Review: Chicago legend DJ Clent is enjoying something of a renaissance, with increased interest in his seminal late '90s singles for Dance Mania leading to the release of the well received Hyper Feet 12" on Planet Mu. Remarkably, Last Bus To Lake Park is his debut album, and arrives some 18 years after he first surfaced on Dance Mania. It's something of an unpolished gem, too, with Clent melding raw, footwork and ghetto-tech inspired rhythms with a variety of weird and wonderful influences - including, bizarrely, a swinging hip-op remake of the theme from Super Mario Brothers. For the most part, Clent gets the balance right, with jazz, soul, IDM, ambient and early jungle touches doing much to invigorate his skittish, full-throttle dancefloor rhythms.
