Slam Jams Vol 2
Cat: HHANDS 013. Rel: 05 Aug 20

Bass
Breaka - "Loose Subs" (5:41)
Guava - "Outerbody Innerspace" (4:56)
Lrds - "Quanda" (5:49)
Dawn Razor - "Be As One 1" (5:37)
Review: Holding Hands are back with another crucial summer VA EP and it's another hearty selection. Breaka's "Loose Subs" takes the lead on a bubbling 160 flex with a vibe that's not dissimilar to Zinc back in his golden days. Guava drops the tempo for an acidic two-step piece while Lrds' "Quanda" is an ice cold electro joint with more shuffle than a poker house. Last but not least Dawn Razor shuts down the EP on a deliciously stripped back breaky tip that blossoms with a new element on every 32. Slam Jam thank you ma'am.

The Bruce (12")
Cat: HHANDS 011. Rel: 17 Mar 20

Bass
The Bruce (7:02)
The Ventus (6:00)
Mega Globule (5:54)
Pompey Cruiser (6:20)
Review: The DSC is back at his manor! After releases on the likes of Futureboogie and Touch From A Distance, Desert Sound Colony returns to his own imprint Holding Hands and he does so with four absolutely juicy charmers. "The Bruce" kicks off with Radioactiveman-like butt-wriggling acid charm while "The Ventus" continues the venomous acid feel but on more of a rolling housey rhythm not unlike TCR Records back in their late 90s prime. Flip for sublime jazzy two-step "Pompey Cruiser" (think a Sunship b-side dub but warped, blended and baked to 2020 weird-level perfection) and dark techno-infused funky. Dangerous.

B45 EP
B45 EP (12")
Cat: HHANDS 010. Rel: 14 Jan 20

Bass
Gallegos - "Blue Mountain" (6:10)
Gallegos & Baby Rollen - "Underwater" (6:50)
Gallegos & Baby Rollen - "B45" (7:17)
Gallegos - "SHOULDACOULDAWOULDA" (5:04)
Review: Showtime ladies and gentlemen, Desert Sound Colony's Holding Hands reaches the big one-oh with Gallegos and Baby Rollen and the results are every bit as sweaty and heavy as you'd hoped they'd be. Gallegos kicks off solo with the acid stampede "Blue Mountain" before Baby comes on board with "Underwater". Strutting breaks with just the right levels of dubby synths and elastic acid; this could easily be a 1999 jam. Flip to the B for some even hairier escapades as "B45" digs even deeper into breakbeat culture with a stripped back b-boy feel and velveteen rave pads before Gallegos finishes the EP with the stunning piano-tickled curveball "SHOULDACOULDAWOULDA". Rave on!

Stagga
Stagga (12")
Cat: HHANDS 009. Rel: 03 Sep 19

Bass
Stagga (6:31)
Pest Control (5:52)
Stagga (OCB remix) (4:49)
Review: Desert Sound Colony's ardently floor-focused vinyl-only imprint Holding Hands welcomes Space Cadet Adam Pits to the fray. He responds with two brute-strength breakbeat cuts for different times of the night. "Stagga" is a 135 acid frenzy, sitting somewhere between Radioactive Man and Lee Coombes circa 2003. The later the night the better for this wormhole - it'll chew your floor up and spit them out as robots quicker than you can say "banger mate". Meanwhile on the B "Pest Control" plays the consummate warm-up groove with a stately warped bassline doing all the right hypnosis tricks. Think Tyrant's "No Shoes, No Cake" and you're nibbling from the right table. Throw in a UKG breaks twist by OCB on "Stagga" for good measure and you're in flavour country. Hold tight.
