Review: Super Spicy is a new Mexican label committing some serious heaters to wax. Helmed by Monsieur Von Pratt, the label boss himself sets the tone with opening track 'Forever Funk' on this various artists 12". The vibe is clear from the outset - classic disco-flavoured house music with oodles of soul and good vibes by the bucketload. Igor Gonya & Crack D get busy with the filters on 'Two-Piece Orchestra' and The Funk District take a more delicate edit approach to stomping peak-time burner 'Watcha Gonna Do'. Paul Older's 'Love' is the perfect swooning closer to the record, romantic and triumphant in equal measure for a proper hand-waving release of energy.

Review: Having previously self-released his music online, Adam London AKA Bedroom has finally found a home to showcase his particular brand of immersive, slow-burning ambient music - albeit via a release of which only 100 copies are available worldwide. While this means you'll have to be fast to secure a copy, we'd recommend making the investment. The Chicago-based producer's work is fluid, warm, dreamy and drifting, with his extensive use of glistening, reverb-laden electric guitar solos, opaque chords and other 'traditional' acoustic instruments - there's occasional and well-placed piano, cello, viola and violin - recalling the work of Jonny Nash and the superb Music From Memory label. While London's work has its own distinct flavour, it paddles in similarly sunset-ready waters - and is every bit as alluring.

Ambient/Drone
  1. Low Priest I (16:49)
  2. Low Priest II (12:20)
Review: These two arrangements from Omaha, Nebraska's Erinome are at once immersive and vaporous. The tracks on "Low Priest" embody an organic intensity that envelope the listener, allowing them to get lost in the wall of sounds. Multiple layers of manipulated field recordings and guitar work flawlessly converge, producing thirty minutes of all encompassing, angelic drone.

Review: Islands, volcanoes and instrumental exile stories...
From Overseas is the experimental ambient project by Kevin Sery.

Originally from the tiny French overseas department and region, Reunion Island, he routinely bounces between his home island, a small port town on the east coast of the US and continental Europe picking up fresh ideas and inspiration along the way.

With a beautiful master by Stephan Mathieu (12k, Shelter Press, ...), From Overseas releases his first full length album "Home" on PITP. "Home" is a journey through beautiful soundscapes where dark and light intertwine, where ambient tones give way to post-rock guitar craft, then segway to melodic drone, noise and back again. These soothingly powerful songs evoke emotions on a full spectrum, dreamy unplanned travels and inspire us to question the nature of the place that each of us calls home. The fourth track, Maloya Tales, is a personal tribute to Sery's homeland 'Reunion Island' and gives the listener a glimpse of the mystical rhythms of traditional Reunionese Maloya music.

Review: Formerly known as The Greatest Hoax, there's nothing remotely fake about Washington D.C.'s T.R. Jordan. The work of some serious talent, both in terms of its arrangements and those working behind the scenes (Rafael Anton Irissari, of legendary Ann Arbour imprint Ghostly International is on mixing and production duties), the results of efforts to create this album are truly gripping, albeit in a gentle and heartbreakingly tender way. Whoever the "You" in the title is needs to count themselves very lucky indeed. The six tracks presented here are spellbinding contemporary classical overtures of such spectacular beauty they seem destined to score the most humanistic moments of sci fi. From the redemptive mood of "Leap Of Faith", to the fairytale piano stunner that is "Bruised World", here's proof that storytelling needs no words.

Review: There's a melancholic air running through this five-track collection of ambient overtures that is hard to escape from. Don't get us wrong, the music here - produced, recorded and mixed by Drew Sullivan - is peaceful and beautiful. But it's also destined to break hearts, encouraging refection on what has happened, and what may already have been lost to the sands of time. 'The Disappearing Collective' is, evidently, everyone who encounters this particular release. Track titles such as 'What We Knew As Children' certainly leave little to the imagination on that front. And yet each moment here feels as though made specifically for us to spend some time imagining things to. We can see a forever here, but what that forever looks like may not always be what we were hoping for.

Review: Since debuting on his own Simulacra Records imprint back in 2014, Todd Gautreau has released some seriously good ambient music as Tapes & Topographies. We attribute much of his success to a trademark style that blends fractured, heavily processed field recordings with opaque, comforting chords and melodies that are capable of winding their way into your subconscious. This trademark style once again comes to the fore on A Pulse of Durations, his first album for Past Inside The Present. Furnishing his usual fuzzy soundscapes with occasional melancholic piano motifs (see the gorgeous 'You Saw Nothing in Hiroshima'), swelling drone tones ('The Seashell & The Clergyman') and plucked strings ('The Modern Equivalent'), Gautreau delivers one of his most meditative and emotion-stirring sets to date.

Review: Nick Turner is open about the traumatic period of time in which this record was made, in the run up to his mother's death. A painful experience, nevertheless the record itself feel hopeful, seems to celebrate beauty and hold its hands out to offer listeners a welcoming embrace. The most profound losses can often make people feel resentful, but this couldn't sound any more compassionate and warm if it tried.

Somewhere in a world between ambient and full drone, 'All We Have' is about the shimmer and flow of harmonious refrain, soaring chimes and choral accents. There are blissful moments, serene sections and an overwhelmingly peaceful and tranquil ambience. It's not afraid to show us what it is, it invites us to explore its depths, and the effort on our part is massively rewarding. A record that could really inspire strength, despite its delicate and fragile nature.

Review: It would be fair to say that the West Yorkshire city of Bradford is not known as a hotbed of drowsy post-rock-meets-trippy-ambient experimentation. Yet it was in the former textiles powerhouse (and sometime home of British bass music pioneers Unique 3) that Gavin Millar and Thomas Ragsdale recorded their latest album as Worriedaboutsatan, 'Europa'. As you'd expect given their track record, it's a wonderfully atmospheric, sonically detailed and ultimately ear-pleasing affair, with the duo offering up an inspired mixture of hypnotic, textured, groove-driven workouts (see the shoegaze techno haziness of 'Who Is A Hunter' and the near-Balearic bliss of 'Cloaking'), poignant and bittersweet electronic soundscapes (the bubbly and melancholic 'Vex' and deliciously layered ambient epics (sublime opener 'Sunk' and slow-motion closer 'Shift').
