Techno
Kognitive (6:03)
Memory (5:50)
Perception (5:50)
Review: Aiken is a techno procure from Spain who brings a stylish sound. It's full fat, clean and stylish, with a focus on the art of repetition. HIs tunes are built from simple but well-designed things - rubbery kicks, shakers, spangled synth motifs, and then he just tweaks and teases them all for the hypnotic duration of each track. 'Kognitive' eventually contorts itself into a real banger, 'Memory' is a sci-fi and melodic masterclass a la Luke Slater and then last of all, 'Perception' sinks down into a deep and linear techno tunnel where all of reality becomes distorted and unreal.

Stampede (6:47)
Still (5:53)
Waiting For You (5:49)
Kobalt (6:09)
Review: Atonism has apparently been production electronic music for 12 years. but somehow this is a first ever official release. It lands on the Key Vinyl label and suggests the artist has a love of proper techno. Opener 'Stampede' piles on the pressure with its hurried drums and slinky synths all racing ahead in hypnotic linear fashion. 'Still' is a mind melter where drums, bass and synths all interweave freely and manically, then 'Waiting For You' mangles fragments of melody into a tight arrangement next to slapping hits and drums and oversized and frazzled hi hats. 'Kobalt' is a peak time, strobe lit bit of techno funk.

27 (feat Viktoriia) (5:40)
Unknown Error (5:35)
Don't Call Me Baby (feat Viktoriia) (5:53)
La Noche (6:01)
Review: Key Vinyl is the concern of French techno man Freddy K and next up on his excellent imprint is a young and developing artist by the name of Atonism. He hails from Spain and once again shows his class here with a little help from the vocals of Viktoriia. His brand of techno is punchy and direct but not sort of nuance - the opener has some funk in the kicks and mystery in the scratchy vocals then 'Unknown Error' gets unhinged and disorientating in terms of its twisted synths. 'Don't Call Me Baby' is bubbly, wet minimal and 'La Noche' shuts down with surging synths, unrelenting drums and hammering hits.

Cavity (5:15)
Void (5:09)
Anemic (5:06)
Motion (5:17)
Review: Make no mistake about it, this new EP features four fierce tools that have no bigger intention than to blow minds on the dancefloor. And that is something that Benales excels at, especially on the Key Vinyl label. 'Cavity' is all hunched over and urgent, with a manic synth loop pacing about the mix. 'Void' is just as tight and powerful, with wall-rattling synths and twitchy modulations all underpinned by monstrous bass. 'Anemic' is anything but. It heads into mind-melting Millsian techno territory with bendy synths and oversized hi hats while 'Motion' closes out in turbulent style, with busted drums and unsettling loops all keeping you on the edge of your toes.

Message From The Error System (7:04)
Mechanics (4:43)
Captivate (4:15)
Review: Decka & Roseen serve up their first ever collaborative works here with their Keynote EP on Key Vinyl. They head straight in at the deep end with opener 'Message From The Error System' an ominous and darkly atmospheric cut that keeps you in suspense next to frosty synths and looming bass as drums and synths grow enervating more angsty. 'Mechanics' is a classic Mills style space-techno cut laced with molten melodies and 'Captivate' then brings some warped synth energy and rumbling bass tension. Timeless tackle that will drown you in sound.

Loop 1 (5:02)
Loop 2 (5:58)
Loop 3 (5:46)
Loop 4 (5:11)
Review: Producer and live artist Dold doesn't much about with this new EP on KEY. Across four loop-based tracks he goes in hard but funky. The first is all tight kicks and vast bass pumps beneath a weird hook. The second is just as fully charged, this time with a scratchy and edgy synth sound and twisted vocal yelp peeling off the pummelling drums below. Somehow the Swedish then ups the ante further with the dark moods of 'Loop 3' which is more minimal but not any less impactful and 'Loop 4' shuts down with some lush Detroit synth melodies shimmering over a more leggy and broken beat rhythm. Sublime peak time tackle.

