Review: Know widely for delivering no nonsense dance floor weapons of the highest quality, One Records pull out the goods once again with a double hitter from Acid Mondays. Back on board the label since their standout remix of Andrade was released earlier this year, this time they offer their unique production skills with 'Schlurptastic' and 'Dohec'. On the B-side Bass Culture boss D'Julz brings two sterling remixes to the table

Deep House
  1. Rhytham Trap
  2. Let It Go (feat Jose)
  3. Rhytham Trap (Guti remix)
  4. Rhytham Trap (Adam Shelton remix)
Review: Since debuting on J'Julz Bass Culture label in 2010, John Dimas has produced a steady stream of functional house cuts designed for the club - this EP even more so with four added locked grooves. Anyone that remembers Australian electronica act Endorphin may be able to recognise the twisted metallic hit that frequently sounds between the rolling beats and arpeggios of "Rhythm Trap". Guti lightens his remix with swirling pads and subtle acidic tones, while Adam Shelton strips things back to a pumping drum track, adding punchy staccato chords tickled by various versions of the original's arpeggios. "Let It Go" then sees guest vocalist Jose's drowsy vocals float in a bed of watery synths and a de-scaled bass pulse.

Hypnotize Me

Deep House
  1. Hypnotize Me
  2. Hypnotize Me (Nail remix)
Review: Having made a name for himself in the more classically informed end of the modern house spectrum, John Dimas returns to his regular haunt One Records with a new single of no-nonsense house music. There's a dubby sway to the melodic content that chugs through the centre of "Hypnotize Me", while the beat stays fresh and bouncy like all NJ-influenced drums should. On the flipside Nail step up for a remix, bringing a more staccato rhythm to the table along with a chunky square wave bassline, wielding the elements with the poise you would expect of a UK house veteran.

Cat: ONE 036. Rel: 29 Feb 16
  1. Amethyst
Review: One Records move into 2016 with what is set to be one of the biggest records of the year coming from elusive producer Gabriels. This one sided, one track bomb comes in the form of 'Amethyst' and sits in a whole league of its own.

Originally from England but currently based in the midst of the L.A hills, masked by mysterious identity, Gabriels has been quietly forging a comprehensive studio set up and is finally ready to unveil his debut release. Setting his own standards sky high, 'Amethyst' grabs you from the off with it's floor shaking bass, immersive vocals and hypnotic energy that builds with subtle intensity and texture for a dramatic breakdown. This is the track you'll remember when you leave the club, an undeniable beast that is certain to do the rounds in 2016.

  1. Mir (7:32)

  3. Mir (Cab Drivers remix) (6:41)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Ukrainian artist iO is the next to make his mark on One Records with
'Mir', including two intricate and sophisticated, rolling dance floor
tracks of the highest quality. On remix duty, the profoundly talented
Cab Drivers showcase their unique production style, as they too are
warmly welcomed to the label.
Part of the game for a number of years now, iO's successful releases
can be found on imprints such as Rejected, Noir Music, Area Remote,
Leftroom, VIVa, Highway Records and his own Mulen Records which he
started in 2012 and released his stunning debut album with on in 2013.
Aside from his skills in the studio, iO's talents as a DJ also see him play
regularly at the likes of Arma17 (Moscow), Studio 80 (Amsterdam) and
Boom Boom Room (Kiev), also appearing at events such as ADE, WMC,
Exit and Kazantip.
Hugely respected Berlin residents Cab Drivers aka ZKY & Daniel Paul are
well known for their distinguished productions and live showcases. Their
well established record label Cabinet Records holds an extensive
catalogue of quality music and places them even further within the
real elite of electronic music.

  4. Jack Wickham - "Yin" (7:08)
Review: One Records' past decade in the business is celebrated with this second installment curated by label chief Subb-An. On 'Ten Years Of One Part 2', we have got cuts on the A side by the aforementioned Subb-An who teams up with veteran producer Mathew Jonson for a surprising collaboration titled "Red" - an infectious tech house thumper in the proper UK tradition, followed by French label staples Yamen & Eda who get deep down and dirty on the swinging and bass-driven "Mister Proper". On the flip, British up and comers Thomas Bulwer & Anna Wall deliver the infectious "Cap Clap" and the ever reliable Jack Wickham is as hypnotic as always on the handy groove tool "Yin".

Vamos Mi Nino EP

Deep House

  2. Vamos Mi Nino (Matthew Styles remix)
  3. Trufo Plus
  4. Trufo Plus (Jozif remix)
Review: Hanfry Martinez & Javier Carballo team up for the Vamos Mi Nino EP with two tracks that receive remixes by Mathew Styles and Jozif. The title track "Vamos Mi Nino" is a techy groover with some beefy 909 hats added for some extra strength, which sees Mathew Styles adds modulating filters and aqueous synths to his remix. "Turfo Plus" is grubby in groove, with cheeky and quirked-out vocal loops - similar to Masemenos material. Crosstown Rebel and Wolf & Lamb act Jozif adds vamped chords and blowing horns to his mix, removing most of the originals frowzy elements in the process.

