Review: Fledgling British label Tusk Wax drops the limited hand-number and hand-stamped Causa 12". Synth play is heavy in this EP, similar to what you could expect from Legowelt. "2930" pitches Tangerine Dream subtleties with fluctuating LFOs and synth bubbles while Chamboche's mix gives "2930" a more decipherable beat, which caters for the peak time dance floor. "Heliopolis" showcases all the hallmarks of a retrospective synth pop instrumental while "Nicho" drops the BPM count, employing balearic piano melodies and drumming bass pulses. For fans of Alexander Robotnik and the Hague sound, look no further.

Chamboche - "Hypnoquest"
Johnwaynes - "Brotha"
Lord Of The Isles - "Fresh For You"
Jose Manuel - "Sacramento" (Ilya Santana remix)
Review: Not even two months have passed since label Tusk Wax released their debut EP, Tusk Wax One, so we were surprised and delight in equal measure when the second volume landed on our laps. It's another four track, limited edition vinyl, with Juno Plus 'ones to watch' alumni Chamboche opening proceedings, bridging the gap between traditional disco and modern house on "Hypnoquest". Next up, John Waynes, bass-heavy "Brotha" works a menacing electronic key sequence dappled with breathy flute and a spoken vocal for a hooky electro-ish house number. On the flip you'll find Lord Of The Isles, who takes us on a funky and sultry spoken word trip with "Fresh For You" before Jose Man invites Ilya Santana to remix "Sacramento" to close out the EP. Vintage disco at its best, "Sacramento" shoots cosmic sirens, soaring string sections and hosts a playground of synths. Top release.

Juno How I Feel
Hacid
Review: Be it Tusk Wax, Horn Wax or Porn Wax, the collective of labels continues to develop into one you willingly place your trust in safe in the knowledge the standard of music will be optimum regardless of genre or contributor. Tusk Wax Thirteen sees the label debut of Clouded Vision co-founder Steve Cook who is perhaps the lesser celebrated producer than his Clouded Vision cohort and part time hair model Matt Walsh. However the four tracks here demonstrate perfectly Cook's capacity to craft thick, analogue house music of various shades and tempos yet all primed for the dancefloor. "Self Control" and "Still Hardcore" are the sort of languid, spacious acid cuts Weatherall would open a set with, whilst "Juno How I Feel" is wonderfully ascendant in its execution. The effervescent "Hacid" is the B Side most selectors will pull for, with a restrained acid line that complements the heavenly chords to a tee.

Ejeca - "Tetra"
Chamboche - "Mi Senti"
Zoo Look - "Stab Game"
Mann Made Music - "I Choose You Hutch"
Review: Brand spanking new UK label Tusk Wax debuts with a limited vinyl-only four track sampler. There's a scarcity of information around on the new imprint other than that they are "disco inclined" and boast a roster full of exciting new talent. "Tetra" from Ejeca is a cosmic house/disco driven track with vocal riff, disco sirens and a luscious meandering lower end. "Mi Senti" is up next from Nottingham's finest and Juno Plus one to watch alumni Chamboche; warm, percussive and with a piercing arp'd synth it's the definite floor shaker of the bunch. On the flip, Zoo Look's deep and housey "Stab Game" glides through heavenly reverbed chords and a subtle drum platform. Finally, "I Choose You Hutch" by Mann Made Music is dubby, low slung and divine with a prowling bass, ascending drive and old school vibes.

Futuro Perfecto
Review: We've been staunch fans of the superbly monikered Franz Underwear ever since the Berlin dwelling Italian appeared on the first World Unknown release a few years back. He returns with a full 12" release on the irrepressible Tusk Wax operation, having debuted with a one track contribution to the label's early output. "Fluxux" is vintage Underwear tackle, expertly bleeding the DNA of various elements of 80s movements into one fluid, liquefied electronic house chug and is graced by a subsequent dubbed out remix from fellow World Unknown alumni Kalidasa which will probably tickle Weatherall's pickle. Thick EBM rushes filter through "Futuro Perfecto" whilst "Aero" has a sick dark wave Hi NRG vibe to it - kind of like Patrick Cowley remixing New Order.

