Review: Arte Moderno was a short-lived outfit from the Canary Islands who scored an underground dancefloor hit in 1982 with the spaced-out punk-funk/new wave/dub disco grooves of "Ninette En New York" before all but disappearing. Here, we finally get a chance to hear what else they were up to, as Musica Cabeza - the debut album they recorded but then shelved in 1982, finally gets a release. It's a quietly impressive set, all told, offering up tracks that doff a cap to the likes of Talking Heads, Woo, Konk and Bauhaus, while also offering a fresh take on electric/electronic post-punk fusion. Had it been released when it was recorded there's no doubt it would have become an underground classic; now that it's finally seen the light of day, we can confirm it's every bit as good as we'd hoped for.

Review: The Barcelona based Domestica Records continue to impress with their reissue programme, switching the focus to 1980s Australia and Melbourne group Artificial Organs. Evolving out of the city's avant-garde scene centred in creative incubator The Organ Factory, Artificial Organs were formed by Ian Forrest and Laurie McRae and with the help of musician friends (including a young Crowded House band member Nick Seymour) explored the potentials of innovative consumer tools for music and recording including Casio keyboards and drum machines, Korg synthesizers, Syndrums and the Akai four-track, quarter inch tape deck. Momenti Mori was the group's sole release, collating recordings from these sessions held between 1980-81 on a ten track cassette which appears in full on this wonderful reissue from Domestica.

Review: Originally a folk guitarist from Baltimore in the 1960's, Gary Blanchard's musical career only took off twenty years later with something totally different and unexpected. Something that may have been too far ahead of its time back in the 80s, but that sounds just right hearing it in 2016. Entitled Original Soundtrack, this is Blanchard's only LP and is about as far from folk as techno is from classical; there's a similarity in texture and mood, perhaps, but the construction of the songs are a world apart. Coming out through Spain's excellent Domestica label, Gary Blanchard's album is a one-off piece of minimal experimentation of the highest calibre. It is drenched in a familiar 80's romanticism and melancholia, but tunes like "Polyester From Hell", or "Technology Mythology" are blissful drum machine experiments that look in every possible direction in terms of influences. Check it, there's some gold in there.

Review: Back in the 80s and 90s, Andrew Szava-Kovats used to go by the name of Dominion, an alias which was bourn out of the rise of electro across the USA and mainland Europe. Through a series of cassettes and slabs of vinyl, the artist manages to remain largely in the shadows while still receiving the praise and respect of the diggers. Spain's excellent Domestica imprint comes through with a much-needed reissue of the man's opening piece of work from 1985, a tape by the name of Where Muses Dwell. Originally out through K.O. City Studio, this is the very first time that this music resides on vinyl, which is a marvel in itself considering just how uber-pioneering it really is. We've tagged this particular LP as cold wave because, in fact, there is a lack of structure to many of these tracks, and that's exactly what makes them alluring to the trained or untrained ear. You can do yourself a favour by forgetting about all that new-school synth-tronica, and getting your vibes here this week. These won't stick around long, so be sure to cop a copy...

Review: Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, or simply known as LAS's Crime around the digging circles, were an Italian cold wave duo who formed at the tail-end of 1984 and produced a timeless bunch of EP's and LP's which have become heavily sought after in the last few years. Luckily, Spain's excellent Domestica label have herein compiled the very best from the duo, an eleven track showcase of the band's top productions from the years between 1985 and 1989. As you'd expect, the bulk of the compilation is made up of fast-paced drum machines patters glazed in the era's melancholic sound, where winding, lonesome vocals glide and wash over the Kraftwerk-style beats. There are even bursts of early electro within, such as the gnarly "Five Lies", and more experimental moments like "Dark Orris" or the EBM-charged "Flax Girl Room". Wonderfully DIY and a much added addition to any romantic's collection.

