Review: Vancouver scene stalwarts Sophie Sweetland and Dan Rincon renew their Ambien Baby partnership with an expansive follow-up to 2018's acclaimed project debut, "Transfusion EP". While that was very good, "En Transito" is arguably even better thanks to the duo's giddy mixing and mangling of interconnected electronic sounds and styles. Highlights are plentiful throughout, from the yearning sunrise melodies and Wagon Christ style drums of "Cosa", to the druggy ambient techno of "Seven Minutes In Heaven" and slo-mo acid chug of "Sequential", via the mid-'90s Ninja Tune style head-nodding beats of "Light & High". In other words, it's ace.

Review: Over the last five years, few producers have consistently delivered quite as many inspired, off-kilter and musically diverse albums as Phoebe Guillemot AKA Ramzi. It's for that reason that Cocon, her first full-length since late 2019, is such a significant release. Once agin, she's delivered a wonderfully immersive and impossible-to-pigeonhole affair rich in swelling synthesizer motifs, drifting chords, bubbly melodies, brilliantly programmed rhythms (think slipped D&B, IDM, post trip-hop, and pitched-down breaks), squeezable analogue basslines and occasional use of exotic instrumentation. Hugely listenable and accessible but with enough depth, variety and sonic imagination to please the heads, it's enough deep and immersive triumph.

  11. RAMZi's Anthem (feat SK U Kno) (3:20)
Review: RAMZi's last outing on FATi Records, 2018's "Phobiza Amor Fati Vol 3", was a deliciously hard to pin down affair where a multitude of sounds and styles came together to forge a tight selection of warmly gorgeous tracks. "Multiquest Niveau 1: Camoufle" continues this approach, with RAMZi combining gentle instrumentation, hazy beats, skewed spoken word samples and delay-laden melodies in a thrilling variety of ways. The results are uniformly superb, something that makes picking highlights tough. However, our current favourites include the skittish post electro exotica of "Rubicon", the starry-eyed leftfield deep house pulse of "Balmi", and the 21st century dancehall mutation that is "Trancehall".
