Review: David Moufang, Gunter Kraus, Jamie Hodge, Jonas Grossmann, and Karl Berger make for an exquisite new partnership on Demdike Stare's DDS - Distort, Decay, Sustain. In reality, the quintet have already appeared on several extended releases, for the likes of KM 20, back in the late 90s, and for the now defunct Buro imprint, in more recent years. "Earprints" is an undefinable piece of work, predominantly focused on transmitting its own aesthetic rather than making a statement with anything brash. The five musicians are clearly bound together by their love for jazz, which permeates every single second of this record, twisting and turning with the aid of the Germans' clean-cut precision on both the percussion and the general arrangement of these memorable experiments. Yes, DDS!

Review: Jamaica's Equiknoxx have spent the last decade re-inventing dancehall for the 21st century, delivering a swathe of releases that look further afield than Kingston for inspiration. Bird Sound Power is, somewhat surprisingly, their first appearance on vinyl, and sees them pop up on Demdike Stare's experimentally-minded DDS imprint. Featuring a mix of brand new cuts and previously released - but largely unknown - jams, it's a set that impresses with both its' rhythmic dexterity, and its' obvious inventiveness. Their 'riddims' veer from the punchy and rolling to the weird and out-there, with cute electronic flourishes, IDM influences, ambient chords and trill birdsong all adding to the humid, thrill-a-minute mood.

Review: The UK's Mica Levi is back on our charts and much like last time, we expect these five glorious slices of drone-laden experimentation to fly out of here in record time. The supremely off-kilter waves of this new EP land on Demdike Stare's DDS imprint, now something of an institution for the odder side of electronica, and they couldn't be better placed anywhere else. That said, the noisy ambient glows of "Delete Beach (Japanese)", and the sparse, aqueous drum machine loops of "Interlude 1" are perhaps a step further out into the ether compared to the label's usual bag of tricks. On the B-side, the instrumental cut of "Delete Beach" morphs and develops beautifully for the entirety of the waxplate while, stretching to disc 2, "Interlude 2" catapults us into a world made up of sporadic pianos and Vengelian synths, leaving the English version of "Delete Beach" to unravel what was said on the A1.

Review: Prolific experimentalist Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe returns to Demdike Stare's quietly impressive DDS imprint, some 12 months on from his last outing on the label. Like many of the modular synthesizer and analogue hardware-loving artist's albums, Levitation Praxis: Part 4 (we're not sure what happened to parts one to three) is made up of two long, meandering and hugely atmospheric pieces. Intriguingly, these both use a human voice - largely the improvisations of a lone female singer, which are in turns haunting and enchanting - as much as Lowe's usual droning sonic textures, gently throbbing synthesizer figures and outboard effects. The results are naturally hugely impressive, though we'd expect nothing less from the one of electronic music's most distinctive composers.
