Les Mondes Engloutis (Psychemagik mixes)
Cat: MB 2028 XX. Rel: 28 May 19

Disco/Nu-Disco
Les Mondes Engloutis (Psychemagik main mix) (7:17)
Les Mondes Engloutis (Psychemagik 5am mix) (9:07)
Review: Martin Brodin's MB Disco imprint continues to deliver the good stuff, this time featuring two utterly essential Psychemagik mixes of Alico vs Cagri's "Les Mondes Engloutis". These mixes actually first surfaced on a digital-only release back in 2013, but now they've been buffed up for a full vinyl pressing, and rightly so. A side "Main Mix" is a full bodied, emotional banger with a lead drop to get crowds waving arms and singing along wholeheartedly. Our pick is the "5am Mix" on the flip though, where the synths take on a more shimmering nocturnal tone without losing that bright and bold character that will land this 12" in all manner of record bags this summer.

Oh Yeah
Oh Yeah (12")

Disco/Nu-Disco
Oh Yeah
Oh Yeah (The Glimmers remix)
Review: Swedish disco dabbler Martin has really come into his own since switching from deep house to a funkier sound. With remixes of The Human League and Moroder now under his belt, he's ready to unleash his debut album. But first, this: a massive INXS sampling party piece. A bulging boogiefest with classic chanting vocals and a rich, bewilderingly fat analogue bass groove, it's Brodin at his cheekiest. And for added value he's also thrown in a more pumping electro flavoured Glimmers remix. Oh yeah? Yeah!

E Equals MC2
E Equals MC2 (double 12")
Cat: MB 2018. Rel: 16 Jan 12

Disco/Nu-Disco
E=MC2 (Alexander Robotnick remix)
E=MC2 (I Robots remix)
E=MC2 (LIS rework)
E=MC2 (Baldelli & Dionigi remix)
E=MC2 (Rodion Gran Manigheo remix)
E=MC2 (No More Klein & MBO remix)
Review: Back on its original release, Munich man Moroder's E=MC2 was marketed as the first album to be recorded entirely digitally. Here, the largely forgotten title track gets another airing thanks a bunch of new remixes from European disco producers new and old. Alexander Robotnik leads the charge with a version that evokes memories of his classic early 80s material, while ILS gleefully fuses classic Italo sounds with contemporary house rhythms. The odd but attractive No More Klein & MBO version sounds like a mash-up between "E=MC2" and "Dirty Talk", whilst Rodion lays down some contemporary electro-disco with just enough cheeky analogue bump. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a chiming, retro-futurist rework from Baldelli and Dionigi.

The Chase 2011 (remixes)
Cat: MB 2013. Rel: 17 May 11

Disco/Nu-Disco
The Chase (Martin Brodin remix)
The Chase (Martin Brodin Dubbed Out)
Review: Last time out Swede Martin Brodin re-made Newcleus' electro classic "Jam On It", requisitioning Chicken Lips to deliver a remix too. This time round, he's turned his attention to another electronic classic: Giorgio Moroder's instrumental Euro disco anthem, "The Chase". Of the two mixes on offer, it's the "Dubbed Out" version that impresses most. Unlike Brodin's fairly faithful "Remix", it transports the track to previously uncharted territory, twisting and tweaking the famous melody in thrilling new directions. There are cowbells aplenty, D Train style synth funk touches and a general air of dancefloor madness that screams "play me". You'd be a fool not to.

Jam On It (Martin Brodin remix)
Jam On It (A Chicken Lips Malfunction!)
Review: Deeplay boss Martin Brodin continues his journey back to his discocentric roots on the MB Disco imprint with two retouches of a track that has its place in the history of dance music. Newcleus' "Jam On It" bridged the gap between the nascent styles of proto hip-hop and electro back upon its release in 1984 and is something of an obsession for the Swedish impresario. Brodin has already done two remixes of the track as part of a Deeplay release a few years back that also saw interpretations from Von Stroke and DJ T. His latest effort that adorns the A Side takes a suitably Balearic approach to the track, laying down a substantial live drum sounding beat and heavily delayed synths before that distinctive electro melody comes in as the precursor to some heavy string drama. On the flip Chicken Lips come through with an infectious space dub version that drops plenty of vintage analogue lines and reverberant percussion on top of a beefed up version of that melody.

See (remixes)
Cat: MB 2010. Rel: 20 Aug 10

Disco/Nu-Disco
See (Martin Brodin remix)
See (Drop Out Orchestra remix)
Review: Deeplay Music boss man Martin Brodin launches his new MB Disco imprint with Croatian disco deity Ilija Rudman the object of some remix treatment on the inaugural release. Lifting Rudman's "See" from the Deeplay archives Brodin embellishes the track with a burning boogie strut, with overdubbed synth lines the melodic backdrop to filtered vocals and a chuggy beat. The ever mysterious Drop Out Orchestra opt for a more traditional NYC Disco flavour on their remix with low slung bass and rhythm licks in abundance amidst the glittering flourishes. With subsequent releases from the likes of Newcleus, Ray Mang and Giorgio Moroder on the horizon, Brodin's imprint is certainly one to look out for.
