Ghetto Stays On The Mind
Cat: OR 124. Rel: 17 Dec 20
Roots/Lovers Rock
  1. Ghetto Stays In The Mind (5:07)
  2. Ghetto Dub (5:08)
Review: Impact/Onlyroots are non-stop in December with a whole heap of vital 7"s dropping and covering some fine dub and reggae territory in the process. This is another fine reissue that sets its sights on a classic 1972 roots reggae roller than first came from Impact Records with superb production by Sonia Pottinger. 'Ghetto Stays In The Mind' is a classic with dreamy harmonica leads and a rumbling rhythm section that brims with detail and character. The flip side is a dub that is just as great.

Set Me Free
Cat: ORD 26. Rel: 16 Dec 20
Roots/Lovers Rock
  1. Bob Andy & The Revolutionarys - "Set Me Free" (6:10)
  2. The Revolutionarys - "Movements" (6:06)
Review: High Note/Onlyroots are having a busy December with multiple choice reissues. Next up is this massive rockers version of the rocksteady classic from the 1970s. Bob Andy & The Revolutionarys do a fine job of hustling up a prickly groove with plenty of wooden rim shots brings the energy next to the swaggering drums and elastic vocal performance. It's a real lovers rock classic that is back with a vision which has a more prominent organ lead that flips the vibe to one of deeper meditation. Either side is sure to hit the right spot.

Suffer's Child
Cat: OR 123. Rel: 23 Feb 21
Roots/Lovers Rock
  1. Delroy Denton - "Suffer's Child" (2:43)
  2. Sky Nation - "Suffer's Version" (2:51)
Review: Silvertones vocalist Delroy Denton laid down some real rootsy heat with this one way back in 1975. His vulnerable vocals and heartfelt ad clubs really get you in a sweet spot as the party ridders rumble along in earthy fashion. It's a timeless cut that is perfect for big systems and warmer climes. On the flip, as you'd expect, is a filter heavy dub from Sky Nation that will twist your melon inside out and back again. Sweeping in and out with filters, the original is smeared and stretched to make for a whole new vibe that is just as crucial.
