  8. Love To Love You Baby (Anane Funky House mix) (4:37)
Review: Anane has become one of the most prominent vocalists in contemporary house music. She mixes up a rare skill with a real sense of glamour and diversity that has also lead her to singing the opening song "One Dream" at Super Bowl XLI with Louie Vega & their group Elements Of Life. Her deep afro house sound has grown ever more essential over the last 17 years and now this album transcends through her evolution of the artist and woman she is today. The double 12" features remixes from Louie Vega, Sebastien Grand, Alex Finkin and many more, which makes it a varied and vital affair.

  8. Sodade (Kazukuta remix) (5:07)
Review: Four seriously heavyweight cuts on this one, a various artists classic in the making from Pi Gao Movement. Lost Trax gets down and dingy with 'The Disruptor', a gurgling, menacing mid tempo cut with dystopian feels. Ultradyne's contribution is much more forward facing, with superb drum programming making for a frictionless broken beat groove that is run through with lithe synths. The machines cut loose on manic head wrecker 'Ultradyne' and last of all, 'Deconstructing The Immortals' sounds like the sort of tech Kraftwerk might make if they were now globe trotting DJs.

  6. Elements Of Life (feat Blaze - Joe Claussell reprise dub) (8:19)
  7. Sunshine (instrumental) (4:34)
Review: Earlier this year, Louie Vega decided to offer up a new edition of 2003 album "Elements of Life" - his first with the now familiar NYC collective he founded of the same name - featuring re-mastered original tracks and a handful of new remixes. There's much to enjoy on this second and final vinyl double-pack, which largely focuses on the original album's more Latin-themed tracks. Highlights include the Latin house breeziness of Blaze hook-up "Brand New Day", the epic mambo/Latin jazz suite that stretches across side two, a deliciously warm, deep, hazy and soulful Joe Clausell "Reprise Dub" mix of "Elements of Life", and the salsa-tastic summer breeze that is closing cut "Sunshine (Instrumental)".

Wake Me: Louie Vega & Joe Claussell Remix
Wake Me: Louie Vega & Joe Claussell Remix (12" repress) (1 per customer)
Cat: VR 204. Rel: 05 Feb 21
Funky/Club House
  1. Wake Me (Louie Vega & Joe Claussell remix) (8:30)
  2. Wake Me (Louie Vega & Joe Claussell remix instrumental) (8:28)
Review: Louie Vega & Joe Claussell together on one EP sure is a thing that's gigs to get house lovers excited. Both are bona fide legends who have very much helped to define their own unique musical niches within the house spectrum and find a real sweet spot here as they tackle Incongnito's 'Wake Me.' The eight minute-plus a-side is all about a dreamy trumpet lead that drifts up top, going into focus before melting away while rubbery drums roll beans with nice organic percussion and warming chords that are all set alight by a superbly soulful vocal. Flip it over for the instrumental, which is just as good.

  7. Woman (Frankie C Brazilian main mix) (5:54)
  8. Woman (Frankie C main mix) (5:57)
Review: Here's something to get the juices flowing: a killer, dancefloor-friendly cover version of Barrabas's 1972 funk-rock classic 'Woman' by salsa singer George LaMond, legendary producer Louie Vega, and the latter's expansive Elements of Life band. Vega's EP-leading 'Main Mix' is a richly percussive, 11-minute fusion of Latin disco and funk rock topped off with clipped guitar riffs, heavy organ chords and a killer lead vocal from LaMond. Vega provides numerous remixes himself, including an extra-percussive rhythm track ('Quintero Beats') and a salsa-inspired "Latin Soul Mix" that's almost as essential as the main version. Elsewhere, old pal David Morales provides a breezy salsa house remix and an organ-heavy dub, while Frankie C's "Brazilian Mix" is a carnival-friendly affair that's seriously infectious and life-affirming.
