You (limited gold vinyl 12")
Cat: DDD 07T. Rel: 24 Jul 18
Drum And Bass
  1. You (5:18)
  2. King Of The Beats (7:06)
Review: Dom returns to his Dubs Dungeon once again and re-opens the Dillinja crypt for two more long-coveted dubplates. "You" is fresh from 94 with subs so thick and misty they'll freeze you to your bones and breaks so sharply edited you now have pierced ears just reading this short review, this was a major missile for the AWOL massive. "King Of The Beats" is a year or two deeper into Dillinja's unmatchable discography with a killer b-boy sample, rocket fuel drums and a waspy bassline that stings from a 10 mile radius. Jungle royalty.

Drum And Bass
  1. Can't Punish Me (6:41)
  2. Can't Punish Me (Dubplate mix) (5:41)
Review: Let's dance! One of Dom & Roland's most brazenly funky tracks turns 20 this year and he's given it a cheeky limited press 1-up. With its crucial sample craft, oceanic waves of breakbeats and 1.21 gigawatt bass shreds, "Can't Punish Me" is still an absolute weapon two decades later. As is the previously unreleased dubplate version that gives the track a whole new suit of drum armour and much more dramatic and fleeting use of the sample. What do you live for?

Beach Bum (12")
Cat: DRP 018T. Rel: 16 Apr 19
Drum And Bass
  1. Beach Bum (6:53)
  2. Dred Sound (5:20)
Review: Glass in hand and bottle within easy reach, Dominic Angas - and his trusty Roland hardware - is ready to give us a taste of the good (Beach Bum) life. As you'd expect, the track itself is blessed with punchy, floor-pounding D&B drums and fuzzy, bowel bothering bass, but it's the other sonic elements he fixes to them - most notably some languid, Peter Green style electric guitar solos and the calming sound of lapping waves - that make the audio brew so potent. Given the track's intended Caribbean connections, it seems fitting that flipside "Dred Sound" is a bombastic stepper smothered in ragga MC vocal samples, paranoid noises and sub-bass so weighty that it could shake the foundations of even the sturdiest Jamaican rum warehouse.

  12. State Of The Art (5:42)
Review: Album number eight from the big man himself monsieur Dom et la Roland, and it's got mighty big shoes to fill as it follows his incredible "Last Refuge Of A Scoundrel" on Metalheadz. Never one to tread the same old path, it doesn't just fill the shoes, it goes and buys and a whole new pair. Much more stripped back and militant than its predecessor, tracks like "Sandcrawler" and "Zeppelin" take us right back to the Moving Shadow source in their austere, grizzlesome steppy nature while "A Broken Heart" recalls Dom's more emotional side. All bases covered and all eras touched on, once again Dom's delivered a timeless, authentic body of work.
