Your Touch EP
Your Touch EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: HS 010. Rel: 24 Oct 16

Disco/Nu-Disco
Your Touch (feat Ale Chambers - original mix) (5:11)
Your Touch (First Touch mix) (4:44)
Your Touch (Magic Touch & Luvraw mix) (4:42)
Your Touch (Magic Touch & Luvraw ambient mix) (4:44)
Review: There's an abundance of boogie-infused heat pouring out of Freekwency's latest offering to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. Ale Chambers lays down a smooth, passionate vocal line on the title track before we get treated to some excellent alternative versions. The "First Touch" mix is a buffed up jam that brings the electro funk into a leaner club-ready situation, while Magic Touch and Luvraw work a tougher house thump underneath Chambers' vocal on the B-side. Not content with making a peak time killer out of the original, the pairing also turn in a sublime ambient mix with the drums replaced by swirling, dubbed-out synth lines.

Wheeels EP
Wheeels EP (140 gram marble vinyl 12")

Winter Phonque (2:23)
Mollusque (2:33)
Sans Titre (2:23)
Autoremote (3:03)
Sur La Riviere (3:42)
Woogie On (5:04)
Review: Montreal's KenLo Craqnuques has been bubbling away in the underground for some time, but lucky for us Hot Shot Sounds took notice and now present his first outing on vinyl with the Wheeels EP. There is an irresistible funk to the sounds that Craqnuques conjures up, pushing fat, Moog-esque basslines and low slung machine beats rolling at an easy tempo that hark back to the golden days of boogie and electro funk. "Mollusque" indicates how his is far from a throwback sound though - this is up to the minute instrumental RnB that recognises the true roots of the genre while looking to the future, and it sounds utterly fresh.

Peddlin Trax Vol 1: The Ringtone EP
Cat: HS 007. Rel: 07 Sep 15

Deep House
Real Hipsters Don't Dance (6:52)
That Ringtone Shit (5:34)
Get High (5:23)
One 4 Ibiza (4:45)
S.E.X.X.X. Met Jouwww (3:46)
Review: Hot Shot Sounds expand their remit with the launch of Peddlin Trax, a new house-orientated series to "keep you riding all day and into the night". First up is the legend of Amsterdam's house and hip-hop scene, the master Kid Sublime; anyone that follows his work on the Dopeness Galore label will agree this is a fine choice. "Real Hipsters Don't Dance" tees off in a Kenny Dope does b-boy house kind of vibe, whilst "That Ringtone Shit" is on more of a Dog In The Night tip. Down below, both "Get High" and "One For Ibiza" are pure house bliss, the sort of cuts you love to slip in the mix, whilst Kid Sublime heads off into buttery beatdown boogie territory on closing track "S.E.X.X.X. Met Jouwww". A strong start to the series.

Cloudeaters EP
Cat: HS 03. Rel: 16 Dec 13

Disco/Nu-Disco
Eternal Freedom
Cloud Eaters
Skyline
Eternal Freedom (Linkwood remix)
Eternal Freedom (GB aka Gifted & Blessed remix)
Review: A bit of a coup here for the Hot Shot Sounds label as former Virgo Four producer Merwyn Sanders teams up with that man Inkswel on a heavy hitting platter that has a pair of killer remixes tucked away on the B Side. Quite how this collaboration came about is unclear, though it's nice to see Sanders back on the mic after the somewhat contentious circumstances surrounding his departure from the Virgo Four project. Those familiar with Inkswel's productions will know what to expect here, with the A Side featuring three cuts of prime Australian drum machine music that is lent further dashes of soul by Sander's distinctly fragile tones. Flip it and the master GB and the master Linkwood step up with some great remixes of "Eternal Freedom" - the former's ascendant take is a highlight.

Review: The late nite stepper, the strut in the stuff that leaves you wanting more. That goodnight kiss, that early morning mist. Mystery producer Olmos steps to the plate for his debut 12" on Hot Shot Sounds, boogie funk vibes paired with modern nods to house- stomping OG mix backed with remixes from label boss Inkswel and Faces & McDE maestro Pablo Valentino.

Disco/Nu-Disco
City Raw
Series 3000
Rachels Beat

Untitled Funk
Future
The Night Watch
Review: Metropolis- is it an actual city or a digital fantasy; a construct formed inside a synthetic brain? Either way this is the soundtrack to a city that exists somewhere. A place that comes alive at nightfall and breathes artificial light until dawn. Where millions of human threads interweave, and a machine conciousness drifts by on the periphery, searching for an intimate connection. Limited pressing. Vinyl, tape and digital.

High Accord - "You Are (My Number One Priority)" (Inkswel remix)
Review: Those with a passion for '80s electrofunk, boogie, synth jams, machine soul and proto-house should already be aware of Inskwel and Benny Badge's Hot Shot label. The imprint specializes in delivering fresh music inspired by those sounds. Here, the Australian duo gathers together a superb selection of contemporary revivalist sounds from like-minded souls. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the rubbery bass and vintage synths of First Touch's "Sure Feels Good To Me" and Jupiter Gang's bodypoppin' electro workout "America", to the deep proto-house of Paradise Box's "Slave 2 Knowledge" and Inkswel's acid-tinged midtempo deep house rework of High Accord's "You Are (My Number One Priority)". Stellar stuff, all told.
