Brother Says Relax (6:10)
Turn Off (1:48)
The Light (1:51)
The Burden Of Proof (5:25)
SIS (feat Solar - Bro Nebs In dub) (5:08)
Review: Brother Nebula is the alias of veteran Calfornian producer Lance Desardi, who some may remember presented a great EP on Nick Hoppner's Touch From A Distance back in 2019. He returns to London's Legwork label with a selection of high-def sonic workouts on Brother Says Relax. On side A, there's the elevating acid house of the title track taking its cues from the timeless Trax Records era, followed by some handy beat and acapella versions. Over on the flip, the woozy and saucer-eyed 'The Burden Of Proof' is followed by the druggy, chugging tunnel vision of 'SIS' (feat Solar - Bro Nebs In dub).

The Mission

The Mission (Lance DeSardi remix)
The Mission (Convextion remix)
The Mission
Review: Legwork's 2nd single comes from another one of our Texas compatriates, the indelible Brett Johnson, fresh off some amazing work on Classic, Get Physical, Rawax and other killer imprints. The Mission harks back to some of our favourite dub-techno moments, but keeps it's own flare with Brett's signature robo-rhythms and chopped and screwed vocal cuts. On the remix tip, it's label head Lance DeSardi & Convextion bringing their own flavour to the table respectively, with Lance stepping to the chord memory, deep bass, and over sampled drums, and Convextion going all the way out into hyper space with his usual sub-aquatic space funk.

Mean 2 Me (6:13)
Key 2 Me (5:18)
Review: The fourth installment in the Legwork Records saga sees label heads Lance DeSardi & Leopold come together under the artist moniker LEGWORK. For their first outing under the name they start with BUCK SHOT, a techno-soul chugger featuring a remix by the futurist himself, Matrixxman. On the flip, the boys go in for a straight-ahead killer with MEAN 2 ME and a more musical version of the same tune, KEY 2 ME.

Electro
SIS (6:28)
SIS (Brother Nebula Revision) (6:47)
SIS (Savile Jetset radio remix) (5:14)
Review: Despite boasting a DJ career that stretches back to the San Francisco rave moment of the early '90s, Solar Langevin has very little previous production pedigree. In fact, this 12" marks his debut single with the mysterious Brother Nebula, following occasional contributions to multi-artist EPs. "S.I.S" is the kind of pulsating, strobe-friendly cut that we can imagine goes down a storm in San Francisco's more muscular clubs. While its chords and occasional melodies tend towards the dreamy, it's the bubbling, mind-altering acid lines and bustling electro-techno groove that catch the ear. Brother Nebula takes a different approach on his looser and mellower, breakbeat-driven remix, while Saville Jetset re-imagines "S.I.S" as a deep electro shuffler lazily drifting through deep space.

ZY Clone
ZY Clone (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: LWK 6. Rel: 22 Nov 17

Electro
Zy Clone (5:19)
Zy Clone (Vectorvision re-vison) (5:59)
Review: Here's something to put lead in the pencil of any electro nuts out there: a high-profile collaboration between rising star Vectorvision (AKA Dallas producer Brian Bishop) and all-round legend Convextion (AKA Gerard Hanson). In its original form, ZY Clone is something of a beast, sitting somewhere between the heavy, angular, acid-laced Dutch electro sound and the melodious, synth-laden, deep space bliss of Hanson's usual Convextion fare. Bishop goes solo to provide the obligatory flipside remix, layering waves of glacial, cascading synthesizer lines and spacey chord progressions over an action-packed drum machine workout. Naturally, both sides are rich in bustling analogue drum machine hits and vintage synthesizer motifs.
