Review: The East Coast's house don DJ Jus-Ed is, as always, on an unstoppable run of form. His latest bundle of club-friendly tunes comes on his own Underground Quality, of course, and it's four tracks from the man himself - preaching the gospel like only he knows how! Starting with "Acid Fro", the mood is darker and more hypnotic than his usual approach - this is a proper belter in every sense of the word - while "Ice 597 To Frankfurt" is more minimal, wavey and utterly pouncing. Flip the record and you got the melancholic melodica of "Katzback Gruv", another stomping club affair for the earlier set times, and "Train Ride To Berlin", a jittery, percussion-driven bit of neo-tribalism. Hot, as always. Don't miss this!

Review: Jus Ed is in introspective mood on his latest full-length excursion into atmospheric deep house pastures. As the title suggests, it finds him musing - quite literally, given that he speaks over many of the tracks - on his role as a father and whether he's a good role model to his offspring. It's heartfelt stuff, without being overbearing or sickly-sweet, and sits nicely with the warm, rich, melodic and occasionally off-kilter deep house grooves that provide the headline attraction. While Father Feelings should perhaps be considered one CD-length concept piece, there are still notable highlights, with the Latin-tinged, string-laden rush of "Celebration of Sound" and late night, sub-heavy pulse of "Love Pressure" standing out.

Review: Ed's back: Jus Ed that is! The Underground Quality boss and Connecticut's finest serves up some deep and emotive house done good and proper on his new opus Jus Nomaly 2. It's a collection of all things soulful. lo-fi and above all: deep! Starting off with the tough dark house of "Benny's Dump Run" which would definitely make his buddy DJ Qu proud, it gets more ethereal and spiritual on the entrancing "Adams Street 78", but things take a turn for the acid techno variety on the gutsy and intense soul searcher "The Phone Call". "Step In The Right Direction" gives its nod to the blueprint sounds of Detroit on this sublime serving of hi-tech soul circa 1988. Following up some great releases by Howie B, Terry Tester and B from E, the label head honcho himself shows us how its done on this great full length exploring a variety of moods and grooves.

Review: Underground Quality boss Jus Ed is beginning 2017 in fine fettle, with Transition - his first album since 2014 - heading up a spate of vinyl releases. The triple-vinyl set is full of evocative, immaculately produced deep house treats, from the Alton Miller style intricacy of "The Loop 222 Bodin Strasse" and shuffling, yearning "The Day Prince Died", to the rich bass and dancing drum machine hits of "Medellin My New Grooveland" (inspired, apparently, by a recent trip to Colombia), and the low-slung, Motor City grooves of "Sci-Fi Connection". Best of all, though, is the rushing positivity of "Spring is Near", where intertwining synth lines bubble away over a fizzing, techno-influenced rhythm track.

  2. 2400 Operator - "NWS PT 1" (feat Rev S)
  3. DJ Jus Ed - "Let's Groove" (beats)
  4. DJ Jus Ed - "Let's Groove" (Medley mix)
Review: Jus Ed gets another slew of like-minded deep house heads together for the latest double-pack venture from Underground Quality. Samuel Andre Madison dominates the first disc with his Rev S moniker serving up a thoroughly bumpy jam anchored by an almighty kick on "This Thing", while he appears on 2400 Operator's more shuffling but equally mellow "NWS PT 1". Ed himself takes care of disc two with the smacking "beats" cut of "Let's Groove", which features some walloping drums off-set by tasty filtered synths in that plain and simple Jus Ed style. The "Medley" mix on the other hand features a bizarre reprisal of "I'm Coming" amongst other elements over the same "Let's Groove" track. Highly recommended.

  4. Phat Harp Ban (5:47)
Review: UK trip hop legend Howie B teaming up with the Jersey deep house don Jus Ed? You better believe it! According to Howie B himself, who proudly declared on his Facebook page "The theme is cinema. The mood is deep." Cinetrax Vol. 1 is the first part of three 12"s which will be presented for the project. The slow grinding electro pop of "Salty Dance" is something that you could have imagined Ryan Gosling cruising the streets of DTLA after midnight in Drive, while "The Breach" does have cinematic aspects about it, in a way, but sounds more like an early Robert Hood track on -8; we really liked this bleepy and cyclical excursion in minimalism. On the flip "The Essence Of New" fuels some exotic daydream fantasies with its chilled and atmospheric beats while "Phat Harp Ban" is a darkly aquatic smack electro number, that brings to mind that epic underwater bank heist in scene in Sexy Beast.

Review: The first two Jus-Ed curated mix CDs from Berlin's Tape club are now stuff of legend, and in May 2011 the Underground Quality don returned to Germany for a mid week night of nothin' but the finest house jams. On this occasion the Bridgeport don was joined by Panorama Bar resident Steffi and Virginia (who provided a couple of memorable vocal turns on Steffi's recent album), and the results were recorded and put on this here CD. No casing on this, just a basic white pouch - raw packaging for some raw tunes!

Review: Oh yes! Our main man DJ Jus' Ed teams up with the legendary Move D (Workshop, Magic Mountain High etc, etc, etc) for a new collaborative effort on his always on-point Underground Quality, home to artists such as Fred P, Levon Vincent and Juniper. There's a whopping four cuts on here and our picks of the bunch have to be "From Bridgeport To Heidelberg" - for that winding melody and gritty percussion flex - and "Hustler Suite", a bass-heavy deep house roller for you to meditate on. This is yet another Underground Quality gem.

Review: Despite making her name in the minimal techno scene, German producer Dana Ruh has recently moved further towards deep house territory. Here she completes the switch with a sumptuous, sinewy debut album for Jus-Ed's Underground Quality imprint. Naturally sees the Berlin-based producer effortlessly move through a range of deep, dreamy and groovy cuts, most of which are rooted in Chez and Trent style analogue deepness. Highlights are plentiful, from the loose and sweet bump of "Just Don't" and smooth "Train Ride To You", to the acid-flecked New Jersey chunkiness of "Don't You Find Me". There are nods to her minimal past - check the deep tech-house shuffle of "Dirty Egg" - but for the most part it's a warm and sensual affair.

  4. Chasing The Sun (6:06)
Review: Julius Steinhoff and Just Von Ahlefeld have always been favourites of ours when it comes to deep house. Their Smallpeople project has been subject to much approval here at Juno HQ, and their records have consistently flown off our shelves over the past five years. Originally released on UQ back in 2010 as The People 12", this classy slab from Steinhoff and Von Ahlefeld is given a timely repress under the new title The Artist's Smallpeople Repping Hamburg! "Pandi Moon" provides the charm and soul through its neat melodic drifts, and "Kind Of Green" completes the A-side with deep and luscious chords for the small hours. Flip the wax and you'll find the harder, bumpier house pumper that is "The People", followed by our favourite of the lot, the banging and shuffled-out twister named "Chasing The Sun".
