That came some 1000 days ahead of the album itself which has now finally arrived and has soon won over fans. It's great to have the pari of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty back working together as older, wiser men, but happily their music has lost none of the urgency it had when they were drug loving youths. They defined a specific period in UK music culture back at the turn of the millennium and are now back for more with All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which according to frontman Pete Doherty happened "in a moment of rare peace". Lead single 'Run Run Run' has already performed well brings both lots of raw riffs, raucous energy and some of the superb songwriting they were famous for first time around.

Review: Despite her superstar status, gained in the years following her 2002 debut, Norah Jones has refused to stick to the same musical script, instead choosing a wide range of collaborators while applying her song writing talents to a variety of genres. On Visions, she's once again evolved her sound further in cahoots with producer Leon Michels - founder of revivalist funk-soul stable Big Crown Records and long-time member of the Dap-Kings. What's on offer is pleasingly fuzzy and nostalgic in tone, with the pair conjuring up songs and sound worlds rooted in late 60s garage-soul, psychedelic dream pop, and a brand of Americana rooted as much in black American music as country. Review: American alternative rockers and, if you're anything like us, teenage favourites the Smashing Pumpkins, dropped their second album Siamese Dream in July of 1993. Frontman and vocalists Billy Corgan produced it with Butch Vig and the sessions were reportedly marked by difficulties and tensions but that didn't stop the record from debuting at number ten on the Billboard chart and going on to be certified quadruple Platinum. For the way it brings alt-rock, metal, shoegaze, indie and psychedelic influences to commercial rock it is often regarded as a gold standard of its era with high production values and ornate arrangements at odds with many of its peers.

Review: The original sleazy stars of the synth-pop boom, Soft Cell made their presence felt in an instant when they debuted with Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret and their perennial classic cover of Northern Soul standard 'Tainted Love'. Marc Almond and Dave Ball had a widescreen vision of what their music represented, leaning in on a neon-lit, night-walking vision of early 80s Britain which was more candidly outrageous than most were prepared for. But for all the subversion contained in this all time classic of the era, the pop nous is stronger and that's why they managed to be hugely successful no matter how high they waved the freak flag.
