Remember
Review: After launching into Memory Box with aplomb on the deadly Acid Stomp 12", Robin Ball steps up on the London-based imprint once again with the saucy tones of his latest four track EP. "Drop It Down Low" and its accompanying dub mix are classy twists on the tech house formula that lean towards old-skool methods while keeping the sleaze factor ramped up high. "Remember" takes a more tripped out tribal approach, with the "Vibes mix" providing a more subtle twist to the warm, melodic undulations of the full fat version. It's an EP loaded with personality and flair for sophisticated dancefloors.

Robin Ball - "Acid Stomp"
Robin Ball - "Acid Duck"
Robin Ball & Neil Tibbetts - "Sqolch" (Robin Ball remix)
MVDC - "Back In The Dayz"
Review: The Memory Box parties have been celebrating the classic foundations of acid house for some time, and now they've launched a label to push their love of squelchy 303 even further. Robin Ball steps up for the first release with some classic examples of how to ride the well-worn machine and keep it sounding fresh like the first rays of morning through the warehouse window. "Acid Stomp" needs little explanation - it teases with some subdued 303 warbles before the real meat of the track kicks in and the frequency starts freaking. "Acid Duck" is a more reduced affair, while collaboration with Neil Tibbetts "Sqolch" works a few deep house elements into the mix. MVDC finish the EP off with the abrasive, grungy thrust of "Back In The Dayz".

Review: Orson Bramley has a long-standing legacy in UK electro history as part of the Transparent Sound production crew, and he's been recently aligned with Robin Ball's Memory Box parties in London where he's been able to display his years of experience whipping machines into funky configurations in a live environment. This release speaks to that experience, with the various versions of "Then Again" punching out an irresistible sermon of crafty synth lines, swooping strings and crisp beats. Ball steps up for two remixes on the flip that equally reside in the electro realm, but come at the component parts from a different rhythmic angle. One refined idea done five ways - what more do you need to know?

Cat: MB 04. Rel: 15 Jul 19

Techno
X To C (5:08)
Gripper (7:43)
The Edge (5:40)
Review: Robin Ball's Memory Box dips once more into the acid-laced honey pot and comes up with the lysergic maestro Luke Vibert, who delivers a crucial gurgler in "X To C" that ranks amongst his most incisive 303 workouts in recent memory. A snappy 808 drum line and quintessential vocal chops make this an all-round masterful jam for heads down moments in the dance. Robin Ball himself steps up on the B side with two equally proficient cuts, from the big and bold peak time propulsion of "Gripper" to the punchy tech-noir of "The Edge".
