Review: Long regarded as royalty amongst his fellow Amsterdam dwelling peers, this intriguing prelude to San Proper's debut long player for Rush Hour sees Chilean producer supreme Ricky Villalobos called on to rework the title track in his inimitable style. The mere fact of Villalobos appearing on a Rush Hour twelve is further evidence of the label's growing status, and the two tracks here are allegedly the results of three days of San and Ricardo locked in the latter's Berlin studio. At 14 minutes and then some, the A Side "Animal In Dub" is as sparse and tripped out as you'd expect from Villalobos, and is perhaps his best dub techno arrangement in some time - expertly weaving a twisted treatment of San Proper's grunting tones around a cascading groove that descends ad infinitum. This mind bending exercise is complemented by a shorter, floor friendly "Animal In Club" version which in truth retains just as much fully dosed up capacity to drag you down your own particular worm hole as the A Side. An inspired twelve inch pairing!

Review: Lifted from his Animal album of last year, San Proper serves up a limited white label of "Auto Sea" through his regular home at Rush Hour. The original is a simmering beast, working around a subtle arpeggio and atmospheric scrapes for rhythm, of course with plenty of San Proper's off-beat vocals. The flip-side is given over to Proper's own "RVSP version" which gets well and truly stuck into a dubbed out version with a touch more beat for the floor and plenty of technoid hypnosis at work in that looping melodic phrase - might the RV stand for Ricardo Villalobos? It's a worthy one off twelve giving you a fresh perspective on a track that might otherwise have lingered unnoticed in amongst the album it came from.

Over the last ten years he has been spinning in all the major clubs, bars and lounges, in and around Holland. He's very known and praised for his house and disco sets, but also for blending a lot of different styles into an eclectic mix. On this, the first part, he collaborates with Steven De Peven (the driving force behind Rednose Distrikt) Together they've created three variations of a deep and steamy mid tempo house track. Tested and approved on the dancefloors of Amsterdam!

San is well known and praised for his house and disco sets as well as for blending a lot of different styles into an eclectic mix. On this 12", the second in the series, he collaborates with Tom Trago, who produced the well received "Live With The BBQ". They've created two mid tempo house burners, just the way we like them. While "Caterpillar Blues" is a upbeat discofied love affair, "Love Flue" is a haunting afro-disco flavoured groove. Thank you very much!