Molly Cules (Kalidasa Spectrum Of Love mix)
Review: Former World Unknown and Magic Feet contributor Kalidasa steps up for duty on the Tusk Wax label. Usual rules apply: strictly limited 180g 12" vinyl, hand stamped, individually numbered, no digital. Kalidasa reveals himself to be on a par with President of Chug Prins Thomas across the four sprawling slabs of psychedelic electronic disco here. Hard to choose one track over another but the 'Spectrum of Love Mix' of Molly Cules really hits the spot.

Tipping the Gulf (Jamie Blanco remix)
Beholden (part 1)
Review: After appearances in the last 12 months across World Unknown, Let's Play House, Endless Flight and Futureboogie, Geordie trouble starters Last Waltz add Tusk Wax to their canon of labels with the first of two releases. The usual hand stamped, individually numbered, weighty 180g vinyl factors are present and correct yet there's still room for the concluding chapter in the sleeve. The thrusting, lusting "Glamour Things" isn't shy, pairing motorboat arpeggios with satisfyingly weighty drums, whilst the detuned "Tipping the Gulf" tumbles along with a certain lopsided glee. An accompanying Jamie Blanco remix ramps up the original's lead synths with decidedly epic cosmic results, whilst "Beholden (Part 1)" sees Last Waltz play with the work of Foals in calming, cosmic fashion.

Obssesion
Review: Having firmly established themselves in the affections of the vinyl buying public, the ever expanding Tusk Wax operation don't rest on their laurels with this eighth release. The mysterious Jose Manuel - we presume an established producer operating under a pseudonym - is at the controls, and the Latin name should inform you with regards to the style within. The two A Side tracks from Manuel are essentially flamenco centric Balearica driven by strident mid tempo grooves - sort of like Quiet Village decamping to Sintra, Portugal and getting inspired by their mystical surrounds - while murky B Side jam "Obsession" is something altogether different. North East troupe Last Waltz step up to remix this latter track, invoking the spirit of John Carpenter with aplomb. Kudos to Tusk Wax for looking to expand on their sound!

Sitting To Win
Review: limited 12" 180g records, single press, individually numbered, no repress, no digital with reDICKulous artwork hand 'crafted' by the man behind the label.
Tusk says, "The title track from TW15 was conceived after a particular heavy Tusk Wax label party at Renate in Berlin. I went back to my old pal PORK INTL's place for a bit of drunk studio time and told him all about the living legend that is Gizzy the Fox. A couple of bottles of wine later and I was telling the story to a microphone and we were writing an oddity of a track. If you have had the pleasure to meet Gizzy and spend time in Renate you might understand the lyrics, if not, they'll probably just sound like the rantings of a drunk man, funny that."

You Are The On (8:30)
Young Narcos (5:04)
You Are The One (Mugwump & DC Salas remix) (9:58)
You Are The One (Voxapella) (2:51)
Review: The Tusk Wax crew welcome Ruf Dug and Marcel Vogel to the fold for a right royal hoedown of seedy late night house music machinations. "You Are The One" rides on a bloated bassline and ethereal pads while a guttural vocal chants out the title, making all your sleazy dancefloor dreams come true. "Young Narcos" is a much lighter affair, lacing smooth 80s island boogie into a contemporary setting for an exercise in loose limbed liquid funk. Mugwump & DC Salas come correct on the remix tip, beefing "You Are The One" up into a snarling, acidic romper, and there's also a "Voxapella" of the track slipped on the end of the record for creative mixing delights.

Maybe You're Awake
The Sun Came Out Last Night
Review: Disco doesn't get any deeper than this: Tim Waine makes his debut on the mighty Tusk with "No Hats", a purring, sludgy stomper that ripples and flutters with the majesty of a Prins Thomas joint. Slowly morphing with a mischievous sense of psychedelia, it's a stone-cold beauty. Need to dive deeper? Jump straight onto the self-explanatory Seahawks' remix. For those who love to plunder even deeper into the dubby depths, then "The Sun Came Out Last Night" and "Maybe You're Awake" are tailor made for you...Spacious beats, distant guitar trembles and lapping analogue textures, they're the ultimate audio floatation tank.
