Review: For Those That Knoe delves deeper into the archives once more to repackage a bundle of hard to find cuts on vinyl that have been staple supplies in Ben's record bag over the years.

The early to mid 2000s was a period of minimal techno overload, finding quality house music then was a challenge compared to today. Rather than follow the herd, some European producers took influence from the original minimal pioneers and fused those approaches with house music themes in order to push a unique sound of the era. They turned minimal on its head and gave took it in a different direction. Canson from Switzerland released a handful of records between 2002 and 2005 that were a prime example of this aesthetic. Stripped back beats with syncopated melodies - perfect cuts for those early sets or hazy morning sessions.

The three tracks featured on this compilation were originally released on two solo EPs for Canson: Itsudemo and Holiday Plug In, both of which have claimed squatter's rights in my record bag for almost 15 years. I don't think I've played one early slot or house set without one of them. This record is quite a personal one for me as it's a representation of my deeper sound as a DJ. Now the original records are a little hard to find so I'm so glad to share my choice picks of Canson's material on a my label.

A Selection Of Works Part 1 (140 gram vinyl double 12")

  1. Carl Finlow - "Count On It" (6:39)
  2. Silicon Scally - "Dark Matter" (7:08)
  3. Silicon Scally - "Moonax" (7:56)
  4. Voice Stealer - "Unintensional" (5:37)
  5. Silicon Scally - "Deep Dissolve" (7:36)
  6. Silicon Scally - "Auton" (6:07)
  7. Silicon Scally - "Pace" (7:03)
  8. Carl Finlow - "Wafer Thin" (6:28)
Review: Carl Finlow is something of a cult hero in the British electronic underground, having turned his hand to many aliases and styles without pandering to hype, and that's surely why the discerning For Those That Knoe label have deemed him worthy of a showcase release. His works as Silicon Scally are a particular highlight, channeling the seediest streams of Detroit electro and injecting a little of that UK verve and swagger into the mix, with invariably stunning results. Watch out for the seductive bite of "Dark Matter" and the dystopian funk of "Deep Dissolve", but in truth every selection on this choice double pack is worthy of some serious platter time.

Knoe 4/1 (140 gram vinyl 12")

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Track 2
  2. Track 1
  3. Track 7
Review: For Those That Knoe is proud to present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the UK has to offer from Numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. Three tracks from the original demo CD have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by For Those That Knoe onto a special 12" for collectors and club DJs alike.
In true Knoe fashion, release 4/1 is a compilation of tracks unearthed from a CD squirrelled away for a decade in a dusty loft. The CD in question was loaded with unreleased and untitled material from the owners of and producers for two of the UK's rarest and sought after tech house labels rinsed by DJs such as Craig Richards in the late 90s.

KNOE 2/4 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: KNOE 2/4. Rel: 29 May 18
Deep House
  1. Inner Strength
  2. Terraform
  3. Waiting Game
Review: For Those That Knoe are back with another wedge of dusted down delights from Casey Tucker, a hidden treasure of the mid 90s that nearly got away. Fortunately his effervescent machine soul jams have found a new lease of life with these reissues, and this fourth installment comes from a freshly unearthed box of DATs that pushes Tucker's story even further. "Inner Strength" is a pumped up shot of dynamic techno in the classic sense of the word, mysterious but hopeful, tough but sensitive. "Terraform," which previously aired on a long-deleted 12" from the 90s, takes things skywards with an unabashedly positive tone to the dense layers of synths and box beats. "Waiting Game" rounds the EP out on a wistful, acid-drenched tip - let's hope there's more jams of this quality to come from the Tucker archives.
