Music For Machines Part 2
John BELTRAN/VARIOUS
Cat: DSR D1LP2. Rel: 16 Jan 15
Ambient/Drone
  1. Natalie Beridze - "Winter Boredom"
  2. Greg Chin - "Dashboard Angels"
  3. Sons Of Melancholia - "For Val"
  4. John Beltran - "2093"
  5. Mick Chillage - "Only In My Dreams"
  6. Vincent Volt - "Subway Arp"
  7. Winer Flags - "1993"
  8. Gacha Bakradze - "Mississippi" (Joohn Beltran on guitar & bass)
  9. A2B2C2 - "Stereometry"
Review: John Beltran has curated two compilations for Delsin called Music For Machines and part two sees the American artist dig deep once again. A fathoming and soulful "Waterfall Winds" opens this second instalment and sets a cool, effervescent tone for what's to come; a collection of lo-fi synths, crackling, motionless field recordings, emotive ambiences, Wolfgang Voigt-like electro-classicalisms and Steve Reich influences. Beltran's own production "2093" is new age and spacey, and given the right context is truly an overwhelming piece of music.

Review: Since debuting in the late 1990s, Simon Whalley has proved to be one of the most skilful creators of melodious, atmospheric and intricate IDM around. In that time, he's released countless killer EPs and a handful of albums, 2000's Reference being the pick of a very strong bunch. Wisely, Delsin have chosen to deliver a new vinyl pressing of that said, a gorgeously deep and detailed dive into the limitless musical potential of that classic IDM sound, which as those with long memories know mixed and matched elements of electro, techno, ambient and experimentalism. This edition includes all 24 tracks from the original CD version, rather than the truncated first vinyl pressing, and thanks to a sparkling re-master, sounds as exciting and entertaining as ever.

Mirror Maze
Cat: INERTIA 10. Rel: 29 Aug 22
Techno
  1. Buddy
  2. Lemur
  3. Mirror Maze
  4. Gambler
Review: Yan Cook steps away from his Cooked label with another hefty offering of fulsome techno, this time on his other regular label, Delsin. As always with this man, this is powerful peak time techno with great functionality but also plenty of form. Tolling kicks and wall-rattling chords come together in various different ways as he gets dancing on the bumpy 'Buddy' before 'Lemur' brings more serene and dubby vibes. 'Mirror Maze' is a mind-altering affair and 'Gambler' then layer sup fat synth undulations with smooth drums and vast wet clasp. Lovely stuff.

Love Dubs EP
Cat: 81DSR/YBS 3. Rel: 19 May 10
Techno
  1. Higher Love
  2. Love (dub)
  3. Soul Surrender
Review: For those of you that remember "Energize," Yoav’s underground anthem from five years back, then news of his revival will be a source of great pleasure to your soul. Many have been perplexed by his disappearance during the past few years, left only with his seminal track’s appearance on compilations from Ame, Carl Craig and Delsin II. But now, the Israeli producer makes a welcomed return with his fifth full length single, the Love Dubs EP.

Opening with "Higher State," Yoav gets off to a hazy start. Dramatic synth lines topple over lazy house beats as the track winds itself along, gaining momentum as it goes. 80s influenced synths flash across the track to add yet more drama in this rolling workout. "Lovedub" takes the listener on more of a freestyle jam, as a simple filtered bassline moves along as disjointed beats shuffle forward. The real fun and intrigue however, lies in the spacey keys that cascade over the track beneath. "Soul Surrender" finishes things off in a grittier, more driving tone. With the beat cranked up and the driving, deep bass set to work this is more of a heads down number that gets moving. A simple melody breaks the drama of the track, leaving the listener locked in the groove instead. Top stuff, and yes, it was worth the wait.

Analogue Expressions

  5. The Vineyard (Moving mix) (7:59)
  6. Foreign Dimensions (6:37)

  8. A Touch Of Heaven (9:13)
  9. Sea Of Tranquility (6:19)
  10. The Vineyard (reprise) (4:00)
  11. Revival (7:25)
Review: During the early-to-mid 1990s, Stefan Robbers released some of the most inspired techno to come out of the Netherlands during the period, mostly under the Florence pseudonym on the Eevo Lute Muzique label he co-founded in 1991. This fine triple-vinyl compilation from Delsin tells the tale of both artist and label, drawing together the best of Robbers' work for the label. You'll find extensive liner notes from fine techno scribe Oli Warwick on the accompanying insert, but it's the music - a mixture of sci-fi flavoured club cuts, dreamy and melodious electronica, heady ambient techno, and tactile, loved-up rhythmic soundscapes - that makes "Analogue Expressions" such an essential listen.

Carry On In My Name
Carry On In My Name (orange marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: DSRE 13. Rel: 14 Apr 22
Electro
  1. Lotek (7:47)
  2. Lion (6:34)
  3. Bassline (5:15)
  4. Carry On In My Name (5:27)
Review: Although he rarely speaks about the project in public, His Master's Voice is the itechno alias of underground deep house producer (and sometime Raw Soul label contributor) Jaines Bomt. Carry On In My name sees the shadowy German producer return to Delsin for the first time in nearly three years. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the breathlessly up-tempo, broken techno rhythms and filthy analogue bass of 'Lotek' and the '90s ambient techno-influenced deep space wooziness of 'Lion', to the Motor City electro-futurism of 'Bassline' and the Autechre-at-their-most-melodic flex of 'Carry On In My Name'.

Techno
  1. Satyricon (9:04)
  2. Hydroxy (5:53)
  3. Draghixia (6:25)
Review: Steve Rachmad is of course the Dutch veteran behind the STERAC alias, which continues to be a source of great to delight to fans of classic era, scintillatingly soulful and warm, machine-made techno. His huge body of work gets pillaged again here for a new Ep of treats on Delsin who have oversee the most recent reissues. All the cuts have all been remastered and the sought after titles include the futuristic depths of 'Satyricon,' silky electro workout that is 'Hydroxy' with its twitchy synths and rubber bass and 'Draghixia', a melodic and eerie work out to close down.

The End Of Fiction EP

Techno
  1. Blazing Star (7:08)
  2. Unreality (6:27)
  3. Ideodelika (6:32)
  4. Hazy Suns (5:50)
Review: First and foremost, big up to Delsin, the quiet Dutch workhorse of the global electronic underground, a staple of the last 20 years now an incredible 150 releases deep. They mark the occasion in the only way they know how - with some damn good and timeless music. Voiski is the man behind the beats and this EP opens with a lush wall of falling melody and crispy techno grooves. Unreality is another archetypal Delsin cut with dusty machine grooves, emotive synths and the night amount of past, present and future all in one track. 'Ideodelika' brings deeper, more streamlined and hypnotic techno sounds while 'Hazy Suns' mixes up Detroit and trance styles.

Amb Kombat
Cat: INERTIA 09. Rel: 14 Apr 22
Techno
  1. 30C Weisse Waesche (5:52)
  2. Golf (5:09)
  3. N-Kombat (4:32)
  4. Rauchen (4:56)
Review: Inertia is a dancefloor orientated off shoot of the mighty Dutch label Delsin and it has been quietly going about its business for many years now. Lennart Wiehe is the next to offer his wares and does so with a super deep and mystic EP that kicks off with '30C Weisse Waesche.' It is shrouded in misty pads and then 'Golf' layers drum loops, fizzing synths and more grainy textures while 'N-Kombat' then ups the ante with a more direct techno sound and glitchy dystopian textures. 'Rauchen' closes out this classy and diverse EP with a real pale beaten techno classic that will get any club sweating.
