Review: Although it's a genuinely terrific album, A3000's 1994 set Magnetic Gliding remains unknown to all but a handful of 90s ambient and ambient techno enthusiasts. Musique Pour La Danse has, wisely some would argue, decided to reissue it. Produced by Swiss scene stalwarts Marco Repetto (best known as part of cult post-punk era combo Grauzone) and Stefan Riesen - who later joined forces again as Synectics on Reflex - the album flits between spacey deep techno workouts (sublime opener 'Sonic Stripes'), psychedelic ambient soundscapes (see the similarly impressive 'Flow'), and the kind of hybrid cuts served up by 90s contemporaries such as Spacetime Continuum and Air Liquide. In a word: essential.

Review: First released in 1994 and remastered for the 21st century. An absolutely georgous 12" by Orlando Voorn under his Baruka moniker focusing on ambient house / IDM and downtempo, think of the heyday of Black Dog, New Electronica, Artificial Intelligence, and Fat Cat Records shop, with Orlando's touch. And a truly delicious acid line on Circles.

Review: First released in 1994 and remastered for the 21st century. As the title subtly suggest, this has to be played LOUD! And it the recent days, the title tune (that FX mix) has been played recently by the usual suspects. A classic and strong 12" by Orlando Voorn under his Baruka moniker focusing on twisted funky Detroit Techno sound with his special signature.

Review: Between 1986 and 1994, Tony Boninsegna released an insane amount of music under dozens of different aliases, offering up rave-ready tracks that variously mixed and matched elements of acid house, bleep & bass, hardcore techno and breakbeat. Yet he remains almost unknown. Notes From The Underground, a two-part retrospective of his career, is therefore well overdue. This second part, which boasts extensive sleeve notes from UK dance music historian Matt Anniss, is packed to the rafters with re-mastered treats, with highlights including the electro-tinged bleep business of Lab Technicians' 'We Gave You Life', the weighty acid breaks of Sykosis 451's 'Monsoon', the breakbeat hardcore funkiness of MI7's 'Show I', and the proto-jungle madness of Raggahead's 'Give The People What They Want'.

Review: At long last, a light has been shone on the career of one of the UK's true underground rave heroes: Bedford producer (and man of umpteen aliases) Tony Bonisegna. Cold Blow and Musique Pour La Danse have done a terrific job on the two-part set, offering up remastered killer cuts from Bonisenga's vast catalogue alongside extensive sleeve notes by Join The Future author Matt Anniss (whose book was the first to tell the producer's remarkable story). There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this first volume, including Bonisegna's earliest explorations of house in the late 80s (both as part of The Rhythm Squad), the clonking and bleeping shuffle of Original Clique's 'F (Whistle Mix)', the Pet Shop Boys-go-to-a-rave shimmer of 'Tonnere' by Pierrepoint, the acid-flecked breaks madness of Big Showdown's 'They're Here' and the sub-heavy early breakbeat hardcore of AEK's 'Lick It'.

Review: Here's something to set the pulse racing: a reissue of Coil's 1992 soundtrack to the VHS-only sex-ed documentary "The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex". It's always been something of an in-demand curio, primarily because it sees John Balance, Peter Christopherson and Danny Hyde not in industrial or experimental mode, but rather exploring the dreamy chord sequences and warming horizontal of ambient house (albeit with occasional nods towards acid jazz/proto trip-hop and what Hyde describes as "sort of progressive house"). It's very good, though, and comes with two tasty bonus cuts, "Nasa Arab" and "Omlagus Garfungiloops", which are vastly different versions of other soundtrack cuts. These were originally featured on a CD-only release in 1992.

Le Mystere - "Opus 303" (4:27)
Le Mystere - "On The Beat" (5:18)
Agaric - "Cute Acid" (4:41)
Le Mystere - "On The Dub" (5:20)
Review: A couple of years back, Music Pour La Danse released a superb anthology of works by key Belgian new beat producer Rembert De Swet, better known as Ro Maron. This 12" is meant as a kind of partner to that release and features a trio of sought-after cuts from De Swet's La Mystere collaboration with Ferre Baellen (AKA Bhab), plus a bonus acid throw-down he released as Agaric (the fantastic "Cute Acid", whose wild TB-303 lines work in perfect harmony with the producer's delicate beats and ghostly synthesizer melodies). Interestingly, both "On The Beat" and "On The Dub" are far more Balearic in feel than many De Swet projects - think chunky, laidback breakbeats, picturesque melodies and sunny chord sequences - while "Opus 303" wraps lilting, almost melancholic chords and trippy acid lines around a similarly break-driven groove.

Travelling Through The Speed Of Music (8:42)
Pulse (6:59)
Flow (7:13)
Review: Mental Groove offshoot Music Pour La Danse has previously put out compilations of Orlando Voorn's finest early work, so it's little surprise to see them once against dipping into the Storied Dutchman's vast back catalogue. The Travelling EP first surfaced way back in 1994 and was the sole 12" Voorn recorded as Defence. A-side "Travelling Through The Speed of Music" is typical of the producer's work at that period of time, featuring bubbling, trance-inspired electronics, gentle acid lines, delay-heavy vocal snippets and oodles of Detroit techno influences. On the flipside, "Pulse" is similarly trippy and trancey (in the original sense of the term) with lighter beats and picturesque flourishes, while "Flow" is a luscious chunk of "intelligent techno"-era electro with subtle ambient house overtones.

