Review: Shadowy producer CEM3340 is probably best known for delivering three of the first five releases on Mr Blatman's Lunar Orbiter label, though we should probably be talking more about the Italian's own imprint, Curtis Electronix, which he founded last year in tribute to the inventor of the CEM synthesiser chip, Doug Curtis. "Suburbs Disorder" is CEM3340's most expansive release on the imprint to date - a seven-track romp that flits between aggressive club electro ("EXP"), Egyptian Lover style 808 funk ("In Your Club", "Take Control", "Jay"), spacey and melodious electro-techno fusion ("LNA"), metallic and mind-altering slow jams ("War Of Worlds") and Artificial Arm style kaleidoscopic electro workouts ("Timeless Transmission").

Review: Curtis Electronix is a brand new electro label out of Holland (where else?) run by CEM3340. The label is said to be is inspired by Doug Curtis, the father of the "CEM" chip as well as being a synthesizer pioneer and innovator, and the boss himself is behind this notable first EP. His brand of electro is a crunchy one, with distorted drums frying brains and computerised synth arps jagging their way about the mix. Next to three busy, textured originals is a remix from The Exaltics that is as raw as they come.

Review: For our money, some of the best electro in the world comes out of the Netherlands, and it has done foursome time. It's not just the famous West Coast sound out of The Hague that's worth checking in with either as labels and artists all over the flat lands seem to excel. Here we have CEM3340 in blistering form across four sides of vinyl on the Curtis Electronic label. e covers plenty of ground from cyborg funk to rugged techno-infused bangers, always with pummeling drum programming and lithe, bright synth work that almost makes your eyes water.

Infinite Tetraspace
Cat: CRTSX 011. Rel: 19 Mar 24

Electro
Programmable Organism (5:31)
Entity From Tetraspace (4:58)
Tachyon Intelligence (3:59)
Computronium (6:03)
Review: It's no wonder Dopplereffekt named their latest EP 'Inifinite Tetraspace'. For starters, a tetrahedron is a 3D triangular pyramid of equal lengths per side. A sine wave, meanwhile, is in auditory form considered the purest, most basic sound - it is also the graph produced by plotting all the ratio points between two sides of a triangle. The logical conclusion is this: infinite tetraspace might be considered the ultimate form of repetitive sound, carrying on forever, triangulating constantly in all directions, never ceasing. For all its vivid imaginings, Dopplereffekt's dualistic, stereo-effected sound carries on in full force on their latest EP for Curtis Electronix, tetra-scribing four icy, unsettling entities that may only be encountered in this special extra-conscious zone.

Electro
Destroy Your Future (Total Utter Control) (3:42)
Cognitive Warfare (3:51)
Do Not Be Programmed (5:27)

Fictional Norms (3:48)
Immediately Disperse (1:37)
Review: When a label names themselves after an iconic synthesizer chip, you know they mean business. Following releases from the likes of DJ Overdose and Detroit's Filthiest, Curtis Electronix welcome the mighty Galaxian to throw down some truly dystopian machine malfunctions on Destroy Your Future. If you're craving some fresh ideas in the electro scene, look no further as the masked wonder takes the sound right out to the edge without losing that electro essence. 'Destroy Your Future Total Utter Control' is a twitchy cut that seems to dissemble and reform right before your ears. 'Cognitive Warfare' has a sharper focus somewhere in the DJ Stingray spectrum, but this is still weird over functional. Here is the sound of an artist truly ignoring any notion of 'scene' and pressing on with their own twisted vision, and it's frankly mind-blowing.

Satellite LP
Cat: CRTSX 009. Rel: 26 Oct 22

Electro
Memory 3 (4:25)
Satellite (4:57)
Lets Groove (3:03)
Talk Memory (3:54)
Time Diver (2:39)
Eternity (1:59)
Horizon (6:25)
Review: Initially inspired by collaborative jam sessions at Curtis Electronix HQ, Satellite marks the debut of new outfit Gravity Waves, a trio comprising experienced electro producers Kalean, Z.I.P.P.O and CEM343. Musically, it owes a lot to the electro sound of Detroit - and the peerless Drexciya in particular - and could be seen as a whole-hearted tribute to the Motor City machine musicians who have inspired a lot of Europeans over the years. The trio hits the mark from the start, opening with a suitably heavy but spacey club cut ('Memory 3'), before doffing a cap to Cybotron ('Satellite') and rolling out a series of inspiring, high-grade cuts that tend towards the timeless. Arguably best of all though is 'Time Diver', which brilliantly joins the dots between driving futurist techno and the sub-aquatic sounds of Drexciya.
