Broken Beat/Nu Jazz
  1. Can - "Vitamin C" (Blackcash & Theo Thelonious Beats Gillepsie edit) (4:09)
  2. Silver Apples - "Lovefingers" (Blackcash & Theo Thelonious Beats Gillepsie edit) (4:16)
Review: We're really loving the Galaxy Sound Co massive; the label invariably turns up with the heat required to make our heads turn. Their edits aren't just your regular edits, they're reworks of quality soul and funk gems from the creme-de-la-creme of diggers' bags. For instance, the present number nine in the series features Vitamin C's lo-fi jam reworked by Blackish and Theo Thelonious Beats Gillespie, and the result is something extra special - a driving groove to satisfy for than one sort of collector. On the flip, leftfield dance maestro Lovefingers has his "Mr Apples" tune turned into even more of an abstraction by Blackcash and TTBC himself; what you get is a singular slice of wavy psychedelia for the open-minded DJ. TIP!

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Captain Dax - "Dr Beezar" (BlackCash & Theo edit) (3:05)
  2. Harry Mosco - "I Feel Funky" (BlackCash & Theo edit) (4:19)
Review: Since re-launching early last year, Backcash & Theo's Galaxy Sound Company label has delivered a constant stream of killer singles, all featuring high quality re-edits of little known space funk, cosmic soul and spiraling disco-funk gems. Predictably, this fifth installment in their 7" series features two more scorching hot scalpel jobs. The A-side boasts a terrifically heavy scalpel edit of Captain Dax's wild 1975 jam "Dr Beezer", where crazed synth lines and gruff spoken vocals ride an urgent rhythm. Flip for the straight-up funk brilliance of the un-credited "I Feel Funky", which wraps righteous horns and breathless vocals around a booming, low-slung groove

Adventures In The Land Of Music/Metropole

  1. Dynasty - "Adventures In The Land Of Music" (edit) (4:26)
  2. Cesar Mariano & CIA - "Metropole" (edit) (4:05)
Review: Detroit label Galaxy Sound Co. has been responsible for some killer re-edits over the last couple of years. The genius of their releases, which are mostly tidy 7" singles like this one, is their inspired choice of source material and the deft touch of their scalpel-wielding editors. This time round, the label's anonymous editors breathe new life into tracks from Solar regulars Dynasty and obscure Brazilian disco-funk outfit Cesar Mariana & Cia. It's the version of the latter's "Metropole" - a kind of heavy funk take on the steamy jazz-funk of Azymuth - that shines brightest here, though the A-side rearrangement of soft-focus 1980 disco-soul number "Adventures in Music" - all impassioned vocals, punchy horn lines and warm synths - is also rather good.

Funk
  1. Bouncy Lady (edit) (4:16)
  2. Why Cant People Be Colors Too (edit) (4:31)
Review: BlackCash & Theo are back in this great series of funk, soul and party edits. Pleasure's "Bouncy Lady" was produced by jazz legend Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders. The intro break has been extended, and is said to be one of the all time classic hip hop funk breaks. Elements of this track were sampled on "Brand New Funk" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, "Word to the Mother (Land)" by Big Daddy Kane, and "Church" by De La Soul. On the flip, Whatnauts' "Why Can't People Be Colors Too" is an R&B jam with another heavy break, as sampled by Q-Tip, Pete Rock, Diamond D, Dilla, and "Oh My God" by A Tribe Called Quest featuring Busta Rhymes.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. As Long As Ive Got You (edit) (5:21)
  2. Hands On 120 BPM (4:38)
  3. Star Machine (4:38)
  4. Too Far 122 BPM (4:26)
Review: The Galaxy Sound Company continue their quest for the ultimate disco edit with this new mystery 12" by Starmachine. It's more house than disco this time, to be honest, but this EP makes for a fine crossover between the two genres, and will surely appeal to corresponding DJs. "As Long As I've Got You" is instantly recognisable for its famous Rhodes keys, while "Hands On 120 BPM" is a house chugger that samples Mulatu Astatke's most famous piece - essential tune! "Star Machine" swaggers from left to right with a sleek groove and sexy trumpets, while "Too Far 122 BPM" provides a glorious wail of vocals and house beats to tie this fabulous EP off in fine style.