Deep House
  1. E211 (7:59)
  2. E131 (6:19)
  3. E211 (John Dimas Pulsar remix) (6:26)
Review: One Records continue their quest for the most up-to-the-minute house and tech-house tones, this time calling on Bobby O'Donnell to step up to the plate with his groovesome wares. "E211" is a huge track, using swooping pads and a classic diva vocal lick to devastating effect - it's hard to imagine anyone resisting the emotional draw of this melancholic jam. "E131" meanwhile is a more cheeky affair, ramping up the funky drum programming and using a more minimal palette of sounds for decoration. John Dimas then steps up to remix "E211" and turns it into a hard-bopping workout powered by a mean-tempered snare.

  2. Smile (The Mole MMD remix) (7:02)
Review: Transmitting out of Birmingham and representing the cream of the sleek tech house crop, Adam Shelton's One Records continues to forge valuable connections with the global scene while staying true to the label's roots. Shaun Reeves and Tuccillo have been doing their thing for long enough to know how to throw down a surefooted deep groover, and that's just what you get with "Smile". Meanwhile The Mole does a sterling job of working some complex percussion into the bones of the track and creating a hypnotic, understated version that will appeal to the freakier end of the floor.

Warp (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ONE 032. Rel: 09 Feb 15
Deep House
  1. Warp
  2. TV (feat Jacob Phono)
Review: The long running One Records overseen by Adam Shelton and Subb-An returns with it's 32nd release and first of the year; more importantly Warp is the first full EP for the label from Mr. Ashique Subhan! With a style very much cultivated across releases on Spectral, Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, Cocoon, a new record from Subb-An will always be greeted with anticipation. Lead track "Warp" is a typically classy slice of effervescent house music, funnelling deep and dubby textures underneath a strident bassline and crisp, intricate drum programming. Complementing this, "TV" is an equally charming production who's worming bass surges work well against the vocal contribution from Jacob Phono.

  2. Adam Pits - "Pungent Method" (5:31)
  3. Urulu - "Mollare Qualcuno" (6:24)
  4. Yamen & Eda - "Last Dance" (7:18)
Review: It's now accepted that label anniversary compilations and EPs should be stacked with high-grade cuts, preferably offered up by sizable or notable artists. Even so, there's something extra-special about this first part of Digbeth-based One Records' 10th anniversary EP series. Fittingly, it begins with a fresh cut from label stalwart Subb-an, a suitably heavy chunk of locked-in, early morning techno titled "Sunrise Mood", before continuing via the cut-up breakbeat fills, spacey electronics and warehouse-ready analogue bass of Adam Pits' "Pungent Method". Over on side B, Los Angeles-based Steve Urulu serves up the groovy, percussion-rich deep house/techno fusion of retro-futurist treat "Mollare Qualcuno", while Yamen & Eda drift their way through the deep breakbeat-house shuffle of "Last Dance".

Self Control/Only Now (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ONE 041. Rel: 18 Apr 17
Deep House
  1. Subb An - "Self Control" (feat Isis Salam)
  2. Adam Shelton - "Only Now" (feat Isis Salam)
Review: Subb-An and Adam Shelton may be plenty busy with their own endeavours, but they still know how to bring it home to roost on their own One Records. This time around they've both turned to the same vocalist, Isis Salam, to deliver some insistent instruction atop their lean and mean productions. Subb-An's "Self Control" is a cool and deadly workout that places the emphasis on the bass and places Salam's classic speech at the front of the mix. Shelton gets into a more jacking frame of mind on "Only Now", whipping up a raw Chicago flavour to devastating effect.

Review: Following their recent release on the One Records VA, core family members
Yamen & EDA are the next offering on the label with the ‘Temporis EP’. The
sophisticated EP offers four dance floor tracks journeying through
mesmerising grooves, intricate percussions and quirky sound effects.
“We are very happy to return on One Records, it’s really like a family. Adam
and Ash believe in our music and we really feel being part of a crew. That’s
why it’s always special to release on One.” - Yamen & EDA
Having first become part of the label back in 2012 as part of a VA, French duo
Yamen & EDA have since been an integral part of One Records with their EP
‘Planet Brooklyn’ and a remix of Acid Mondays plus a debut gig at fabric as
part of a One Records showcase.
Over the past few years the pair have been hard at work in the studio refining
their style and becoming more confident in their production and DJ gigs. Their
release last year on Early Dub and this latest offering on One demonstrates
this clearly, which has gained them support from the likes of Appolonia and
Raresh amongst many.
