De Facto EP

Techno
Rhythm Control (XTC mix)
Zeta Wave
Revenge
Psyche
Review: Tom Carruthers is a genuine prodigy - a prolific producer of undeniably excellent techno, electro and house music whose expertly authentic nods to dance music's shared part belie his youthfulness. He's released on L.I.E.S in the past but has mostly put out music on his own Non-Stop Rhythm label. Here he makes his bow on the reliable Craigie Knowes imprint with a predictably good four-tracker. Predictably he's delivered the goods, first joining the dots between Joey Beltram, Chiago jack and LFO on 'Rhythm Control (XTC Mix)', before layering mind-mangling analogue electronics atop a heavy TR-909 techno beat on 'Zeta Wave'. 'Revenge' is moody, rolling and hypnotic, while 'Psyche' sees him once again pay tribute to his favourite genre of all, turn-of-the-90s bleep & bass.

Deep House
Woodwind (6:07)
Euphoria (7:06)
Anthem (6:03)
Hi-Tee (6:36)
Review: Fresh from dropping a killer double-pack on Mood Waves, the elctro, techno and 'future house' inclined 'Yearning For Cobalt', Italian twosome Data Memory Access make their bow on the consistently impressive Craigie Knowes. They set their stall out with 'Woodwind', where tight, psychedelic acid motifs and spacey lead lines ride a booming bassline and swinging, techno-tempo house drums, before joining the dots between acid-powered mid-90s progressive house and techno on the saucer-eyed excellence of 'Euphoria'. 'Anthem' is a trance-inducing epic that sounds like an unearthed gem from 1994, while 'Hi-Tee' is a dark, pulsating, bleep-sporting workout guaranteed to push energy levels skywards when played in the wee small hours.

Whomnp (6:30)
Frayed (6:22)
Transmission (5:39)
Review: DJ Life's music will invigorate any dancefloor you care to test it on. The Welcome label head DJ Life was also out on Program Earth back in summer and now heads over to the excellent Craigie Knowes for there more high class electronic trips. 'Whomnp' kicks off with a paced progressive techno mind melter that is wired up with screw synths and sci-fi motifs, while 'Frayed' has more psychedelic colours twisting and turning their way over filtered vocal fragments and supple drums. 'Transmission' closes down with stomping drum funk that is again lit up by some celestial melody.

Enervation (6:52)
Review: Craigie Knowes is a by-word for electronic quality and now Eluize keeps up that reputation with a mini-album that blends electro, techno, house and space age sounds into six superb cuts. 'Ennui' is the acid flecked opener which heads off into outer space on slippery electro and 'Wasn't Ready' offers a more hard hitting and high tempo sound with punishing drum work. Next to serve up this new EP, Eluize has also recently recently launched a mentoring programme focusing on supporting womxn, non-binary and trans people in production, performance and label management.

Echo Chamber (5:33)
Kanisza (6:22)
Thinker (4:56)
Sad On The 16th (5:28)
Review: Craigie Knowes are back at it for 2024 with a return appearance from Fader Cap. After a rapid run of first releases in 2022, we've been waiting for a follow-up from the chap and he more than delivers. As the EP title might suggest, he's exploring echo chamber processing on his tracks, but the delay and reverb is teased with precision amidst the shimmering, psy trance tinted tech house vibe he so ably builds on these incredibly accomplished club cuts. 'Kanisza' is an especially hypnotic, subtly broken workout for a more delicate kind of dancefloor, while 'Thinker' offers up punchy arps and flecks of acid for the more up-for-it crowd.

Progressive House
Energy Obsession
Totally Wild
Motomami's Chant
Sonar Quartz
Review: Guy Contact's Energy Obsession EP presents four exemplary tracks of new progressive house music on the esteemed Craigie Knowes Records. On Side-1, the title track 'Energy Obsession begins things with a deep bassline and progressive house groove, delving into darker and more ominous territory while maintaining its hypnotic allure. 'Totally Wild' follows with its strong techy vibe, bordering on techno territory and delivering a relentless dancefloor workout with its fast-paced rhythms. On Side-2,' Motomami's Chant' offers a melodic chugging bassline reminiscent of late 90s vibes, evoking nostalgia while pushing the genre forward with its modern production. Closing proceedings is 'Sonar Quartz' which further explores the depths of progressive house, weaving intricate melodies and pulsating rhythms.

