Review: Orior is a project with roots reaching back to the late 70s. It was picked up on by Demdike Stare's DDS label back in 2016, culminating in the "Strange Beauty" LP. Furtive bedroom studio kosmische styles abound on this follow-up, "Still Strange", which uses brittle drum machine patterns quaking in the echo chamber with raw guitar tones. There's a whiff of Durutti Column about the more forthright tracks, but there's also plenty of space afforded to more abstract, looming ambient pieces too. Steeped in the tradition of DIY post punk and caked in tape hiss, this is an evocative release with the bewitching atmospheric quality you'd expect from a Demdike-approved project.
