Dequadrant Redux (limited white vinyl 12")

Techno
  1. Dequadrant Redux
  2. Einsatz
Review: Some dark, clunky, cavernous dub techno here from Canadian producer Atheus. Insistent hi-hats form the early rhythmic pulse on "Dequadrant Redux", with groaning steel factory atmospherics welded to a twisted and scorched melody. The muffled thunderings of the kick drum meanwhile evokes a dark, narcotic power buried deep inside the bowels of the track. Flipside cut "Einsatz" is less immediately gratifying, yet the powerful but never overstated combination of claps, rasping hats and bass makes it more of a grower. All pressed up on lovely white vinyl from the MOM crew.

Review: "Inchain FX" is another step in the development of the warm foggy minimal dubby techno sound of Berlin. Atheus delivers a hot record that will make you move your ass in a very gentle way.

  1. Fragile
  2. Earth & Nightfall
Review: Probably one of the best tracks of John Beltran ever!! Taken from his classic release (and very obscure release on the 33rpm/sineave label from Detroit in 1993). "Fragile", released on Millions of Moments, features nice and fragile techno tracks..but still with a drive and energy. Back in those days this was one of the best catches during your weekly record shopping... and today its still as good as it ever was.

  3. Wallshaker (Sven's Garden Of Eden dub) (10:43)
Review: One of our favourite labels Millions Of Moments pays a fitting tribute to a true Detroit great in the dearly departed Aaron Carl. His passing late last year was a truly sad end to a glorious career and one of his finest moments in "Wallshaker" is revisited here. Massively rare upon original release back in 1997, Millions Of Moments have already reissued "Wallshaker" and it's accompanying and quite hypnotic "Midnite Dub" back in 2007 but here they go the extra mile, enlisting Sven Weismann to add his own touch to the track. Spread across the B Side, Weismann delivers a superlative remix which transforms the rattling original into a lavishly deep and dubby excursion filled with delightful orchestral flourishes. Extra special sleeve packaging and all profits going to the Carl family just add reasons to indulge in this special release. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Review: *** REPRESS ** Aaron Carl's 1996 Detroit classic "Crucifix" has become an object of obsession for Millions of Moments with the Japanese label having already released remixes from Quantec and Rob Modell two years ago. On this release, Metrolux boss XDB is at the controls for three different versions with the deep burn of the main remix the most impressive. Comes on clear vinyl with a screen printed MOM logo across the white paper envelope sleeve.

Review: Dutch producer Marcellis' output has been sporadic at best since his debut on Black Label in 2004, but his masterful outing on Berlin's Workshop stable last year, seems to have marked a turning point in his output. The six-track I Am Woman EP, released on Millions of Moments represents his most extensive work to date, and it proves to be just as deep as that Workshop 12". "Wanderland" and "Dang Me" provide more of those idiosyncratic downbeat beats Marcellis is known for, while "Speakeasy" proves a sumptuous trip through classic piano-led Chicago house. Really though, this is an EP of outstanding vocal house, with Fabian and Dexter's contributions elevating this EP into another league entirely.

  2. Goodby Last Snow (Love Sprockets dub)
Review: Millions Of Moments keep the treats rolling in here, turning to Russia's premiere exponent of frosted dub techno, Mr Cloudy, for their latest clear vinyl release. Barkalov opens his debut release for the imprint with the gentle fractured dub techno shimmer of "Warmer"- all reclined Martian bass movements and metallic textures scattering on the graceful syncopation with rhythmic aplomb. Flipside counterpart "Goodbye Last Snow (Love Sprockets Dub)" occupies similar tempo territory but is flushed with more emotion, pensive melodies washing over the sub driven rhythmic gait with generally jaw dropping results. This is music to get lost in, willingly and completely.

Review: The final of three lovely clear vinyl Millions of Moments releases in a week sees the majestic Osaka based label introduce our ears to the mysterious Northworks. The glorious plunging spectral dub technoisms of "In" and resonating frozen ambience of "Out" suck you right in. The B Side "Through" proves to be equally captivating, soft Detroit drum programming the backdrop to a surfeit of luxurious dubbed melodies.

