Cat: ED 18. Rel: 06 Jun 16
  1. Asymmetric (6:02)
  2. Dice (6:09)
  3. Bad Girl (6:25)
  4. Filtered Light (4:53)
Review: Mathieu Cle's Closed Paradise follows up his superb Masterworks release earlier this year with another delicate, deep and downright heady EP. This time four tracks are in the offing, each one as robust and loopy as the last; from the slippery bass slaps of "Asymmetrical" and the crowd's whoops and hollers on "Dice" right through the teasing piano and vocal echo loops on "Bad Girl" and the slower, sexier deep disco funk of "Filtered Light", Cle's understanding of DJ dynamics and dancefloor desires are as chiselled as possible... Good times guaranteed.

  1. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Moonlite" (6:27)
  2. Duff Disco - "Always On My Mind" (6:38)
  3. Buzz Compass - "U Deserve It" (6:01)
  4. Get Down Edits - "Hey (Whats Happening)" (5:46)
Review: On this latest must-have missive, the Editorial crew has assembled an all-star cast of re-editors and house-loving disco rework merchants. Thrillingly, it contains a now rare outing from slo-mo specialist Duff Disco, whose atmospheric, beatdown style chugger "Always on My Mind" is undoubtedly one of the best things he's released in years. Props, too, to Irish disco-house specialists Get Down Edits, who weigh in with the warm and summery grooves of "Hey (What's Happening)". Elsewhere, Buzz Compass subtly beefs up and filters out a sleazy disco favourite on the constantly rising "U Deserve It", while Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee get the party started in their inimitable style via a touch of disco/hip-hop fusion ("Moonlite").

Love & Shake EP (red vinyl 12")
Cat: ED 13. Rel: 25 May 15
  1. Shake It Loose (7:18)
  2. House Shaker (6:27)
  3. Endless Love (6:25)
  4. Sweet Love (4:42)
Review: Arriving on a most luscious tone of red vinyl, the latest Editorial 12" comes from regular contributors Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee and will prove to be of much use to any jobbing disco selectors out there. Up first, "Shake It Loose" finds Ed and Dee teasing out a cooing vocal sample and some loving Philly strings over a bumping disco beat whilst "House Shaker" sees them really working the delay and filter effects. Down below, "Endless Love" has a sultry '80s vibe to it with some silky vocals worthy of Curtis Mayfield and the lolloping grooves of "Sweet Love" more than live up to its name.

  1. Rains Over Occident (6:25)
  2. Walkin' In The Sunshine (7:05)
  3. Free To Give (6:20)
  4. Solitary Sex (7:02)
Review: Lyon-dwelling deep house producer Ethyene was undoubtedly one of the stars of 2017, delivering a string of hazy, dusty and saucer-eyed singles for the likes of Kolour Ltd and Moonrise Hill Material. Here he surfaces on Editorial with a fine selection of smoldering deep house-tinted disco reworks. He begins with the lolloping, loved-up sweetness of "Rains Over Occident", where glistening jazz guitar solos and warm chords recline over a laidback house groove, before charging towards disco dancefloors via the '80s soul-meets-jazz-funk shuffle of "Walkin' In The Sunshine". On the flip he turns a smooth modern soul love jam into an exquisite chunk of jazzy deep house ("Free To Give") and showcases his love of Rhodes-heavy broken beat on closer "Solitary Sex".

  1. Don't Care (7:06)
  2. Raw Data (6:48)
  3. I Can Be You (6:47)
  4. You Can't Play That (6:22)
Review: Guillermo Gonzalez aka Hotmood is a funk/disco producer from Mexico. Recently on fire with a string of releases for the labels Star Creature, Whiskey Disco and Tugboat Edits, Hotmood shows no sign of letting up with four more disco edits for the London based Editorial label. "Don't Care" is a certain sought after classic from 1979 which has previously been a favourite of Joey Negro. On the flip, there's one that will really appeal to those in the know on the saucy and electric boogie-down jam "I Can Be You" that sampled the same hook as a certain J.B. Boogie hit from a little while back. Finally he offers up a right lo-slung gem in the form of "You Can't Play That". This slo-mo jam is so funky and looped to perfection. A bunch of respectful edits for those that know their disco history and for serious DJ use only!

  1. Lonely Boy & Random Soul - "Girls Girls Girls"
  2. The Cosmic Playerz - "Get It Right"
  3. Matt Hughes - "Star System"
  4. BG Baarregaard - "Hypnotic Groove"
Review: Fresh original funk from the Editorial crew, once again. Oozing organic elements, rich instrumentation and slow, steady hooks, each of these four cuts are so fine-tuned for the summer it's ridiculous. Lonely Boy & Random Soul initiate proceedings with a Bootsy-level funk salvo, all whispers, juicy bass and a groove that rises and rises and rises. The Cosmic Playerz follow suit with the best collaboration Chromeo and Daft Punk have never done. Matt Hughes gets all slinky and filtered and finally BG Baareegaard ends the show with slug-like jack that's peppered with lo-fi disco samples and strange warped trippy twangs. Genuinely beautiful.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot EP (brown vinyl 12")

  1. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Peoples Groove" (7:53)
  2. Matt Hughes - "Sunshine" (6:11)
  3. The Owl - "Pimp Talk" (6:38)
  4. Rahaan - "Fine Feelings" (7:30)
Review: Editorial Records return with more disco infused flavours from around the world. These four nice and slow re-edits are sure fire weapons for any disco DJs crate. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee take on Brass Construction much like Venus did on Sunshine People 15 years ago for another nice re edit. Matt Hughes' "Sunshine" is an equally good effort; wait for the drop! "Pimp Talk" by The Owl retains the sleazy grooves of the original and Rahaan's take on fine boogie workout 'Feeling Fine' does the business, as always.
