  1. Baila Morena (4:13)
  2. Cumbia Sin Calzones (3:30)
Review: Straight outta Puebla, Los Daddys let rip with two more unique future cumbia jams. "Baila Morena" runs with energetic gusto, synth-toms and tongue-in-cheek announcer effects breaking up the tradition cumbian vocals. "Cumbia Sin Calzones" slows down the tempo but adds heavy organ dynamics that march with a sense of matrimony... You're walking down the aisle but you have no idea what you're walking in to. One of a kind.

La Cumbia Para El Pueblo (coloured vinyl 7" (comes in different coloured vinyl, we cannot guarantee which one you will receive))
Cat: MAS 016. Rel: 14 Jun 17
International
  1. La Cumbia Para El Pueblo (4:38)
  2. Las Cuerdas De Ayotzinapa (3:47)
Review: Though we don't get to see them perform much in the UK, Los Daddys have a reputation as one of the most impressive contemporary cumbia bands around. The high regard in which they're held is as much a reflection of their eccentric, 21st century approach to the traditional style as their energetic performances. This pleasingly modern approach is much in evidence on A-side "La Cumbia Para El Puebo", where live and electronic cumbia beats are joined by crunchy guitar licks and rapped Spanish vocals. In contrast, flipside "Las Cuerdas De Ayotzinapa" is an altogether more traditional affair - despite the odd, pitched down vocal yelps and Just Brothers surf guitar lines - with the action being focused around some killer drum work.

La Vida Es Un Carnaval (red vinyl 7")
Cat: MAS 011. Rel: 01 Mar 16
International
  1. La Vida Es Un Carnaval (3:24)
  2. La Vida Es Un (version) (3:44)
Review: Roboticized, contemporised, synthesized: Oakland up-and-comers Los Disco Duro repurpose cumbia styles with a quirky electronic charm that sits somewhere between Daft Punk and Senor Coconut. Their third single to date, "La Vida Es Un Carnaval" packs vocodered vocals in harmonic layers as syncopated synths provide the heel-clicking, street swinging beat. Flip for a slightly darker version where the vocals are removed in favour of more floor-focused drums and added twisted calypso feels. Unique.

  1. Trik-O-Tri (4:08)
  2. La Arana De Chocolate (3:58)
Review: The latest eccentric chunk of 21st century cumbia from the Disco Mas camp has a not-so-subtle Halloween theme. A-aside "Trik-O-Tri" is, as the name suggests, a tongue-in-cheek cumbia tribute to the process of door-to-door sweet scrounging, whose hybrid electronic/acoustic groove is laden with spooky synth flourishes and all manner of silly vocals. It's one of those tracks that is simply impossible to dislike. On the flipside, the previously unheard combo unveils "La Arana De Chocolate", a head-nodding cumbia cut rich in ghostly melodies whose fuzzy vocals tell a tale of a spider made of confectionary. As a bonus, the track ends in a locked groove to allow for longer mixes and impromptu bouts of Colombian MCing.

Pulsatron (marbled vinyl 7" in hand-stamped sleeve)
Cat: MAS 021. Rel: 22 Aug 18
International
  1. Pulsatron (3:49)
  2. Maestro Del Kiosco (4:10)
Review: The latest essential missive on San Francisco-based Cumbia label Discos Mas comes from a previously unheard artist: confirmed vintage drum machine and fuzzy psych-guitar lover Pancrudo. The producer's vinyl debut, which has been pressed in limited numbers on gorgeous marbled vinyl, includes two impressively retro-futurist workouts. Check first languid and decidedly psychedelic A-side "Pulsatron", a hip-hop tempo kaleidoscopic dream that sounds like Harry Nillson after a few too many swigs of liquid acid and a fistful of hallucinatory chili peppers. Pancrudo returns to his cumbia roots on flipside "Maestro Del Kiosco", which wraps wonderfully fuzzy, boogaloo-era guitars round a shuffling rhythm track.