  2. Substratum
  3. Easing Of Tension
Review: The second invitation this week from Millions of Moments to traverse the outer echelons of expertly crafted dubbed house and it's another debut release on the imprint; this time courtesy of Quantec. Anyone who has indulged in the producer's output for a multiplicity of imprints including Styrax and Echochord - or indeed his sumptuous refix of Aaron Carl for the MoM imprint - will have an inkling of what to expect and naturally Schienhammer doesn't disappoint. Frosted Basic Channel rhythms run throughout the opener "Sub-System", gently easing through the aural mist atop crisp metallic drums, a sensation that pours into the accompanying languid charms of "Substratum" - all dreamy panned soundscapes laying down the mood before a gentle rhythmic staccato urgency arrives. "Easing Of Tension" is perhaps the most luxuriant offering here, stretching a thick sonic soup all the way across the B Side and willing you to fully engage your senses.

  4. Now Is The Time

Review: Osaka imprint Millions Of Moments make a swift return to our shelves with this extended reissue of Raza brilliance on a clear orange twelve inch. One time Warp artist Raza first appeared on MoM last year with "Gonna Make You Work" and "As One" featuring either side of a swiftly sold out clear seven inch. Both tracks form the A Side here and sound just as immediately gratifying over a year later. Vintage Chicago sounds course through the roots of "Gonna Make You Work" from the warm luscious bass throbs to the delicate yet piercing 909 shuffles and main vocal refrain. This is complemented by the futuristic rhythms of "As One" which manages to reference two decades of Detroit techno in little over six minutes. Just to be different the tracks on the flip play inside out! "Big Room Subtleties" is just that, little more than a bleepy rhythm over abrasive kicks, whilst "Now Is The Time" is a return to the pumping raw Chicago sound of the A Side's opening gambit. The cavernous and ever so slightly druggy techno throb of "Chocolate Drops" closes off proceedings in fine style.

  1. Dog Day
Review: A one sided release by one of the hottest names in techno at this moment, Redshape. This has a slower pace and slower beats, with a nice old school-ish house feel (early '90s beats with a sampled break beat and 707 cowbells and stuff). The real hook on "Dog Day" is a slow raving sample that goes on and on. Millions of Moments release Redshape's most surprising track to date.

Review: You've probably already been impressed by Roof light's outing for Highpoint Lowlife this year, but the original white label of "Midas" was so limited it was gone before anyone had a chance to blink. Thankfully Millions of Moments do the right thing and give it a proper release on stush clear vinyl. A brilliantly chopped up dub boogie version of Midnight Star's "Midas Touch" beams across the A Side, but the flip wins out here. An infectious burning disco groove is central to "Palms" but it's the intricately programmed drum edits which make you pay attention throughout.

Review: With original copies of Jovonn's classic "Where Did House Go", released in 1993 on Kaleidoscope Records, changing hands for big money on Discogs, Millions Of Moments have reissued the track on limited edition clear vinyl, complete with dub version and edited form. With its smooth Rhodes keys, synth flutes, rolling drums and classic spoken word vocal extolling the importance of the culture of house music, it shows up most contemporary deep house to be seriously lacking in comparison.

Review: A week after Juno Plus revealed Berlin based label Millions Of Moments was launching a UK dubstep/funky/garage influenced sub label, we're given a timely reminder about what made the MOM name in the first place: straight up, emotive deep house and techno. And who better to repress than Russian producer Anton Zap, whose You Are Not Alone EP - first released in late 2009 - constitutes one of the label's finest moments. Sit back and allow the pool cue percussion and sparse, mechanical chords to envelope your headphones in "Classic Dub", a master class in the 'less is more' school of production. This shares the A Side with the sombre shuffle of "Kingdom", before the skeletal drums of "Party Down Dub" opens proceedings on the flip. Final track "Adide" is imbued with the most groove of all, with expertly arranged bass and bongos reminding us once again why Zap is one of the most respected names in contemporary deep house.
