  13. Thing Of The Past (2:55)
Review: We won't be the first one to have pondered over the question as to exactly what Glasgow puts in its water. Scotland's second city has always matched creativity with grit, a ridiculously warm welcome with ferocious independence that could intimidate those from less proud corners of the world. Here, one of the town's art-pop trophy pieces delivers an impressive addition to their storied catalogue which explore new avenues without jarring. Psychedelia abounds in subtle form. Tracks like "Feel You More Than The World Right Now" spring forth with a positivity that seems truly otherworldly in the current global climate. The staccato cacophony opening of "Despotic Sway" soon fades into more of a reflective indie offering, while the country-tinged "Black Cat" takes a different path altogether. It might fall on "Thing Of The Past" to crown the album, its propellant rhythm taking all ears on its infectious course.

Review: Spinning Coin's first album harks back to a hazily golden and summery age of UK indie, in a completely sincere and underivative way. The Glaswegian quintet worked with producer Edwyn Collins for this confident opening statement. With the songwriting split between two members of the band, the album benefits from contrasts in sound, from more angular and rough headbanging moments to softer and more whimsical indie-pop. It's a charming debut, welcoming these newcomers to a long and historic lineage of Glaswegian indie groups.
