Es Pion EP (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: CNTR 003. Rel: 23 Feb 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Es Pion (12:34)
  2. Bass Villain (8:52)
  3. The Hideout (6:07)
Review: Young Romanian label with big potential presents us with more homegrown talent in the form of The Future Future Sound. Not much is known of this producer but they've got some skills in the studio, we do know that. Starting off with "Es Pion" this is the kind of wacky, tripped out deepness that's undoubtedly influenced by modern homegrown greats such as Vid or Barac as it is Baby Ford or Thomas Melchior. Very paranoid and hypnotic stuff for the after-hours in all its nearly 13 minute glory. On the flip is "Bass Villain", don't worry it's not a dubstep thing, on the contrary; this is more on the avant-garde reductionist tip; think Ricardo Villalobos or Petre Inspirescu. Very abstract and very deep indeed. Finally "The Hideout" throws us a bit of a curveball on this drugged out, experimental hip hop jam, it's interesting!

Simfru EP (12")
Cat: CNTR 002. Rel: 10 Oct 14
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Simfru
  2. Sirius
Review: Emerging from the lively Romanian broken minimal scene, Emi Nescu first came to light on a Raresh Fabric mix, and now enjoys the run of this release on Contur with space to unfurl a classic line in fractious rhythms playing out stripped down hypnotic mantras. "Simfru" takes hold on the A side with a complex arrangement of drums that piston pump their way around fragile swells of string while a whole lot more subtlety works away in between. "Sinius" on the flipside is a more hazy affair that gets into a steadier groove and lets wraiths of synth and samples flirt around the groove with an ever undulating intensity.

Trezie EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CNTR 001. Rel: 22 Nov 13
Minimal/Tech House
  1. SW
  2. Constanta
Review: Previously discovered moonlighting on Rhadoo's Fabric mix, Visullucid continues the Romanian charge of unbeatable minimal house music with his first solo release for the newly minted Contur imprint. If you dig that Eastern European sound then there's plenty to delve into here, as micro-fibres of rhythm and found sound furl around silken melodic threads with the measured delivery that has come to define the output of a nation. "SW" has a shuffle in its groove that gives it a tribal quality, although the nagging arpeggio and gaseous noises in the mix put paid to any such earthly reference points as the track heads into the stratosphere. "Constanta" is a more abstract affair, focusing on percussive sources whittled down to thin slithers that interlock in a cyclical configuration that undoubtedly nods to the track title.
