Life Cycles
Cat: CE035 LP. Rel: 15 May 20

  9. Panda J (5:10)
Review: In 1995, The Advent - then a duo, now the solo project of founder member Cisco Ferreira - released debut album "Elements Of Life". Unlike some of the Advent material that followed, it wasn't all hard techno intensity, offering up just as much hard-wired electro futurism. New album "Life Cycles" doffs a cap to that set both in style and presentation, though it's all-electro approach is arguably more sonically similar to 2003's "Light Years Away". Ferreira's take on electro tends towards the tougher end of the spectrum, with weighty basslines and industrial-strength TR-808 drums being peppered with spacey sounds, bleeping melodies and foreboding acid lines. It's aggressive and dystopian rather than deep and melodic, keeping dancefloors in mind throughout. Crucially, it's also really good.

Overseer (12")
Cat: CE 037. Rel: 01 Feb 21
  1. Overseer (4:17)
  2. Plashingers (5:11)
  3. Vacuum Surfers (4:04)
  4. Diaspora (4:38)
Review: Cultivated Electronics klick off their 2021 schedule in fantastic fashion here with a new Ep from the legendary electronic innovator DMX Krew. He has a high rate of release but the quality levels never drop and so it is that this is another vital 12" for lovers of electro funk. It marks his first solo outing on the label and features plenty of his usual sonic wizardry. 'Overseer' ducks and dives through the cosmos on nimble kicks and between shattered melodies, and 'Plashingers' keeps up the pace with a darker, more techno leaning sound. 'Vacuum Surfers' is a pixelated melodic party in the sky and 'Diaspora' allows a little room to breath as it explores slower tempos.

We Continue Part 2
We Continue Part 2 (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: CELTD 007. Rel: 17 Sep 21
  1. Respect To The Drex (6:29)
  2. Return To Nazca (5:40)
  3. TT Drone (4:58)
  4. We Continue (5:27)
Review: If you didn't already know, Kerrie is a name to keep an eye on. She is a Manchester talent bring plenty of freshness to techno on her own label Cultivated Electronic, and is a well known face in the city's cult Eastern Bloc. She has also picked up praise from various media outlets and played notable gigs at Freerotation and The Warehouse Project. She pulls no punches here with 'Respect To The Drex' lacing a driving tech tune with Drexcyian electro. 'Return To Nazca' is an intergalactic techno assault with warped bass and scintillating melodies and theer is no let up on the crunchy, breaks-driven 'TT Drone.' Last but not least is the hurried drum funk of 'We Continue', making this another standout EP.

Expression Directe
Expression Directe (hand-stamped 12" repress)
Cat: CELTD 005. Rel: 08 Nov 21
  1. Expression Directe (4:52)
  2. TBX72 (6:15)
  3. Fixed Based Operator (4:57)
  4. Squawk (4:25)
Review: French veteran Maelstrom makes a notable debut here on Cultivated Electronics. The always precision groove specialist brings drive focus and intent to all four cuts, with the devastating funk of 'Expression Directe' opening in fierce fashion. 'TBX72' rides on buying drums, with whip-snapping synths flashing about the mix and coruscated textures bringing it further to life. There is both elastic drum work and musical synth touches to 'Fixed Based Operator' before 'Squawk' looks you in a gurgling baseline with slapping hits and wild acid sounds all popping right off

  9. Lightwire (6:52)
  10. Avoid The Ploid (5:56)
  11. Spatial Racing (10:20)
Review: London's Phil Bolland, known as Sync 24, finally serves up his much anticipated debut album Inside the Microbeat on Cultivated Electronics. It is a fully formed word of electro, IDM and interplanetary funk that plays out with a cinematic narrative. Some tracks soar to the stars, others get down and dirty in some rotting post-human wasteland. There are what sounds like mangled voices and haunting spirits stitched into the bump n grind of the title track while the likes of 'Solvent Flavours Revisited' is a soundtrack to cosmic warfare. Evocative stuff for sure.