Review: 25 years on from its original 1996 release, Neil Ollivierra's debut album as the Detroit Escalator Company gets a reissue. Emerging like a phoenix from Detroit's early dance music scene, 'Soundtrack [313]' deals in the rawer end of atmospheric, arpreggiated techno, each track taking on a different facet of the same shapeshifting platonic form. Enthusiastic panning and crystalline plucks adorn each mix here, re-evoking the same refractive, ascendant image we had of this album in 1996.

Review: Second time around for one of the ambient techno era's genuine classics, The Detroit Escalator Co's debut album 313 [Soundtrack]. A love letter to producer Neil Olliviera's home city designed to be listened to in the hours before dawn, the album has become something of a cult classic since its initial release on Ferox Records back in 1996. Olliviera's musical blend is relaxed, ethereal and gently futuristic in tone, offering a far-sighted and evocative musical journey that consistently blurs the boundaries between '90s ambient, early Warp style IDM, glacial electronica and softly spun melodic movements inspired by the American minimalism of Steve Reich and Terry Riley. This 25th anniversary edition includes four tracks omitted from the original release and extensive liner notes from the artist.

Review: Belgian artist and producer DJ Athome has put together this compilation for Musique Pour La Danse with the intention of highlighting the niche UK fesitval scene between 1986 and 1996. It was a time when psychedelic dub, space rock, and early electronica were all in collision with each other as people took ever more mind altering drugs and partied in spiritual locations like Stonehenge. Listening to the sounds takes you there in an instant with weird and wonderful bongos, didgeridoos, new age melodies, world music and non-Western influences all feeding into the tracks. As much as this is a reminder of the good time for those who were there, it's also a brilliant collection for newcomers with an interest in musical history.

Review: Here's a genuine slice of history: a rare recording of a live jam from ambient techno explorers The Irresistible Force (AKA legendary chill-out room DJ and shiny space suit enthusiast Mixmaster Morris) and Ramjac Corporation (AKA Paul Chivers), which took place at gallery, shop and intimate acid house venue The Brain in Soho, way back in September 1990. It's a brilliant time capsule of a time when the template of ambient techno was yet to be fully fleshed out and sees the two performers take it in turns to combine immersive ambient synth sounds and hallucinatory electronics with oddball samples and, more significantly, basslines and drum machine rhythms inspired by the Chicago House and UK mutations of Detroit techno. An important and entertaining musical time capsule.

Review: Surely there is no one alive who isn't familiar with the oversized, over-energized beats that is Donkey Kong. One of the most enduring characters of the Nintendo world, he remains as popular with kids now as he did back in the 90s and so this first-ever physical release of the Donkey Kong Country Soundtrack is special indeed. The project has been led by Louisiana-based composer and producer Jammin' Sam Miller who has recreated all the most iconic sounds from the game using hex SPC data crudely converted to MIDI. Review: For those not schooled in the short-lived but influential sound of New Beat, the name Ro Moran won't mean much. Yet during the late '80s and early '90s, Moran - real name Rembert De Smet - was one of Belgium's most prolific producers, delivering underground New Beat anthems on an almost weekly basis. This career retrospective gathers together the best of his productions, a number of which haven't seen the light of day since 1988. Like much New Beat, Moran's driving, warehouse-friendly productions inventively joined the dots between industrial, EBM and pitched-down acid house, best witnessed in the twisted funk of Kaos 007's "CK On Acid", 2 Body's strobe-friendly "Astoria", and Edwards & Armani's slamming "Acid Drill".

Review:  Mental Groove offshoot Music Pour La Danse knows a thing or two about tieless techno. And they don't come much more vital than the self titled 1994 debut album from Jonah Sharp (aka Spacetime Continuum) and David Moufang (aka Move D). It never quite got the props it deserved back then and has been an underrated gem ever since but this reissue should put paid to that. It is a holy meeting of lush ambient design, cavernous dub spaces, hints of glistening IDM melody and deeper than deep techno drums that leave you feeling cleansed inside and out.

Review: As Detroit techno spread across the world and inspired a generation, Scotsman in London Jonah Sharp took up the mantle Space Time Continuum and crossed the Atlantic to shore up in San Francisco with a cutting edge sound steeped in the language of advanced chill-out room machine soul. His label Reflective kicked off with Flurescence, an EP of exquisite, dreamy trips which has since become a rare and prized piece within the buoyant deep techno scene. Musique Pour La Danse are all over this kind of stuff, and it's good to know the reissue of such a seminal work is being handled by the best in the business.

Part Five: As Doors Open Into Space
Review: Former Coil, Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV member Peter Christopherson helmed many a little-known side project, and The Threshold HouseBoys Choir was one such moniker. In 2007, he released 'Form Grows Rampant', a weirdo's never-never land in album form, following the breakup of Coil in 2005. Expressly not a choir by any stretch, this project focused on exploring vocaloids (CG vocals). The result is a glossolalic and verbed-out display of sonic splendure, with the compositions recalling classical works but littered with digital, electronic detritus. This is a new, condensed reissue via Musique Pour La Danse; clock new CD, black vinyl and clear vinyl versions.

Review: Back in 2007, three years before he passed away, Throbbing Gristle co-founder and long-serving Coil member Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson recorded a sole album as The Threshhold HouseBoys Choir. It initially came out on a CD (with accompanying DVD of typically trippy imagery), making this reissue the first time it has appeared on wax. The album's five lengthy tracks draw on Thai musical culture -Christopherson was based in Thailand at the time -with computer manipulated indigenous vocals weaving in and out of gorgeously sunny, bubbly and intoxicating electronic soundscapes. Such sonic positivity guarantees entertainment and every listen, with the set arguably being one of Christopherson's most accessible and colourful albums.
