duo have succeeded in shearing away their self-conscious trickery to write full-bodied songs that hit on first listen, rather than ten spins down the line.

Review: Since first emerging on Hotflush at the tail end of the last decade, Mount Kimbie has navigated the post-dubstep landscape better than almost any other act. It says something about their transformation into hard-to-define electronica heavyweights that Love What Survives, their third full-length and second for Warp manages to be both surprising (there are subtle nods towards titans of post-punk pop and rock, for starters) and exactly what you'd expect. They're masters of fusing disparate styles, sounds, textures and beat patterns into beautiful hybrid shapes, and this kind of 21st century fusion is evident throughout. Naturally, there are a few notable guest appearances dotted throughout, with James Blake's two contributions amongst the album's many highlights.

  3. You Took Your Time (Lee Gamble remix)
Review: Off the back of their blossoming indie-electronica sophomore LP Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, the Mount Kimbie duo undergoes the remix treatment from three well-equipped and idiosyncratic artists. First up Kyle Hall brings the Detroit grit but balances it with his sensitivity towards UK concerns for an uptempo and undeniably version of "You Took Your Time". DJ Koze brings a more tender kind of 4/4 full of esoteric melodic flourishes and the stark original vocal on "Made To Stray", and Lee Gamble rips it all up with his own aquatic blur of "You Took Your Time" that lets the drums fall muddily and the synths strain against a wall of sonic fluff, with fantastic end results.

Review: Having delivered a seventh studio album of a long and productive career as Nightmares On Wax last year, George Evelyn has been treated to the full retrospective programme by Warp in 2014. Earlier this year the label issued a best of, artfully punned NOW Is The Time, this week has seen Warp reissue in deluxe format all of Evelyn's six previous and widely loved long players. All of them are in stock at Juno and worthy of your time, though Carboot Soul is a particular favourite amongst the review team here. The Quincy Jones sample on opener "La Nuit" never sounded so good!

Review: This year marks three decades since George Evelyn sat down with original Nightmares on Wax production partner Kevin Harper to make music for the first time. In those days, Evelyn was focused just as much on house and techno as reggae, soul, jazz and hip-hop. You'd forgive Evelyn if he got a little misty-eyed on Shape The Future, but bar the appearance of his old Leeds pal LSK (a rapper who rose up at the same time as the Yorkshire veteran), its really business as usual. With an impressive cast list of guest stars swinging by to lend soulful vocals, on-point raps and high quality musicianship, the album is as colourful, laidback and groovy as anything Evelyn has released. Given his longevity, that's remarkable.

Review: The role Richard 'Nozinja' Mthetwa has played in the emergence of Sowetan music Shangaan Electro was first documented on that superb Honest Jon's compilation back in 2011. He is by all accounts a bit of a star so a round of applause to Warp for securing a fine album from Nozinja in the shape of Nozinja Lodge. Arriving soon after Mthewa collaborated with Tessela, this ten track album comes across as a slightly more polished take on the frenetic sound of Shangaan Electro, yet the core elements remain intact. High pitched vocals sourced from the community of Shangaan artists meet skipping lo-fi drum constructions and deliciously sweet melodies. An album to document and dominate the sunshine months.

Review: It would in no way be a bold statement to say that Oneohtrix Point Never is both one of the most interesting minds in the contemporary experimental music game and one of our very favourite electronic artists. His catalogue speaks for itself and this latest RSD release for the mighty Warp Records is just a taste of the man's diversity as a musician and sound manipulator. "Bullet Hell Abstraction I" is basically a hardcore metal track that has been processed and taken off course to become an ultra-fast-paced jungle missile, while "Bullet Hell Abstraction III" is all crystal drones and noisy bursts of ambience. On the flip, "Suite From Magnetic Rose" winds things down into an anthemic bundle of choral vocals and sci-fi electronics...a truly startling head-trip into the ether.

Review: Having firmly established himself as one of the foremost experimental producers of the past decade with albums like Replica, Returnal, and Rifts, Daniel Lopatin here makes the logical move to electronic music bastion Warp Records. On first listen R Plus Seven is quite unlike any of his other records, largely eschewing the arpeggiated drones of his early work and sample-based collages of his last album for something much more vivid. Coming across like a combination of the emotive minimalism of Terry Riley and Steve Reich, and the hyperreality of James Ferraro's Far Side Virtual, R Plus Seven nevertheless stakes its own claim in the world of post-everything electronic music, combining delicate, introspective moods with shocking moments of recognisable sonic signification. Quite possibly Lopatin's best album to date.
