Catch Me
Catch Me (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SHAKE 006. Rel: 16 Sep 19
  1. Catch Me (6:21)
  2. Can't Stop This Groove (6:44)
  3. Dirtydrum 01 (5:43)
Review: Dirty Channels have thrown down heated house cuts for the past decade on labels like Ovum, Abstract Theory and Athens Of The North. Now they've been tapped up by Dan Shake to deliver three seriously powerful house cuts loaded with the sample-loving soul sound you'd expect from Shake's label. "Catch Me" is a fiery number that places the diva front and centre, rides the EQ and gets busy with the loops like it ain't no thing. "Can't Stop This Groove" rides a relentless lick and jacks it up with sharp drum machine hats, and "Dirtydrum 01" gets the 909 thump out front for a fierce and fabulous DJ tool.

Cat: SHAKETAPES 003. Rel: 11 Sep 17
  1. La Descarga Del Bobo (Dan Shake cut) (7:49)
  2. Sixty-Two Fifty (Dan Shake cut) (5:12)
  3. De I Comahlee Ah (Dan Shake cut) (7:42)
  4. Nobu (Nntblst remix) (7:23)
Review: Dan Shake's Shake Tapes project just keeps on coming with the good stuff, each installment broadening the scope of just what this multifarious DJ and producer is capable of. This time around there's heated, salsa soaked jazz to be enjoyed on "La Descarga Del Bobo", while "Sixty-Two Fifty" twists off into bugged out jazz funk territory. "De I Comahlee Ah" is a rough and red-lining piece of party jazz, and "Nobu" finishes the EP off with a surprisingly tech-injected kind of, you guessed it, jazz. Whatever your preference as far as jazzy sounds, there's something for everyone on this 12".

  1. Celebration Suite (Dan Shake cut)
  2. La Vem Salgueiro (Dan Shake cut)
  3. Rico Suave Bossa Nova (Dan Shake cut)
Review: Dan Shake has been making a sterling name for himself as a DJ with many strings to his bow, and now he's launching an exciting new label with a focus on edits that reach into his bag of tricks and provide some genuinely intriguing alternatives to the usual rehashed disco fodder. On this first 12" there's a distinctly Latin theme, not least on "Celebration Suite" which launches into a bona fide party classic after a hailstorm of drumming and carnival whistles. "La Vem Salguiero" is equally boisterous, but there's also "Rico Suave Bossa Nova" to cool things down for those more loungey moments.

Cat: SHAKETAPES 002. Rel: 15 Aug 17
  1. Fantasy (Dan Shake cut)
  2. Gimme Somme (Dan Shake cut)
  3. Magic Carpet (Dan Shake cut)
Review: After a storming first installment, Dan Shake is back with another volume of his Shake Tapes, presenting his unique taste for disco, funk and other such obscurities in the form of thoroughly respectful edits. "Fantasy" is an impassioned, lively slice of uptempo disco funk the practically springs out of the speakers with its powerful brass section and sweet soul vocals. "Gimme Some" cools down to an easier pace, but there's no less funk packed into this classic party starter. On the B-side, "Magic Carpet" gets a little more treatment in terms of delay touches and looped up sections that stretch out this dreamy slice of disco funk.

Volume 4 (feat Dan Shake cut, Jamie 3:26 Edit & Keith Lorraine repercussion)
Cat: SHAKETAPES 004. Rel: 19 Feb 18
  1. I'm A Big Freak (Dan Shake cut) (8:59)
  2. It's Like That (Dan Shake) (5:10)
  3. Were You Ready For That (Jamie 3:26 edit) (6:20)
  4. Autodrive (Keith Lorraine Repercussion) (5:43)
Review: That Shake Tapes heat keeps on coming from Dan Shake's idiosyncratic corner of the groove, and this time he's not the only one causing mischief all over the platter. The record kicks off with a deadly, bubbling lick of Phreek's cheeky wigged out disco burner, "I'm A Big Freak," banged to rights by Shake himself, and he's also at the rains for the soulful strut of "It's Like That". Jamie 3:26 slam dunks a fireball of fierce, stomping disco at its loudest and proudest with "Were You Ready For That", and then Keith Lorraine fires off a masterful blitz of dubbed-out tough 80s grooves on "Autodrive".

  1. You Make Me Hot (Dan Shake cut)
  2. Body Oil (Dan Shake cut)
  3. You (Dan Shake cut)
Review: The Shake Tapes series continues to feed us righteous party fuel for discerning disco souls to get busy with. While the style can be wide-ranging from one record to the next, there's no time needed to get your head around "You Make Me Hot," a sizzling edit dripping with uplifting, uptempo brass and swooning strings. "Body Oil" is equally upfront, sure to incite all manner of heated displays of passion on the floor. "You" takes things further out into a synth-laced cosmic thrill ride that wriggles all the way across the B side, making this the most immediate Shake Tapes 12" to date.

Freak (limited 180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SHAKE 005. Rel: 23 Apr 19
  1. Freak (8:35)
  2. Can't Take It (6:59)
Review: Dan Shake is on a one-man mission to keep the party vibrant and interesting without losing that all-important impulse to move. His buy on sight Shake label fires up once more with two fine-tuned heaters that have the peak of the night in their sights and a shot of pure disco coursing through their veins. "Freak" takes its cues from 80s electronic disco embellished with a little acid magic and some serious heft in the production department to create a strutting, sassy party monster. "Can't Take It" finds Shake in filter sweeping sample mode, taking a massive disco sample and strapping it to a rowdy, fist-pumping house undercarriage. This record is set to be huge this summer, no doubt about it.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Claudia’s Trip (6:51)
  2. Claudia’s Trip (radio Slave J.A.W.K.F.C remix) (6:22)
Review: From his turns on Mahogani Music and Delusions Of Grandeur to his own Shake label, Dan Shake is proving to be a formidable force in British dance music right now. With a sample heavy approach and a fearless instinct for confrontational fun in his productions, he returns to his imprint with a sure shot slice of acidic excitement. "Claudia's Trip" is a rowdy jam that flings recognisable licks from perennial hits around the mix until a monster 303 line takes the lead. In hammering home the point about the size of the track, he's opted to just sign a sole remix on the flip, and tapped up Radio Slave to deliver the goods. Matt Edwards opts for a minimalist approach to contrast with the original, making a jerky club wrecker in the process.

Deep House
  1. Aiye Le (feat Dele Sosimi)
  2. Aiye Le (Dan Shake remix)
Review: XOA is an exciting new project fusing sounds from the golden era of '70s Afrobeat with contemporary electronica and modern production. The debut release AIYE LE, features the vocals of former Fela Kuti musical director and afrobeat royalty Dele Sosimi. Label boss Dan Shake steps up for the remix on the B side, bringing his signature Detroit house aesthetic.