Review: Much like their contemporaries, labels like Mannequin or Dark Entries, Barcelona's Domestica Records have become experts in sussing out rare and inaccessible gear from the 80s and 90s. We are, of course, talking about all things post-punk and dark wave, which makes the search for the perfect repress even harder, perhaps. This time, we've been graced with the presence of Lost Desert and Spleen Ideal, two acts from the late 80s and early 90s who both crafted the cold wave sound into the pearl of lust and romanticism that it has become known as. Between both outfits on here, there is so much glorious music to get stuck into - moving, melancholic and liberating all at the same time.

Review: Under the Maquina Total guise, Catalonian producer Virgili Jubero has previously delivered a couple of decent releases, most notably last year's debut cassette for Domestica Records. Here, he returns to that label with Estatua, his debut album. It's a quietly impressive set, full of melancholic, emotion-rich downtempo synth-pop that sits somewhere between the Pet Shop Boys most touching moments (see 1990's Behaviour album), Brian Ferry and the Fairlight-driven works of Kate Bush. He sings in both English and Spanish, with a lilting delivery that evokes memories of British art-pop bands of old. Jubero is a fine songwriter and producer, and Estatua is an album that rewards repeat listens.

Review: Repress alert! Gary Ramon's Modern Art project was ludicrously slept-on until the lovely folks at Domestica decided to unearth some of his most singular work from the mid-1980's. This is post-punk and new wave at its most bold, where drum machine rhythms get chewed up and spat-out by lonesome riffs and dreary vocals. There's plenty of winners on here, and amongst those, we're particularly fond of "Fatal Crash Immersed The Start" for its heavy beats and electro-like melodies, and "Search For A Soul" largely for the same reasons! If you're into Drexciya, Transslusion etc then you'll hear some interesting stuff in here!

Review: The mythical Transdance from UK duo Night Moves is given a much needed official repress by Domestica Records and the Barcelona label have spared no expense. A limited pressing of 400 10"s come housed in hand screen printed sleeves accompanied by a leaflet with complete biography of the band. Despite the paucity of Night Moves discography, it's clear the duo of Michael Guihen and John Davis have had an everlasting effect on the canon of synth music with their much admired debut. Transdance was originally released as a limited 12" white label in 1981, finding favour on the dance floors of Europe and New York City yet never really gained the wider exposure it richly deserved. Original copies of the GC1 pressing of Transdance still command slightly ridiculous prices on Discogs so kudos to Domestica for this rather special presentation which features a previously unreleased demo cut "Life Up" on the flip.

Review: Domestica continues its on-going trawl through the archives of S.M Nurse, an Amsterdam-based synth-wave trio who recorded a serious amount of material between 1980 and '83 before all but vanishing. That's The Body gathers together a quartet of dancefloor-friendly excursions. On the A you'll find the stylized minimal wave/electrofunk fusion of "That's The Body" and wavy, high-tempo thrust of "Off & On", both of which originally appeared on the band's earliest release. On the flip you'll find two previously unreleased versions of similarly vintage tracks: the alien synths, woozy B-52s vocals and tough machine drums of "Mort Automatique", and the hazy melancholy of "Frutta", which boasts a particularly druggy arpeggio bassline.

Review: Barcelona's excellent archival label Domestica dip their knowledgeable toes into the dusty back catalogue of mid '80s West Yorkshire industrial troopers Son Of Sam on the first of several reissues. You'll probably know Son Of Sam for the group's massively futuristic sounding "Nature Makes A Mistake" which got a timely 12" pressing from Running Back in 2011. The Collapse Of Ancient Funk Vol 1 is a great introduction to their back catalogue, presenting a selection of tracks from The Collapse Of Ancient Funk (1984-85 A.D.) a super rare tape issued by Final Image back in 1985. This first volume focuses on the band's vocal tracks, with the sleazed out industrial disco of "Carnal Knowledge" setting a tone that doesn't relent as the five track release progresses. If you are a fan of CHBB, Charles Manier, Das Ding or early Cabaret Voltaire you should definitely investigate this.