Codex (6:07)
Review: Swedish duo KSEL is made up of Kim Stockblom and Elias Landberg who you will probably best know as the man behind Skudge. This is their debut offering on the Key Vinyl label and it is couched in Jeff Mills style Detroit techno minimalism. Opener 'Kontrast' is all chattery claps, hurried drum loops and subtly evolving synth melodies, 'Dash' is edgy and keeps you in suspense, while 'Reformed' gets even more manic with its pinging drums and silvery hi hats overlaid with restless and warped synths lines. 'Codex' closes out with searching sonar blips and supple drums designed to take you deep down a rabbit hole.

Akien (6:47)
Sentena (5:45)
Julie (6:27)
Mucuya (7:01)
Review: Germany's Key Vinyl serves up not one but two banging EPs for us this month. David Lohlien is behind this one and is very much at the heart of a new school of techno producer who is doing the simple things right. His loopy, hard hitting sound is perfectly distilled to the core elements. Each one is perfectly meticulous, and together they add up to functional but also well formed techno that races straight ahead. 'Akien' it's glitchy and metallic, 'Sentena' built from wall rattling kicks, 'Julie' brings an eerie vocal to flip you out in the club and 'Mucuya' hammers you over the head and will have you screaming that you love it.

Explain Pain
Backfiring Nerves
Parasympathetic
Review: Derry duo Overall Severity first surfaced last year, committing some stout and sinister techno to a split release on M_REC that dovetailed nicely with the more emotive B side contribution from Fabrizio Lapiana. The chance to explore their self styled "analogue psychiatric disturbance" in more detail is afforded here as Overall Severity are granted their vinyl debut proper with this 12" for the KEY Records label that's previously been a platform for Shapednoise and Conrad Van Orton. Across the three tracks, Knowing The Healing suggests Overall Severity may be a name to pay close attention to as the year progresses with their distinctly alien analogue lines complemented by rhythms that feel itchy in the most complementary way possible.

Transient X4 - "Ways To Space" (6:13)
Review: Freddy K's Key Vinyl gets on with it in fine form with four heavy hitters for the peak time dancefloor; business as usual! Two tracks from French producer The Plant Worker provide banging cyclical DJ tools on both "Iota 1" and "Iota 2" while Berlin's Transient X4 gives us the bleepy and rather Millsian "Lost In Perceptions". The dark, epic journey that is "Ways To Space" and really nailing that Berghain vibe.

Ocular Optics (5:29)
Global Agreement (5:48)
Nodes 2926 (5:47)
Backup Quest (5:49)
Review: It's no mean feat to clock up 30 releases but that's what the reliable German label Key Vinyl does here. The honour of being the name on the wax this time round is given to Translate and Pulse who pair up for four funky and stylish techno tracks. The first 'Ocular Optics' is full of bounce and modulated synth ripples while 'Global Agreement' cuts loose on more manic melodic patterns that call to mind early Jeff Mills. The lashing synths and cantering drums of 'Nodes 2926' make for a fine peak time ride and then 'Backup Quest' layers eerie and haunting organ chords with edgy melodies and thumping kicks.

Anor Londo (5:42)
Yokai (4:45)
Heretic (5:15)
Darkmoon (5:14)
Review: Dutch artist Troy makes his debut on Key as the young label serves up its fourth fierce release. He showcases a love of hard hitting but intelligent techno with bare elements all doing plenty of work. '
Anor Londo' is an urgent slammer with safelight synths over hammering kicks, 'Yokai' is a bigger wall of sound, with frazzled electronics and cantering hits all bringing the rave and 'Heretic' is somewhere in between, with distorted kick and heady melodies eventually joined by a ragged lead line to blow your mind. 'Darkmoon' closes out with a distant trip to the other side of nearest astral body.

Musk (5:08)
Review: There are no prisoners taken on this 31st EP from the Key label: it is packed with power across four cuts from Twr72 who manages and mashes up groovers and synths into frenzied but funky cuts desisted to do nothing other than blow up the dance floor. The Dutch producer really lays bare his style here and impresses in the process with haunting sound designs and a stark contrast between light and dark, hi and low, emotive and physical. It makes for a standout techno sound with plenty of excellent execution and bouncy basslines.
