Review: Nick Harris aka A Sagittariun lands on Bristol's Idle Hands with a smacking two-tracker for the techno puritans! Fair enough, the flow and structure of "Pseudo Science" might not be typically classed as traditional techno, but there is so much freedom in its half-step beats and circular percussion shots, making this a beautiful relic of the sort of dance music that was being made just before the rise of 'minimal'. On the B-side, "Heavy Manners" is slower to pick up pace, kicking off with a frosty, barren procession of hi-hats and mild beats, both giving way to the much more powerful swing of the pads and harmonies in the backdrop. Excellent.

Review: Matt Karmil is an artist of many talents, and his adventures in sound have taken him across techno, disco, and even ambient explorations. He makes his return herein to Bristol's Idle Hands, coming through with a new album that spans just about all his skills, and can only be described as a musical mind drift - a sonic reverie, if you will. Throughout, we're presented with everything from glitchy, broken down hip hop, to shady shreds of house, and even odd and rhythmic blends of drone and Balearica. It's been on the office stereo all day here at Juno, and it might just be album of the week, in our opinion!

Review: Sweden's Johanna Knutson has fast become one of Berlin's most celebrated selectors, with regular appearances in the party mecca's top clubs such as about//blank and Berghain plus having releases on Power Plant, Kann, and Klass Wrecks. Speaking of the latter - she went on to create Zodiac 44 with Luca Lozano and UFO Station Recordings with Hans Berg: a fellow ex-Stockholmer whom she collaborates with on this fine release for Bristol based Idle Hands. These three deep, spacey and functional cuts will appeal to fans of dustier/lo-fi Berlin sounds - as made popular by the likes of Acido, SUED or Recording. From the throbbing monosynth led grind of "Teppen" to the tunnelling and hypnotic trance induction of "Bimbo" and the deep sonar transmissions of "Klimax" on the B side: these ones are undoubtedly useful when used in combination with other reduced tracks in your record bag, or great used on their own for their subtlety.

Review: Following one of his most active years to date - with releases on the likes of Slow Motion, Wake Up! and Barba, Dublin deepsmith Lerosa kickstarts 2017 with another on-point adventure on Idle Hands. As with a lot of Leopoldo's output, the vibe net is cast commendably wide as we kick off with the uptempo slightly Radioactivemanesque "Maryelen" and close down with a stripped back Basic Channel-style linear techno strutter "Subcouture". In between we have the wonderfully dubby disco charmer "Line Bass" and the more mystical, off-beat trip-out "Scruffy". Aces.

Review: Bristol's Idle Hands label - the imprint largely representative of the shop's mood and selection - doesn't put out tonnes of music each year, but what they do release is always brimming with quality and panache. This time the tunes come in the form of an album by the shadowy O$VMV$M duo, made up of Young Echo associates Neek and Amos Childs, who have put together a selection of dub-filtered ambient sketches in true Bristolian fashion. "Beyond", a fuzzy soundscape filled with intricate field recordings and samples, sets the scene for what's to come next: a touch of UK gutter blasting on the sparse and eerie "Sad Grime", fluttering modular bleeps on "Goodbye", watery swells of delay on "Sea Mills Cash Dub", and the absurdly spaced-out "Obeah", a truly fitting last moment to this stunning LP. Cop.

Review: Amos Childs and Sam Barrett came through with an excellent debut for Idle Hands in 2015, under the incorrigibly enigmatic O$VMV$M moniker. Their first, self-titled album, was a magnetic blend of glitchy, minimalistic drone-dub, and the duo return with something just as special here. This is actually their third LP to date, and they've decided to retain the name, clearly focussed on instilling their sound as an artistic trademark. This is incredibly on-point because, just like their first effort, the music on here resides in a world of its own, a dense sonic stratosphere made up of chilling electronics and; while significant parts of this LP would be typically categorised as 'ambient' or 'drone', these two producers have added enough grit, charm and texture to make this a work of true quality throughout. Another Idle Hands bombshell...
