Review: Italian veteran Gigi Masin has had a real renaissance in recent years thanks to the arrival of a public love of go-slow sounds, more chilled festival stages and deep digging record collectors. Here he links with one of the younger stars of the scene in Jonny Nash for a perfectly entitled album, Postcards From Nowhere. It is six tracks of achingly beautiful ambient with Balearic guitar riffs drifting next to sustained synths, gently rippling rhythms and far-sighted melodies. It's a record that consumes your mind and empties it of everything but the most soothing thoughts.

MATstudio 2
MATstudio 2 (limited clear vinyl LP + insert)
Cat: MATSS 2. Rel: 28 May 19
Ambient/Drone
  1. The Perishable Imagination (14:19)
  2. Maybe This Is Something You Should Think About (14:22)
Review: Earlier in the year, Jonny Nash and Diego Herrera (AKA Suzanne Kraft) debuted their MATStudio project, a collage style affair featuring lengthy tracks built out of fragments of "improvisations, experiments and accidents". This speedy follow-up is arguably even better than its predecessor, at least in our eyes. There's something particularly wondrous about A-side "The Perishable Imagination", a sublime 14-minute journey through processed ambient electronics, delay-laden acoustic guitars and droning effects that subtly shifts focus several times. "Maybe This Is Something You Should Think About" slowly throbs and pulses before softly unfurling via trademark Jonny Nash guitars, scattergun Autechre-esque beats and intergalactic electronics. Lie down, zone out and enjoy.

Review: Downtempo dream team Jonny Nash and Suzanne Kraft join forces once more for another excursion far out to sea. Their ambient soundscapes are as lush as they come and are the perfectly transportive sounds we need right now. From mellow and melancholic piano chords to meandering synth lines there is lots to get lost in here, always with a real sense of slowly unfolding narrative and deep sense of immersion. The tenderness of this duo seems to know no bounds as they continue to find truly moving beauty in the most minimal of compositions.
