Nrol 39 (12")
Cat: LOP 03. Rel: 14 Feb 18
  1. Digital River (4:48)
  2. Drexciya Descendents (4:32)
  3. The Hydro Return (5:04)
  4. Avalon (6:47)
Review: Mattia Trani, son of legendary Italian DJ Marco Trani (the most influential DJ in Rome throughout the 1980s), has previously impressed with a gaggle of techno twelves, mostly on his own PushMaster Discs label. This 12" for the shadowy Lunar Orbiter Program label sees him debut a new alias, 051 Destroyer. It seems him turn his hand to a range of largely hard-wired electro-related styles, from the weighty lo-fi thrust of club-ready opener "Digital River" and Braindance-inspired insanity of "Drexciya Descendents", to the wild sci-fi electronics and electro/techno fusion beats of the surprisingly jacking "The Hdyro Return". Closer "Avalon", a deeper, warmer and more relaxed affair with hints of IDM, is also impressive.

Polaris 2 (12")
Cat: LOP 02. Rel: 06 Dec 17
  1. Polaris (5:58)
  2. Electronic Orchestra (4:33)
  3. 007013200 (feat Carot-7b) (6:02)
Review: Mysterious production entity CEM3340 won plenty of plaudits for debut 12" Polaris One, a fine electro three-tracker that tended towards the intergalactic end of the spectrum. That set sounded like something that could have appeared in 1984 or '85 - albeit with a few sleazier, acid house-era touches - so it's no surprise to find that this follow-up is similar in tone. Opener "Polaris", for example, boasts a tasty mixture of short vocal vocals, deep space melodies lines and throbbing analogue beats and bass. The EP's other two cuts, "Electronic Orchestra" and "007013200", both sound like long-lost Cybotron jams from the period when they made "Clear" and "Techno City". In other words, this is retro-futurist electro of the highest quality.

  7. Jammin' In The Dark (2:39)
Review: Following up a couple of great EPs on Lunar Orbiter Program back in 2017, the mysterious and shadowy CEM3340 is back with his debut LP for the London based imprint. Expect yet more of their proper underground electro from a Drexciyan point of view, on the Perfect Stranger LP: from the dirty future funk of "Story Of An Egyptian Man", the steely EBM/industrial influence on "Tormented Man" or "Jammin' in the Dark" or just straight up-in-your face electro breaks like on the killer "I Can't Get Wrong".