Review: Barcelona-based Domestica deserves praise for releasing a second instalment of left of centre music from 80s band Son of Sam. The metallic drums and cut-up samples on "Hothouse" sound like a warped take on Art of Noise, while "Second Wasted Second" combines Siouxsie Sioux wails with white boy funk and wah wah guitar. In stark contrast are the noisy blasts and ambient, swirling sounds of "Come Here, Handsome", but it's only a temporary divergence as the Linn Drum kicks back in on the electro funk of "Playground" and "You Got Me". It makes for one of this year's more endearing reissues.

Review: Terminal, Barcelona's answer to Wire or Cabaret Voltaire, represent everything that was great about the 80s: musical freedom, total peculiarity and a stubbornness to conform to notions of 'classic' music. Taken from a bunch of recordings made between 1981-1982, this is a sort of best-of, or homage to the band, if you like. What's most interesting about it is it's freneticism and musical chaos, where some have even labelled it as 'techno-punk' - an apt description if you ask us...! Check it for yourself, it's an utter doozy.

Review: Barcelona based post-punk retroverts Domestica plunder the tombs again and (re) present Spanish act Tiempo 555, a band of electronic pop persuasion from Spain active between 1982-1984. The name refers to the electronic chip 555, a famed time control device used in many of the SAM synthesizer circuits. The music presented here is restored from vinyl and cassette formats. "La Vuelta" shows off some charming arpeggio driven synthpop reminiscent of Kraftwerk, while the raw and noticeably live rendition of "Semillas Del Sol" shows the passion and energy that came through at their seminal performances back in the day. "Siguelo" (Maqueta version) channels the camp hi-NRG of Giorgio Moroder or Bobby Orlando.

As the title suggests Domestic Landscape (Subterranean Synth-Wave Compilation) draws on a cast of lesser known curios from days gone by that the label deem worthy of contemporary reassessment. Domestic Landscape gathers together tracks from 10 acts with the majority sourced from highly limited cassette releases, complemented by some unreleased demo material and presented in physical format for the first time. Followers of Domestica will recognise some of the acts featured, with Yorkshire synth brutes Son Of Sam, Devon act A Haunted Sawmill, Swedish new wavers MoB Garten and Dutch duo No Honey From These all present.

Review: Overseen by resident selector DJ Sandman, Transmission is a monthly party in Barcelona that acts as a local focal point for all things post punk, cold wave and new wave. With the night a growing success since it's foundation back in late 2011, DJ Sandman have teamed up with the excellent Domestica label to present a second anniversary compilation that features ten acts that should offer those inquisitive minds some insight into the ebb and flow of a Transmission night. Oakland trio Seacrypt open proceedings with the ethereal minimal synth of "Glass Eye" and from here the compilation zips through the feedback drench post punk of French expressionist Madmoizel, London synth wavers Phosphor and Italian duo Schonwald whose delay-laden "Treasure" lives up to it's title and then some. A fine document for Transmission and Domestica!

We're in love with every track on here, and we're not exaggerating, this gear is of the highest calibre, and all very much relevant in a DJ nowadays. Think Optimo in the midst of a smokey, mid-morning set in a dark basement, and you're almost there. Track upon track of solid gold discofied industrial music. Killer; highly recommended.

Review: Domestica presents a vinyl version of Oscar's X-mas Carols. For this album's tracklist, Jordi Serrano and Oscar Smit made a personal selection from the three previous cassettes which were originally released on Christmas Day 1984, 1985 and 1987 respectively by Smit's imprint Noel Tapes in Holland. The 15 tracks here are a selection of the best tracks of these three cassettes, mastered from the originals by Ruud '66' Lekx. It also features a cover painting by Max Kisman, laminated translucent sleeve and is hand stamped. Complete with dossier including liner notes by Smit, band bios, photos and download code, it's allegedly the only experimental Christmas compilation ever published.
