EP1: Foodprogramvoltage
Cat: EGLO 67. Rel: 10 Oct 19
Electro
  1. Softbeta (3:15)
  2. Destiny71z (5:11)
  3. Foodprogramvoltage (4:15)
  4. Sinescannerz (4:58)
Review: Given the label's soulful roots, it's perhaps a little surprising to find Eglo championing a wild, wonky, machine-made EP full of angular electro, IDM, house and techno fusions from debutant Destiny71z. It's apparently the first of three EPs from the little-known producer, who used modular kit and dusty analogue gear to create his unpredictable but undoubtedly brilliant electronic workouts. We're particularly enjoying the zany Autechre-does-two-step-garage flex of "Softbeta" and the weighty, bass-powered crankiness of the artist's self-titled track ("Destiny71z"), but the jazzy, sun-bright breeziness of "Foodprogramvoltage" is also superb, and arguably more in keeping with Eglo's eclectic-but-soulful ethos. Either way, an eye-opening EP that's well worth checking.

Review: Eglo come through with Yellow Memories, the long awaited debut album from Queen bee Fatima! First popping up on the label run by Alex Nut and Floating Points with a vocal contribution to Kleer by FunkinEven, Fatima's been an undeniably soulful presence on Eglo ever since and they've been teasing fans about the idea of a long player from the singer for what seems lie an aeon! Twelve tracks deep, Yellow Memories features button pushing credits from Eglo mainstays Floating Points and fLako along with Sound Signature boss man Theo Parrish, Sa Ra Creative Partners producer Computer Jay, Stones Throw artist (and Madlib's younger brother) Oh No and the wonderfully named Scoop DeVille. Fatima fans will recognise a few of the tracks on the album, with "Techno" and "Circle" issued last summer whilst the Family 12? released earlier this year featured the fLako produced cuts "La Neta" and "Family". Sink in and soak it up!

Marilyn
Marilyn (12")
Cat: EGLO 013. Rel: 25 Nov 20
Broken Beat/Nu Jazz
  1. Marylin (7:30)
  2. Farukx (6:34)
Review: Eglo continues to offer up choice reissues of killer cuts from the back catalogue of Sam Shepherd AKA Floating Points. The latest to get the treatment is 2011 12" Marilyn, which appeared at a time when Shepherd was just beginning to expand his sound palette following a few years of distinctively-swung deep house singles. The title track still boasts the distinctive, jammed-out synthesizer lead lines that were then a hallmark of his productions, as well as the shuffling house beats that we all love dearly, but also makes use of lots of extra percussion, Motor City-influenced chords and some sweet scat singing. Flipside 'Farukx' is a little more revolutionary, with the Eglo co-founder wrapping jazz-fired broken beats in drowsy chords, twinkling synth sounds and wavy female vocal snippets. Likethe A-side, it's one of Shepherd's best.

Dance Tonight
Cat: EGLO 54. Rel: 03 Mar 17
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Dance Tonight (4:07)
  2. Dance Tonight (Disco dub) (4:03)
Review: Currently laying down soul as 77 Karat Gold, Nobuyuki Suzuki finds time to beam back to Eglo as Sauce81 with a stunning boogie jam that's got summer well and truly locked in its targets. Cruising the Central Line in an inimitable loose, swinging way, there's magic to be found between the synth melody and juicy slapbass. Complete with a floor-focussed dub, this will have everyone dancing, guaranteed.

IP Addy
IP Addy (7")
Cat: EGLO 83. Rel: 19 May 22
Techno
  1. IP Addy (3:12)
  2. Crumb Tail (2:16)
  3. A New Way Of Looking At An Old Place (1:54)
Review: The irrepressible Shy One steps up with the first in a new series of 7"s on Eglo that are as ever, hard to define. 'IP Addy' opens up with scruffy beats and clipped vocal samples, twisted acid bass and hurried rhythms. There is more squelchy acid on 'Crumb Tail' which has a skeletal and minimal rhythm and all manner of abstract sounds and modular synth effects. It's a drum work out that goes deep as well as being nice and hefty for the dance floor. 'A New Way Of Looking At An Old Place' closes out with some nice tripped out and serene electro with splashy hits and wispy lead synth that disappears off into the future.
