  3. Play (Superlover remix) (5:46)
  4. Body Funk (Carl Cox remix) (6:25)
Review: In honour of Record Store Day 2019, Sweat It Out has pressed up this vibrantly coloured 12" featuring reworks of tracks from Purple Disco Machine's 2017 debut album, "Soulmatic". It's a formidably floor-friendly affair all told. David Penn kicks things off with an unflinchingly heavy version of "Music In You" - all sweeping orchestral breakdowns, mesmerizing vocoder vocals, short piano loops and thunderous house beats - while funky house pioneer Mousse T offers up a suitably elastic and rubbery disco-house version of "Encore". Over on the flipside, Superlover goes all "French touch" on a Cassius/early Daft Punk style version of "Play" (itself a cover of Planet Patrol's electro-era classic "Play At Your Own Risk) before Carl Cox offers up a bouncy, electrofunk-meets-techno take on "Body Funk" that's propelled forwards by restless drum machine cowbells.

  1. Devil In Me (extended mix) (6:23)
  2. Devil In Me (PDM club dub mix) (6:22)
  3. Devil In Me (Fatboy Slim remix) (5:38)
Review: Leipzig based Purple Disco Machine is up next on Australian dance-pop label Sweat It Out: carrying on the legacy of the beloved and legendary DJ Ajax who passed away back in 2014. Real name Tino Piontek, he's had a successful run of releases: appearing everywhere from OFF to Nurvous and even main room specialists Defected. Featuring the fine vocal talents of the one and only Duane Harden (who appeared on such classics as "You Don't Know Me" by Armand Van Helden) and Joe Killington of The Funktuary. An unholy mixture of bluesy country-inflected '70s rock and funky house. And let's not ignore the elephant in the room here: yes there is an absolutely jumping remix by UK big beat hero Fatboy Slim: and he's in top form as always with his party starting rendition.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Love For Days (Kenny Dope remix) (7:47)
  2. Love For Days (PDM extended mix) (5:20)
  3. Love For Days (Motez remix) (5:34)
Review: Given the serious disco-house credentials of '90s survivor Boris Dlugosch and contemporary nu-disco chops of hyped outfit Purple Disco Machine, you'd expect "Love For Days" to be pretty darn hot. It is, of course, with Purple Disco Machine's extended mix - nestled on the B-side - offering the perfect mixture of strong diva vocals (provided by Karen Harding), sweeping disco orchestration and modern disco-house trickery. Arguably the best version, though, comes from Masters at Work legend Kenny Dope, whose fluid rework utilizes looser, live-sounding percussion, far more orchestration and all manner of original disco-era references. Motez completely flips the script on B2, serving up a skipping, Champagne sipping version that brilliantly joins the dots between disco and two-step UK garage.

  11. Imaginary Air (6:50)
Review: It's been five years since Aussie indie-dance three piece Rufus raced to the top of the Australian album charts with their critically acclaimed debut album, Atlas. Here the album gets a fifth-anniversary vinyl repress. The track list remains the same, allowing newcomers a chance to bask in the riff-heavy, dewy-eyed bounce of "Sundream", the Balearic synth-pop cheeriness of "Tonight" and the slowly building, piano-laden shuffle of album standout "Rendezvous". Elsewhere, the heartfelt, deep synth-pop dreaminess of "Desert Night" and sun-bright rush of "Simplicity is Bliss" are also worth checking. In other words, it's a dreamy, melodious and attractive collection of electronic pop songs informed by nu-disco and soft focus house.

Review: Aussie dance pop trio Rufus released their acclaimed sophomore effort the Bloom LP on hometown imprint Sweat It Out! back in 2016. The Sydney based outfit comprised of Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist and James Hunt have gone on to critical success in the last few years, headlining concerts and festivals across the globe with their distinct brand of live EDM that borrows equally from deep house and nu-disco as it does from contemporary pop. Previously only available in their homeland, it now receives a global release. Featuring the singles "You Were Right" and "Like An Animal!" not to mention the heartfelt epic that is "Innerbloom," and the uplifting melody of "Say A Prayer For Me".

Review: Australian duo Yolanda Be Cool are back. The outfit behind the worldwide smash hit "We No Speak Americano" with DCUP in 2010 hail from Sydney, and are comprised of Sylvester Martinez and Johnson Peterson. They are back on local label Sweat It Out, an imprint that they have been stalwarts of for the last decade, in addition to releases for Dim Mak and Nurvous. "Musika" is a melodic and emotive deep house jam on an Afro and 'techy' tip - which will appeal to fans of the Innervisions sound. There are some great remixes too: Babert (Disco Revenge) delivers a very retro Italo house rendition, while Los Angeles based DJ Dateless goes for a classic '90s house perspective that dives deep.
