Review: Malka Tuti's latest must-check chunk of accessible experimentalism comes courtesy of Toresch member and Tolouse Low Trax collaborator Viktoria Wehrmeister. Under the Decha alias, she presents a solo debut that gleefully sidesteps conventional electronic music tropes. Musically, it's varied and intriguingly tropical in tone, with the presence of Wehrmeister's spoken word or freestyle vocals throughout unifying a nine-track set that variously doffs a cap towards minimalist electronic pop, indigenous South American instrumentation, droning ambient soundscapes, lo-fi electronica and pleasingly out-there soundscapes. As debuts go, "Hielo Boca" is arresting and impressive in equal measure. Recommended.

  1. Yaranabe (live version) (8:26)
  2. Metal Man (Tapan remix) (7:55)
  3. Mersey River (Gordon Pohl Reimagination part 1 & 2) (16:07)
Review: Tel-Aviv label Malka Tuti, ran by Asaf Samuel and Katzele, is an imprint too often overlooked and underrated, even for its iconic aesthetic and single-mindedness. However, we don't mean that to say they are predictable - far from it. The label has constantly provided us with new artists and new forms of experimental dance, with this latest EP from Die Orangen providing even more food for the ears. The duo haven't put out too much music, as of yet, but their mystical shade of techno sounds full of interesting influences and ethereal nuances, much like the opening rhythm of "Yaranabe (live version)", along with the stuttering, off-kilter tribalism of Tapan's version of "Metal Man". The Gordon Pohl 'Reimagination' of "Mersey River" comes in two parts, culminating in a deep and dubby rhythmic dance with an ambient stance. Strong. Tipped.

  10. Der Krautback (7:28)
  11. Fur Alle (feat Jono Ma) (5:14)
Review: The label prog is often applied pretty loosely to anything that we struggle to throw into other piles. In the case of the latest LP from Australians Dreems and Kris Baha, it's more a case of record defining term rather than the other way round. Produced with their vast and culturally fascinating homeland very much at the forefront of their minds, it's hard not to feel captivated by the air of surrealism and compelled by the grooves on offer. Opener "Wires In The Outback" sets the scene well. Waves of weird synth work gradually immerse the listener before huge drums rolls begin crashing in. From there it's adventure abound, calling off at the head-nodding alt-pop of "The Island (Back To Me)" and the slo-mo chug of "Desert Metallika", seemingly without pausing for breath. Psychedelic, shimmering harmonies deliver a trippy conclusion, here entitled "Fur Alle", a modus that's also employed, albeit with darker undertones, on "Cape Grim", while "Deep Chrome Red" brings things closer to deep, weird club beats.

  4. 40 Gram Beton (radio edit) (3:56)
Review: Helmed by Asaf Samuel and Katzele, Malka Tuti transmits cosmic boogie sounds from Tel Aviv that come from lesser-known sources. On their fifth release they turn to The Kloom, a loose-fit operation of unknowns making a debut appearance with the powerful strut of "40 Gram Beton". Mixing slow disco grooves with ranging synths and warm piano notes, it's an infectious track that provides a prime jump-off point for the cast of remixers that round out the release. Die Wilde Jagd adds a more mechanical coldwave pulse to the track while Khidja gets lost in a swirling trip of a version, with the label throwing in a radio edit as a bonus on the B2.

  1. Commando Fatal (2:30)
  2. Alma Vala (4:56)
Review: Lena Muir is an enigmatic artist who you are desperate to hear more from, and learn more about, once you hear this EP on Mala Tuti. "Commando Fatal" is a brilliant bit of punk laden techno that is propelled by a filthy and rugged riff and coated in layers of grit, grime and distortion. On the flip, "Alma Mala" is another tight and kinetic techno-punk rhythm with bristling drums and occasional breaks that only amp things up further. Devastating bass brings delicious doom to this hugely fresh little 7".

  5. Outro (5:00)
Review: Following two fine teaser singles on Malka Tuti, Tapan (AKA Belgrade-based producers Nebosja Bogdanovic and Goran Simonosk) are finally ready to unleash their debut album, Europa. A genuinely unique proposition, the set sees them flit between mind-altering Middle Eastern dub-jazz (the trippy title track), delay-laden late night soundscapes (the brilliant "In My Heart"), woozy post-punk dystopia ("Bogovi"), percussion-rich, horn-heavy weirdness ("Trouble") and the kind of dubwise, other-worldly fare that we'd once have expected to hear from early '80s Bristolian bands such as Maximum Joy. It's naturally hugely atmospheric, but more impressive than that is the duo's imaginative approach. While the influences are easy to spot, describing the results is pleasingly tricky.