Waverider (6:37)
Innervision (6:09)
Blunderbuss (6:16)
Under The Influence (6:01)
Review: Man of many aliases Ron Wells is undoubtedly an under-appreciated British dance music hero - a producer who delivered a string of innovative jungle-techno releases in the early 90s and has been serving up killer cuts in a variety of styles ever since. Here he dons the Jack Smooth alias (a moniker he debuted way back in 1991) for a collaborative four-tracker alongside fellow storied veteran Anthony Wilson AKA Chicago Loop. They begin in sensational fashion via the bleep-sporting analogue acid house of 'Waverider', before opting for warehouse-ready early UK techno sounds on the gnarled and nasty 'Innervision'. 'Blunderbuss' adds warped hardcore rave sounds to a sweat-soaked jackin' house beat, while 'Under The Influence' sounds like a long lost, loved-up tech-house blueprint from 1994. Stellar stuff all told.

Perception Check
Review: UK producer and DJ Lisene has been a regular fixture on the 'cheeky' side of the nation's dance music circles. Craigie Knowes provides ample patronage and license for him to release his latest EP here, 'Square One'. Inspired by Lisene's revisiting of his workflow and implementing a new approach to production, choice tracks from 'Deja Voodoo' to 'Perception Check' segue through both light and dark moods, carefully nodding to broken beat, garage, and acid trance as ever - but with an extra-slick, cetaceous vibe.

Tube Star (6:07)
Unharmonic (6:03)
Lazan Beat (Ultra Bass mix) (7:06)
Wires Around My Neck (5:27)
Review: House-master, Matthias, is the latest producer to debut on the iconic Scottish Minimal/Tech house imprint, Craigie Knowes. Delivering a class EP injected with originality and outright funk, this will be a no-brainer purchase for a long list of DJs and home listeners. On the A side, 'Tube Star' arrives with a throbbing bassline, honey-sweet synths and glinting percussion. For the A2, growling electric guitar melodies meet darkened synthlines and bludgeoning kicks to produce a powerful dancefloor-ready track. On the B-side, we have Ultra Bass on remix duties, offering a bass-stroke-acid-stroke-garage take on Matthais' signature sound - this is undoubtedly a peak time track for those out-of-control moments. Closing things up, 'Wires Around My Neck' slows to a patient pace - a duet of circling synth melodies and chugging drums give this track a delectably wonky, spaced-out vibe. A wonderfully varied release that is surely set to be a favourite for this year's circuit of festivals.

Cafe Crazy (5:45)
Cafe Crazy (D Tiff Brain Cafe Refoam) (5:58)
Keep Going (5:26)
Hang Out (6:13)
Review: Pascale Project debuts on Craigie Knowes with her 'Good People Only' EP, a melodramatic exercise in bubblegum kitsch, dramatized synth-organ hums and eerily quantized vocal recordings. The title, of course, takes its namesake from lead track 'Cafe Crazy' - a dance-pop hybrid soaked in a simple viscous formula: good vibes and electronic fun. The three originals making up its bulk come laced with nostalgic lyrics recalling hyperpop, but also carry retroisms of noughties dance-pop and trance, 'Hang Out' being the post-ironic jubilant highlight. The lyrics are, of course, written and performed by Pascale Project, and what's more, 'Cafe Crazy' comes remixed and refoamed by D. Tiffany with additional vox by NAP (yes, your eyes do not deceive you - a remix on Craigie Knowes! What?!)

Mesomorph (6:42)
Rhizome (7:06)
Hypha Dose (7:49)
Desert Power (6:50)
Review: The superb Craigie Knowles label is often a place to check out some mad fresh electro but for this one, it welcomes Primitive Needs who head off down a progressive techno trip that will remind you of the 90s even if you didn't experience them the first time around. On opener 'Mesomorph' the drum programming is fresh and slick and the synths are searching, as they spray about the mix with a hint of old-school video game charm. 'Rhizome' rides on high-speed tech drums that are coloured by the warped lines and stabs that peel off them constantly. There is a kinetic bounce to 'Hypha Dose' that will make any floor step things up a notch and 'Desert Power' closes with real soulful urgency and hints of trance magic.
